I'll say this pretty much Cillian Muphy performance in Oppenheimer was chilling alone

He was great and much deserving, but I might be happier if Giamatti were to win. Both would be fine for me though.

i got no horse in this race. i didnt like oppenheimer but would be fine with him winning. would make sense. but giamatti would be great. going to see american fiction next tuesday for $6 AMC tuesday. been trying to last few weeks but things kept getting in way. jeffrey wright would be cool and a shock.

Yes, I’m starting to really like Giamatti’s chances and this is his second nomination and Murphy’s first. I do think that Murphy gave the better performance, but Giamatti deserves it more and has earned it with a better body of work.

American Fiction was good and I like Jeffrey Wright’s acting in general, even his Felix Leiter in the Daniel Craig Bond films.

I hope Giamatti wins. They were both great this year in great movies. Oppenheimer I’m probably going to win A LOT of awards this year. That’s why I’m rooting for Giamatti.

I think so too. It would be a great story if Giamatti were to win I would be as happy as Brendan Fraser winning last year. I didn’t realize that Giamatti had one Oscar nomination for Cinderella Man and didn’t get one for Sideways. This is Murphy’s first nomination.

Cillian poured his heart out for it, but i kept hearing his irish lilt in almost every scene. The geandeur of nokand films fall a little flat for me. The music in his films is always better than the scene which its played over, if that makes sense.

Yes, I know what you mean on both points. I think that The Dark Knight worked for me though.

"Oppenheimer" is excellent but, for me, it is much more about the score and the filmmaking. "The Holdovers" is ALL about the dialogue and the performances. Between the two of them, it should be Giamatti.
@excelsiormoviereviews6 ай бұрын
I’m with you regarding Giamatti, but I liked the story and performances in Oppenheimer. I was swept into the story of Oppenheimer and the world event that his invention had an effect on.
@robertr7986 ай бұрын
@@excelsiormoviereviews I should clarify, the performances in "Oppenheimer" were all solid, but the storytelling was so (purposefully) fractured and chaotic. It is a great story, and a great film. "The Holdovers" is a different kind of movie, one that is more designed to showcases its actors. I hope that makes sense.

@@robertr798 yes, the editing was aggressive. I just watched his debut (Following) on Friday night and the editing was also cut aggressively and it’s confusing the first time you watch it.

I lean towards Paul just because I like the movie better and I liked Oppenheimer but I don't think it's a masterpiece like some people. I think Murphy will win and I get it. Nobody will look back at it and think the Oscars blew it with giving him an Oscar. This isn't like giving Sandra Bullock for a pretty lame performance.
