Paul McCartney - Blackbird
Live Glastonbury Music Festival 2004
Lyrics:
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
all your life
you were only waiting for this moment to be free
Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,oh
You were only waiting for this moment to arise, oh
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Many people don’t know what this song is actually about. He wrote it in dedication to black women in the civil right era. Its such a beautiful and respectful song. He’s truly a national treasure

I thought the same thing. It's not easy, I mean their applause is wonderful, but you're thinking, um, please let me keep my guitar going. :) I don't know if they have mics that help them tune out to the crowd somewhat to reflect their own singing, I think it's something like this. That, and of course, ages of practice. :)

Yeah, about the clapping - in a huge venue like this the speed of sound makes it sound like the audience is clapping out of step - but to their ears they are perfectly in sync with the (delayed) sound....add that same delay from the clapping audience to the on-stage mic and you have quite a difference.

I sang this song to my father on his death bed. That was 9 years ago. He started to Heath very hard and I guess they call that the death rattle. As soon as I started singing he stopped the rattle. He wasn’t talking but was still with me. It gave him comfort and allowed my brother and mom to make it to the hospital. It was the four of us in there like it had always been. He gently passed a few minutes after My mom and brother arrived. It was very peaceful. I didn’t even cry until it set in that he had just passed. He was a great man and was my best friend. Still miss him every day. But I know he’s out there flying free.

The world is rarely graced with someone of such pure genius. I love the simplicity of this song, just a guitar and vocals. No fancy autotune or electronic instruments, just a man, his guitar, and his talent. Truly a work of greatness. This man is so special that the entire Earth will shed a tear upon his passing. There is no one like him. Rock On Forever Paul.

I am French speaking I do not understand English much, however I like the music of the beatles and when I was a teenager when I learned to play the guitar it was on the music of the beatles ...my English was very bad but somewhere I could feel the vibrations in my heart thanks to their music .... Despite his age, Paul is still a music fan he could sit on his millions and enjoy it but his pleasure in living is to share his music with us and make it known to future generations

this video taught me how to play this song! I like how it zoomed in on his hands a lot, it helped me pick it up. if he ever watched KZfaq videos of himself, particularly this one, he should know he inspired another lefty to start playing the guitar. it's such a beautiful song that I had to learn it. pulled a hendrix on my mom's old guitar and decided to give it a whirl

He has inspired me to get my guitar out too. I'll never play before huge audiences like he does. . . But, if you watch his interviews, he consistently says that he would still play - even if no one came to his concerts anymore. He just LOVES music. That's a great motive, I gotta admit. That's a really pure motive, actually. It inspired me, anyway.

The Beatles... 4 young men, 1 had timing unsurpassed, 1 had a great guitar playing coming into his own right towards the last couple of years. 1 was a genius and could make the guitar hum and buzz writing many classics. 1 was a god playing many instruments, writing many classics and still going today. Together they were a force of nature. Okay McCartmey did some duds outside of the Beatles but boy was he talented and when he goes the world should weep

What's so amazing that so many people go to his concerts! It's Paul McCartney for heaven's sake! His concerts are sold out and people pay a pretty penny for a ticket! He is the number one musician in the world and makes the most money! And the amount is outrageous! Michael Jackson is number two on the list. Not a surprise there! I love those Beatles!

I have been learning this song recently at age 67 as part of a 'bucket list'. As a life long devotee of the so-called "popular song", I don't think I can think of a more inspired Beatles' song .... so simple a thought ... and yet so profound and poetic (if Wordsworth could sing, he might have come up with such an idea!). Above all - a rarity in pop music - a song that's not "all about me" ... who knew?
