I really doubt he would use a $15,000 rare piece of history like that for a salsa bowl when it makes more sense for him to just use a regular bowl like restaurants use. Besides, if you look closely, you can see there is a small hole in the helmet, so any salsa poured into it would leak.

Chet Carson: If anything, the Pawn Shop has to pay tax on it. You pay tax when you buy it..."Supposed to". If charged tax for selling it, the gov't would have to allow you to deduct the tax you paid for an item, when you bought it.

I thought the same thing. Rick comes off kind of slimy sometimes, even though he is doing the exact same thing Chum just did. I think the part that gets people is Rick selling the "I'm taking a huge chance offering you 60% of what this thing is worth" bit. Dude, when you have that level of markup, if if you're off a little bit, you're fine.

These guys really aren't dirt bags or scummy. First of all it's scripted and these people make deals before they get on set and sometimes these aren't real sellers. But, in a real pawn shop they're not going to get an expert over to find out a verified evaluation for free. In a regular pawn down the street from the liquor store they'll offer you $500 for this after you said you wanted $750 and then when you leave they'll call an expert. These guys are pretty good guys.

The other actors, I mean customers, are the same people before and after he summoned his specialist expert. They are even wearing the same clothing. Did the expert come around at a moment's notice? It's so fake like most shows that pretend to be reality. My guess is the entire thing is acted

@@chopsythelamb Essentially these kinds of shows are kind of scripted, but not fully. So seller contacts shop in advanced and producers are notified. The experts are notified by the producers of the show / shop with pictures and occasionally name so they know the topic and can do research on it. They film the evaluation and negotiation. So it's more like you know the topic and have point notes of what's going to happen, but not acted out by professionals. (As explained by Rebecca, one of the rare book dealers / experts)

R6 Mark not really fake. These people send emails before hand so they are ready with an evaluator and camera crew for interesting items. Not fake it’s just hard to film the whole process

Suspicious of the expert confirming the helmet, which as he pointed out is insanely rare to find in this condition from the Anglo Saxon period, by only testing the metal content. I live in England and finds like this are rare, so rare. Unbelievably rare. Something like this should be traced back to the owner to perchanced such a thing. Even 80 years ago this, if real, would have been a big price. And the seller in England would have a paper trail as to where it was found. I mean, this would have come from a warrior. The grave would have remains of a shield and spear etc. So where are the rest? It's too good to be true.

Anglo saxon relics are very rare and priceless. Rick could easily sell it to a collector that is looking for saxon treasure. And they will pay up handsomely for it. I wouldnt be shocked if he gets 20,000 or more for that helmet.

You would be surprised what production teams of tv shows are capable of. Before the show aired they prolly didnt have any guys and just dealt mostly with jewerly, watches gold and silver all that easy stuff. Also that being said the whole thing that they call them buddies they aint their buddies.

Awesome find. I've seen a couple in museums, but they were only PARTS of the helmets because they just fell apart over so much time. That really is a rare piece and I'm sure they'll find a museum or private collector that will pay top dollar for it.

I was going to say. I'm a bit of a history buff and I know there aren't many armor pieces left from the Middle Ages or Renaissance, they just don't last forever, like he said. To find a Dark Ages helmet that may even predate Islam in that kind of condition is virtually unheard of. I mean, think about it. England didn't even exist as we know it today when that helmet was worn.

I never really believed the arguement of: he it will take a long time to sell from them. Simply because of the fact that while you are trying to sell it, they are already kinda making a commercial for it that gets shown on many channels let alone online.

@@naterivers6107 Has there ever been a customer on Pawn Stars where their initial asking price was lower than what the item was said to be worth, yet where they were still willing to go along with their initial asking price instead of insisting it being more simply due to what the expert claimed it was worth? I guess the answer would be no. It would be cool to see at least one customer be willing to accept what their initial asking price was even if the expert or Pawn Stars person tells them it's actually more than what they initially asked for.

@@Steveman27 Actually yes, it's happened a few times. There was this lady that came in with some jewelry. I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was one of those really up there designers that made it. Anyways, she asked $2,000 and Rick told her he hates having to be so honest and then offered her $14,000. It's actual value was $20,000.

in 10 years he would've made more than 10 thousand off other things so it probably wouldnt bother him much. its like buying something early at a high price, and years later it drops $100, you wont feel too bad since it served its purpose for the time you bought/sold it

That expert was super legit. I’ve been drooling over those handheld X-ray spectrometers ever since they came out. The reason why he is legit for having one, is because they cost as much as a new sedan. About 25,000 to be exact.
