Why not? There are stamps, which have way less value than bills do (intrinsically speaking) that have sold for over a MILLION dollars, for ONE STAMP. The "Inverted Jenny" is the name of one of these stamps.

People tend to value things more than they usually are based on sentimental value and delusions of grandeur. Ever watch American Pickers? Hey Danielle whats up. Mike I have this guy who wants to sell his entire garage full of automotive stuff. Hey there I'm mike and this is Ike, Danielle told us you wanted to sell some stuff? a whole day wasted bargaining over some low grade garbage. Some if not most of those guys are hoarders. Some of them are literally having mental break downs to sell one item. Let alone a collection of rusted cars that they will never restore. Also people tend to value things more if they are old. This thing is 100 years old! it has to be worth a million bucks.

Well I hope he didn't pay too much for it. But $500 is what that is worth, at best, maybe $600 on a good day. $300 is a fair pawn shop price; might be able to get more if you can find a private buyer for it. Nowhere near enough to buy a new car. Heck, not enough to buy a running used car.

Probably because nobody is buying them. It doesn’t mean it’s uncommon if no one sells them. They just aren’t worth Jack squat, no one cares to buy one.

@@rexrocker1268 What you say sounds logical, but realistically, Ebay is full of trash that no one buys, but it's still there, ready to be bought if the right person comes along. This is an item that's at least worth a couple of hundred dollars, maybe more now because I'd argue that some people want to buy one with a printing error similar to it, because of this show, and you know, because of the musical, but that's just me.

I've been collecting rare and error coins and paper for quite a few years and I've never heard of the smoking Hamilton or any bill with a error I think that guy should probably get a second opinion the expert didn't seem very numismatic
