Building and buying them a house is no guaranteed for success. After your demise, they start taking loans out using the property as collateral either to Banks or local loansharks. Those homes are easily lost.🥴🥴 These girls survived before you they will survive after you.

I'm not an expat but I always watch all your videos. Thank you Paul for your kindness, care, and showing your positive views about my fellow Filipinos. You're doing the right thing Paul. We have a saying in tagalog "kung anong itinanim mo, sya ring aanihin mo". It means if you did good deeds, people will do the same to you. And indeed, you are doing good deeds for Mae and your co-expats there so I am sure, you'll be blessed more. Keep it up Paul. Salamat.

Juells was a Great man as he Loved his family and left them with lots of friends and support. I also hope Monty finds a way to get his stents for his heart so he and Aragel and their wonderful daughter can continue living a nice life in the small house he built on her families property. Blessed to have met him and know him and some of the others. I am a newbie after visiting several times moving in July to Duma 3/4 of the year as i deal with business and properties in USA so instead of traveling there and living in uS in one month i will live there and travel to us a complete flip and much better life awaits me i pray and hope for. Health insurance is not something i will take for granted as what happened to Juells is perfect example as he thought because he was still young all was good. Well life is unpredictable and must look at ALL scenarios as you never know what can happen.

I disagree. My wife is well-educated, but the Philippines was unable to provide her with the opportunities her education should ordinarily allow her. We met overseas. I am rich, having made my money in HK. We now live in the Philippines with our family. We are wealthy. We are around the same age. We have our own business, owning a number of residential and commercial properties and making a decent income, with cash in the bank. We have no debt. I am actually one of the 'best and the brightest' expats -. I am highly educated, to doctorate level, our kids are at school/university, and they have a guaranteed income even after we are gone. If I died tomorrow, my missus would be sorted (maybe I should check out the hit-man listings in the small ads).

Thank you, Paul. We all can learn something from this video. I don't live in PHILIPPINES .I am very good at keeping low profile. I am good at saving money. I don't wear expensive watches or jewelry. I wear clothing and shoes with no brand name on them. I look poor.🤣🤣😂😂 I have seen young people driving different cars and trying to show off their rental cars. A lot of young people try to look rich until they maxed out their credit's cards. Why do some people want to look successful to outside world? Why do some people care what other people think of them?

Not really as my Filipina is a wdiow who didn't date after losing her husband and then all of a sudden she met a foreigner But he left her in shame for his ex-girlfriend and thus for 5 years she hid in utter shame. So when she met me I had to go really slow as she was SO afraid it would happen again. Once i felt her family realized i wasn't going Anywhere is when she really opened up and fell in love with me but it was a journey. She didn't share me with her friends till she knew i wasn't leaving. I do my best for my health and future as I know that she will be much older when i pass so she will probably be alone and not date. One Must be Situationally Aware of the other person and the culture. I hope to grow old with her just like her parents. I am grateful to have such a good relationship with a Good family.

My then fiance was barely surviving. Sure, she had a home, but being widowed was making it very hard. I did the fiance visa. She was here in the US after 9 months. She started working one year later. Now, she earns the equivalent of 3 million pesos per year working alongside me in a federal government job. She brought three kids into the marriage. One is in dental school, one is an engineer and the youngest is a nurse

I guess it's a 2 way street. I have heard the horror stories where Filipina GF ruin expats life by bleeding them dry. So to be honest both parties need to help each other. A expat especially on a tight budget needs a Filipina who's conversative with her spending. She also needs to tell her family hands off the expats wallet. If she takes good care of her expats finances I would agree he should help take care of her future. Hopefully if she's a good women another expat will take notice after you're dead and also take good care of her far into the future.

One thing I think you have at least slightly forgot about is that Filipinas are not stupid. I think they are quite aware of what they have gotten themselves into by hooking up with a foreigner with a big age gap. I think they will always have a "Plan B" in the back of their minds as to how they are going to survive when he kicks the bucket. Or at least they SHOULD have, in my opinion. It's a good thing for the foreigner to provide for her future as best he can while he is still around, but the Filipina will still survive regardless of what happens.

Yeah the one thing I'm NOT going to do in the PH is take on debt, but then I'll go out there with a bit of money in the bank and just for myself, 3+ grand/mo. I say for myself because the wife will also get SS when she hits retirement age and she makes good money and about 28 years of working in the US before we leave to the PH. So she'll have a chunk of change once she starts of SS, along with a home paid for and solar panels to run the home and different agricultural functions. I've thought about a vehicle, but the only way I take that on is if production on land (agriculture) warrants a truck. There are other ways of getting things around and even motorcycles are used to do this (think tricycle but has a sidecar that's made for hauling stuff). With first building a home, which also means it's paid for as it's built it means there's no rent payment to live in a good home. I figure that cuts expenses down to about one grand/mo. Once solar is installed that gets us down to about $800/mo. The property already produces a certain amount of food. And this isn't in the city which is both good and bad. It's good because SOME costs are less. It's bad because for everyday items other than food that doesn't have to be brought in, that stuff is more expensive unless you make trips to cities and do a lot of buying. People tend to buy things in small quantities, as in daily rations and that's very expensive.

This really comes down to what is your definition of suffering. Is it suffering to live paycheck to paycheck while having food, shelter, transportation, internet and healthcare -- and then lose it all end when the paycheck stops? Or is it suffering to live off the land without all the conveniences of modernity and never know when nature will flood, drought, plague and destroy. For the vast majority of human existence we lived working to survive every day. There was no welfare state and no one could be a slacker.

You can look rich in the Philippines just by not having to pay the annual hidden homeownership costs, ie in California its now $28,790 per year of overhead even if your house is paid off. Just crazy. And you can ruin anyone's future by having them become dependent on you. Sometimes by helping, you hinder. Give them a fishing pole, not fish.

I agree as Paul has wonderful intentions and motivations in building a house for Babby Mae and making it solar powered so no big electric bills and keeping her expenses low so she can easily maintain the house. As it isn't how much you make but how much you spend and the lifestyle you lead. Empower your Filipina by making sure she has the same life you gave her as it is better to be living humble continuously then all flash and then poof it all is gone soon after you leave. Best is to make her the Best version of herself and make herself self-sufficent as not only did you give her a fishing pole but taught her how to fish successfully in the best spots that won't dry up or run out.

Why did you move to the Philippine in the first place ? Are you looking for a second chance because you failed in North America ? Some kind of redemption ? Or do you simply wanna retire peacefully without suffering the constant economic stress the western world is headed towards to ? Do you feel lonely or doing fine as a bachelor ? Do you have children back home that won't benefit from your inheritance ? Starting a new family in your 50's, 60's, 70's seems reasonable to you ? Whatever your motivation is, own it. Whatever happens, it's on you. Bad things happen to good people who didn't prepare for when the shit hits the fan. Bad luck doesn't discriminate... but stupidity does.

If you love someone you prepare for their future. If you live for today and have no regard for her when you are gone then you really are only loving yourself.

Im very happy for your wife...I know she will be okay when that time comes....the only thing that worries me is the fact that you decided not to have children....i totally understand your reason... but as far as she concerns i don't want her to one day feel alone.Sorry if it looks like im overstepping, that's not my intention

The other part of the equation is teaching her how to hang onto the money, once you're gone. Parents leave thousands to their only child, then 5 years later, she's broke. Leaving money for your wife is terrific, unless she knows not to loan it to her family. Teach her to keep her mouth closed.

An expat can't really leave any money to their spouse because the income stream dies with them. To get SS the Filipina must live in the US with them for a certain amount of years. I guess one could leave them a lump sum of cash but that will run out pretty quickly.

My girl is 56 and I'm 60. She is standing on her own two feet without my interference. I kind of need her more than she needs me.. I consider it win win! Low budget, low expenses.. Who dies first is a mystery.. We are very humble and province. And not married. 😂

In America I had a Porsche Boxer and a BMW 500 all the same time paid off. When I arrived here in the Philippines I bought a $5000 dollar Multi Cab. With the rest of the money I bought 3 houses and 6 parcels of land for my wife of 15 years. Now her son is studying Computer Science once he graduates he can help his mom. I also have invested in Bitcoin as a long term investment. I myself have everything I need. The Philippines can make you not necessarily humble but see the light. 🇺🇸🗽

Another consideration to think about is some of those guys playing rich might not know who the Jones are but they might be trying to meet the expectations of the spouse who thinks they must buy a car. Some of these women don’t think into the future either they live for the moment. Set some of these women up with a sari sari store and stock them up they will take the money and buy a karaoke machine and then realize they don’t have money to restock the store with. That’s where u come back into the picture again. Another thing call me a smart aleck if u will but keeping up with the Jones in some of these barangay’s u might only need $150 a month. Of course we’re not good at bumming money and have that blood connection to get by like they do so we must be well above the Jones to start with. Also remember if a Filipina asks to borrow money she is asking u to give her money. Truly is a land of love and honey, build a house, make babies, help her uncle and run out of dough then start life over as a beach bum. Just ask ole John boy.

Good blog and fully agree. I have been with my filipina wife for 16 years, mostly long distance. To make her finiancially secure it iwas necessary for me to continue working and salaries in Phil are too low to achieve that goal. As I am approaching 70 years, I will probably need to retire shortly on a modest pension, possibly in the Philippines. My wife should get 40% of that for her life which would significantly help. MY strategy has been to build her a diverse capital base, so if she blows one it is not financial ruin. Currently its 5 blocks of land ( two that she could live in) and one more being with about 30% down and repayments. I've put 3 or her family though college todate and they would help her if needed.

Paul, totally agree with you about making sure that if there is a major age gap between you and your better half one should make arrangements to take care of her after you are gone. The other thing that I would suggest is that you teach your better half how to budget and how to say no to all those relatives that will come to her with their hands out asking for a loan. Money changes people's attitude in life.

Used cars are cheap in the Philippines. I just bought a 2016 Toyota Vios (last year of the 4 speed automatic before they went to CVT) with 50k kilometers for 6.5k USD or 385k peso. That's quite cheap, no reason to have a car payment. It gets close to 50 MPG on highway. Should be good for 300,000 kilometers just keep changing the fluids. Taught my Filipina how to drive it and got her license. Cars here don't have all the bells and whistles as the US. Keeps them simple and cheap.

It’s funny that you’re talking about this Paul because one of the other channels over there that I watch was talking about something very similar to this and apparently this gentleman left his Filipina a house a scooter a car and 3 million pesos that were invested for her and three months later, it was all gone after he was gone Because he didn’t teach her how to manage it
