Lyrics:
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

The way he sang it this time is different and it just gets better as it ages... he sang it with so much sorrow... regrets of past mistakes... sadness of the enough time that he hasn't spent with the ppl he loved... he sang it with all the beautiful memories from the past... he sang with a great hope for a better future... but mostly he sang it to heal his own soul before entertaining any of the audience... this is how legend artists performs.. this song is eternal gold.. respect ❤

We were all psyched to see a concert of Johnnie Rivers at the University of Florida but then we hear Johnnie couldn’t come. We had to see a replacement group that none of us had ever heard of with a weird name. Simon and Garfunkel. They opened their mouths on the first song and we all wondered Johnnie who? I’m 78 now and have seen so many wonderful concerts in all kinds of venues but I will never forget this one.

Oswaldo Lafee so ur willing to say that Paul Simon is a better song writer than Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Billie Joel, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Nicks/Lindsey Buckingham, Neil Diamond, Michael Jackson, Brian Wilson and Carol King? I’m a huge fan of Paul Simon but to put him at the front of the line in front of all of these people would be an insult. I’m sure a few of these, Paul Simon would say he wasn’t better than.

@123456pfloyd

Good point. But I honestly despise when crowds sings a song. I get that it's hard not to sing along, and every once and a while it's enhances the performance, but it's actually one the dumbest (using cruel language for effect) things ever. Why in god's name are you paying to see an artist but not actually listen to him. Why would you shout and jam-out to the sound of silence. I'd rather hear a pin drop than a bunch hoodlems sing along. Take the music in! (again, speaking bluntly for effect, and willing to discuss further, but I feel strongly about this)

@Garnet Tanner - I would too!! And I do sing, at least from time to time at a show. But I cannot stand when the entire audience sings the song word for word. At a certain point, you're not listening to the artist. Yea I understand that you could say, "by singing the song, we are apart of the music," but I didn't work effortlessly for years and years to create the song (if I did, I'd be on stage). I attend the show to listen to experience the art, not create it. The first time I became very annoyed was at a Roger Waters concert in Quebec: 20,000 people shouting the lyrics; during the intermission, 2 people from the city noted that many people don't even understand the lyrics (being French). We couldn't hear the artist over the audience! Everyone wants to grab the hanging fruit, but you must do so at the right time.

@@123456pfloyd You're absolutely right. Also, an effect that's really annoying is when a crowd sings, each one person probably has a terrible voice, but collectively, you get it right. Also, doesn't it kind of annoy you to hear the choir sing it properly and Paul Simon sing it with way too many changes to the song?
