It is cold but now that I think back, I believe the GM stated that one of the stars wanted him traded. Young Z-Bo was kinda immature in the locker room and got into too much trouble. It wasn't until his Memphis days that he wised up. Plus, Aldridge was taking his position and did prove to be a better two way player down the line. Also, the team just drafted Oden and Oden was a big fan of Z-Bo but team didn't want him to get swayed by the sketchy things Z-Bo was into (drugs, alcohol, block parties, hookers, Gangster Disciples connections). Otherwise, the team isn't allowed to officially say much nor do they want leaks to get out. Inexperienced and unprofessional GM type move, yes....maybe the GM learned their lesson after, I dunno.

Funny PG brings this up when he didn’t get traded at all star break like he makes it sound. Wasn’t traded until he told the team he wouldn’t resign the following summer

He said that his agent told him that the Pacers were TRYING to ship him out during the all-star break, not that they succeeded in shipping him out. So, he told the team that he wouldn't resign the following summer only after the team tried to ship him out

exactly. PG was trying to get the Pacers to trade for AD of course PG is not known for his intelligence, and didn't realize that New Orleans wouldn't trade their 23 year old budding MVP candidate for rookie Myles Turner, Lavoy Allen and some future picks. The Pacers only had one asset the Pelicans were interested it, and the Pacers tried to see if they could land AD buy TRADING AWAY PG. of course, Pelicans knew he was worth more (see the trade where they got ingram, ball, hart, hunter and more 1sts not yet used) and didn't give up AD for PG, but can you blame KP for trying? PG trying to get AD to join him on the Pacers is one of the most asinine stories floating out there. especially when you realize the Pacers were actually trying to give up PG to get AD

Exactly, go see how many Pacers fans who lived that situation in realtime believe any of this revisionist history we're hearing now. Reggie Miller played his entire career as a Pacer. There's no way they were just willy-nilly gonna trade arguably the 2nd best player in franchise history unless he put it out there that he was gonna leave.

Come on P…. Pacersnation still wants you back, but don’t act like the whole fan base wasn’t hearing that you wanted to go to LA that whole season. GMs probably lie to y’all because if the deal falls through, they don’t wanna have to mend a broken relationship. If KP would’ve told you he was trading you, and it didn’t happen…. You would’ve felt unwanted by the organization, and then either became a locker room problem or you would’ve tried to force your way out

I wouldn't mind PG24 coming back. i think even now he can look back and admit, PG13 was a clown and that was the absolute low point of his entire career. horrible teammate, non existent leadership, enormous off court distraction

Look at how well that worked out. Every team PG leaves got better. Pacers & OKC sure look a lot better than the Clippers right now.

He's a very good GM. Drafted Roy and Aldridge in same draft, put Oladipo and Sabonis together, acquired Haliburton and Siakam for good deals. Definitely has a used cars salesman vibe though lol.

@@islander5858 we are still reaping the benefits of trading PG. we got sabonis and oladipo back. sabonis became Haliburton. oladipo, who became caris levert who became a first round pick which became the selection of andrew nembhard. i'd take hali + nemby over PG every time.

@@islander5858 25yr old Oladipo led the league in steals and made All NBA, All Defense and AllStar his first season following the trade. He made All Star before a career ending injury halfway through the next season. 21 year old Sabonis has made 2 All NBA, 3 All Star games and won 2 rebounding crowns since the trade…. You could argue those players are no longer with the Pacers, but Sabonis netted 20yr old All NBA All Star Assist crown Haliburton, and Oladipo was moved for space to acquire Siakam (as well as a pick that became 22yr old Sheppard) so the hits just keep coming

It never surprises me that Daryl Morey's teams haven't won a championship, nor that Bob Meyer's teams won 4. A GM you can never trust what they say vs a GM that's almost honest to a fault. There's obviously a lot of extenuating circumstances, and grimey GM's do win chips, but its the kind of thing that trickles down. But players should always expect a GM to make a decision that's in the best interest of the franchise.

GMs not being truthful with players definitely has a ton to do with them not wanting the news to leak and for them to lose leverage. It’s not all about them not wanting to have difficult conversations with players. That’s maybe a small part of it, but only a small part.

The difference is its a player moving him putting his kids in different schools finding a different house/ neighborhood and whether he would want to be there in the first place they get traded or sign elsewhere the gms just stay in their office moving players like their objects its a respect thing they are the ones doing the hard work they get that respect over the gms
