This is one of McCartney's masterful "Pop Symphonies," combining different pieces into a musical collage. It became Paul's first solo number one in the US. Also notice how many different voices Paul uses throughout this album, it's an amazing vocal performance. Thanks for all your reactions.

This is my favourite Macca album. I have been listening to it since 71 and can't think of it as a series of separate tracks. It's like listening to a single piece, with different movements, just like any other classical composition.

Influence... well, the opening section with that slowly swelling and enveloping bath of orchestral sound like a dream always makes me think of 10CC and I'm Not In Love. Incidentally, Denny Seiwell said they practiceed unti,they got it right then recorded this whole backing track live in one take, it wasn't stitched together.

I think Ram is the most Beatlesque of all the solo albums, which is typified I think with this song.

I remember my mother went out and bought the 45 when it came out because when it played in the radio, us kids always loved the last catchy part about "Live a little, be a gypsy, get around, get your feet up off the ground...". And also the part about "The butter wouldn't melt so I put it in the pie". Lol. Don't know why. We were just kids so we would just got a kick out of those odd little lines of a song. I kept that record for decades then finally sold it. It was an original Apple release, The B side was "Too Many People" The A side was played almost to death, lol. The B side was in decent shape though. I didn't start playing it often until I got a lttle older. It's one of McCartney's reply songs to Lennon during their musical post Beatles feuding.

this is like the ultimate feel good, novelty song. it could be part 2 to "yellow submarine." this album has it all. a mix of genres and adventures. a lot like the "white album." not near as good as the "white album." its the best r&r album ever produced. but a wonderful minor version of it. a remarkable achievement in its own right.
