Bit about presidential eligibility is comedy gold. If you like Paula's standup you may also like Janeane Garofalo's 1995 special as they started in Boston at the same time. Everybody knows about her looking like Jenner.

@@jrbanks2983 Actually, being proficient in the English language IS fun. It’s a matter of taking pride in how you present yourself to the world…choosing to be literate or mentally illiterate. It’s up to each kid and their parents on how well they apply themselves in school. Blaming teachers is a cheap shot when We all know how overcrowded classrooms are, too many kids, too few teachers, and budgets so impoverished that teachers (who do NOT make enough money) have to shell out what little cash they have, because schools aren’t provided large enough budgets to get the job done.

I've high regard for all teachers; I used to be one, retired now. (Back when we would diagram sentences, showing noun, verb, object etc) I literally didn't see this in textbooks or assignments since about 2005. It's not the teachers fault, certainly not fully. (And some teachers, now and past, IMO, should be textbook writers. IMO teachers should NOT be told by the state or feds "You WILL use these text books etc." (Soap box of mine.) I was/am more upset w educational trends, from top gvnmt down... treating teachers & schools w random abandon. I home schooled my 2 boys grades 1-6 cuz I wanted to pour into them self-motivation, critical thinking, and a solid foundation in writing (etc), math, physics, health, real history, some Latin, basics in art & music etc etc. They worked hard. One is a software engineer & one has a BS in math, w honors. (Credit to all 3 - parents, teachers & the boys.) Sorry my earlier comment offended or miffed you. That sentiment that upset you wasn't at all my angle. I am praying for the day the gvnmt does NOT hold ANY sway in the education of our children. Paula shows up on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me wearing a Pilgram's outfit. When asked why she was wearing it she replied 'I read this article or book on how to declutter your life and it said 'if you haven't worn a piece of clothing for over a year, throw it out.' Take from there. Her logic is impeccable and how she winds it into her comedy is true artistry.

"I have terrible short-term memory loss, which I like to think of as presidential eligibility". I was just watching this after watching a 1989 show she did, and she told the same joke, and it was still as funny in this set as it was then. I think that speaks to her ability to pick out what is timelessly, universally funny while still keeping the context interesting and fresh every time. I love Paula also because she never resorts to punching down, is so intellectual while radiating relatability, and always artful in calling out the idiocy that goes on in the human race. I feel like she leaves an audience more intelligent than she found them, but with an inevitable mood boost. Truly one of a kind.
