What makes Jody Watley a UNIQUE Diva is because we WATCHED her grow from dancing on Soul Train as a young girl and later a young woman, perform in Shalamar, and EXPLODE as a solo artist. She has always had great songs NO FILLERS in sight. Watley is a Living Legend. @jodywatley

@Ramon Hart Yaaaassss, hunty! Jody was a BAD B1TCH! She didn't really get the credit she deserved. She was no Aretha or Patti vocally, but her music and production quality was ON POINT for a Pop Artist. She drew a lot of comparisons to Janet at the time, with that wet n wavy weave, but i actually think Jody was a better NATURAL dancer and mover than Janet. Janet was bad, but all of stuff had to be elaborately choreographed. Jody could be in a video or on stage movin all by herself.

6/6/2020 Rest easy, Tyrone “The Bone” Proctor. A dance/choreography legend and former Soul Train dancer. Jody and Tyrone have been good friends for decades. Most often on Soul Train, when you saw Jody & Jeffrey (Daniel), you also saw Tyrone and his regular partner, Sharon Hill (Woods) not far away. Jody featured Tyrone in this video where they beautifully demonstrated the marriage of locking and waacking throughout their choreography.❤️💫✨ For those who think they are voguing: this style of dance is called waacking. Waack dancing has been going on at least since the early 1970s. If you go back and watch those 70s clips of Soul Train, especially during the mid-late 70s, you will see Tyrone, Sharon, Jeffrey, and Jody used to mix waack dancing in with several other moves. Also, just want to mention that Tyrone once stated that Waack was a west coast dance mostly performed to Disco/R&B type of music; whereas Vogue was an east coast dance mostly performed to House music.

....Miss Watley....I must make a confession RIGHT here....THIS song, AND, this Video...wrecked my NERVES, my well BEING, my financial STATUS, my sexuality, my teeth....ALL of IT!! ..ha-HAA!! (cont.) ....I was already a HUGE Jody fan, even BEFORE 'Looking For...', BUT, when the single dropped, May '87, (I already had the debut album), the stark B&W picture sleeve photo made me say, 'I can't wait for the video...' ..oh, NO....I saw it on Ralph McDaniel's 'Video Music Box' : The waaacking. the Hair. the LOCALE. the petticoat. the BOOTS. the Earrings.the 'back in color' ending. the STAIRCASE. the Male partner, matching her EVERY move. the 12" Remix. the POSES. and most of all, the EXTENDED version VIDEO; remember kids, NO ONE was doing THIS, at the time; Jody was SO forward thinking, in terms of product for her Club / Dance fans, and, her stylized image; Janet Jackson had 'The Pleasure Principle' video, around the SAME TIME, and these here Two girls, were THE ONES. they were..THE. ONES!!! ...after Jody's Video, EVERYBODY was shooting videos in Paris (even Biz Markie!) ..and even though Madonna was asking, 'Who's That Girl?' at the time, Jody was the one making those MOVES. Time has revealed who the REAL INNOVATOR was, and, I couldn't be more pleased that Jody FINALLY gets acknowledgement for the choices she made with her career, & her STYLE; Sometimes, it's best to be RESPECTED, than REVERED.....and, YES girl, you're STILL a THRILL.....

Several visual elements of this underrated and underappreciated 1987 video preceded two iconic videos of the time: 1. It featured voguing before Madonna's "Vogue" (1990). 2. One of the best bass lines I have heard in a song for a long time. Especially, in the chorus. Playing the same note, making the most of pure rhythm, is hard to do correctly (0:59). When it is done correctly, it can be just absolute perfection. To me, whoever composed this song deserves all the Grammies that were given to Billie Eilish and Finnieas, because it's clear who has more compositional skill.

I once heard a well known Music engineer from ATL....A.S.. (who is a bass player) say that Andre Cymone is one of the best bass players ever..... Some say Prince assisted behind the scene with Jody's album....Prince and Cymone style is so much in tune with the other because they came up from grade school together. Andre was always the band leader in school..Prince was the 1st to get signed to the big league so we saw cymone as the bass player...Prince knew andre was much more than that...Andre had to do his own thing as well.

That beat breakdown from 3:51 to 4:07 had me pressing rewind over and over again on my CD player this past week.

How come I still remember the dance moves in 2019?? I Love Jody W 💖

Now that is style, class, righteous funk, mighty fine dance moves and great stage presence. This can't compete with the crap coming out of music studios today. Music doesn't have edge anymore, profanity, lame beats and repetitive words is all we get. Its all about the Benjamin's and not about the passion anymore. The music industry today is about who can make the latest beat stand popular for the next two weeks. 80s live forever!!! Jody wately is amazing.

Whenever I'm done with a situation and I'm feeling shady, I say, "I'm going home now. Where are my keys?" Thank you, Jody. Thank you, Tyrone "The Bone" Proctor. It's been a long time, but it's STILL A THRILL! RIP TY!

I wish someone would upscale this video so I can truly appreciate the Opera de Paris. Extraordinary architecture.
