The man stands in front of 50,000 (or more?) people - in a simple tee shirt, strumming a simple guitar, singing all by himself to a song he wrote 40 years ago, and everyone is entranced and near tears at the greatness of the man.

Years ago in an interview Paul McCartney argued that the lasting influence of the Beatles was positive because the message was love. At the time, when I thought myself very cool and superior, I scoffed at what sounded to me sentimental and kitchy, but getting older and following the cruelty and cynicism of poltiicans and religious fantatics, then listening to this much loved song again and watching the reactions of the audience here, I am coming to the conclusion that he was right.

Love you forever and forever, Love you with all my heart; Love you whenever we're together, Love you when we're apart. There was a couple that had a big wedding when I was a kid, but it wasn't a legal marriage, out of solidarity to same-sex couples. Years later, after same-sex marriage was legalized in our state, they had a small wedding in our backyard where they made it legal. I was asked to be one of the witnesses, and to learn and perform this song. Also, instead of being asked "Do you..." and responding by saying "I do," they were asked "Will you..." and they responded by saying "I will." Also, when I was a baby, my mom would sometimes sing this as a lullaby.
