Warping tracks can be frustrating and take a lot of time to learn.
It doesn't need to be this way however, and Warping full tracks in Ableton live is easier than you might think
Paul shows the MYT AAA members his tried and true method of warping full tracks for use as a Reference track for arranging his productions, and for creating DJ mixes in double - quick time in Ableton
This is an excerpt of an MYT AAA Masterclass, where members can ask Paul live and direct to answer any of their production related questions and get in depth technical and creative feedback from both himself, and the rest of the MYT AAA community

LOL I spent a good hour and a half setting warp markers for the drums and guitar stems of Metallica’s “One” to quantize them. Whole time I could’ve tried this method! I just tried it on a Paramore drum track and it synced perfectly. Thank you!

Holy Shit dude, thanks to you , i have solved my problem, i have spent a whole 2 hours in the past on a whole song , warping and doing little knudges here and there and was always frustrated when i would see the end was drifting off tempo a bit, i tried what you suggested in the video and it worked flawlessly

I don’t tend to use the EQ8 for DJing - I use AutoFilter and EQ3 makes life much easier and essentially creates a DJ mixer from Ableton audio effects :)

If you set the warp straight and check the beat is set properly and it isnt, just change the track tempo to something different then back to its tempo it will sit perfectly everytime, the warp is actually bugged and this fixes it but u need to do it on every track it it doesnt sit right

still watching your tutorials mate. thanks. just a question if thats ok,.... after warping, some tracks 'feel' slightly emptier / or less bangy than pre warp. even if i turn up the master gain, and give it a few more dbs, am i doing something ' wrong ', i have tried with complex and complex pro..... im using mostly mp3s to warp.... thanks again

Is there a way to warp 2 parts of a song to two separate tempos ?
@MakeYourTransition
@MakeYourTransition 4 жыл бұрын
You would change the master tempo of the Ableton session to get it to sync to the new tempo. Alternatively you’d use two different clips with different warp settings, but beware the best results would come only if the tempo is either a multiple or divisible by 2, in order to fit the original tempo of the track. Hope that helps

I think this the video im looking for but i cant get it to work on full audio tracks with a variable BPM. Ive spent 6/7 years in Logic and just switch to Abelton so i guess im broken
@MakeYourTransition
@MakeYourTransition 3 жыл бұрын
yes ableton likes consistent BPM's at all times 😂 it does tend to freak out with inconsistent tempos. it'll always want to make the track adhere to the global tempo. The best way forward is to edit the track into the separate sections with different BPMs if possible (might not be with some film music / orchestral stuff where there's dynamic tempo changes over time), or you can program the master tempo to follow the tracks tempo. Live 11 has some new features regarding this where it can 'listen' to incoming audio and adjust automatically, but that's more geared toward live performance. This is one of those supposedly simple things in music production that's actually more complicated that you'd like! hope that helps and gives some insight regardless

What's the best way to export a warped file into a folder !?
@MakeYourTransition
@MakeYourTransition 3 жыл бұрын
you can drag it once warped into the arrangement view (or warp it directly in the arrangement) and then hit File> Export Audio / Video and then you can export using your preferred settings

@MakeYourTransition
@MakeYourTransition 3 жыл бұрын
@@Njdeep yes as Ableton will make any warped tracks adhere to the global tempo - super useful if you want to set things up at the same BPM for a whole set, or slow down a track that's too fast etc :)

Shame this method doesn't work for disco music especially when the songs have trumpets etc. I have to spend ages going through the full track and moving the transients almost every bar but it works a treat if done correctly. Same with accapellas very time consuming(
@nixdahouse

exactly, but in the end it does matter, you get amazing organic feel with stable tempo if you do it correctly. The name of the game is patience, step by step

There’s also a lot more room for manoeuvre than you think. As long as it’s relatively in time, and the section you’re mixing for dj purposes is right to the grid, you can allow the rest of the track to wander a bit. Vinyl rips are also challenging for the very same reason
