Still gives me chills to this very day, in 2021. Been retired from bowling, but can't help myself from watching moments like these. Bob Learn, Jr is a stud and a legend. Forever will this day go down in the annals of bowling history.

I will never forget that day. I was at Petroffs Bowling Centre in Menomonee Falls Wisconin. When Bob threw that 300 game we all went nuts. I spoke to Bob 11 years later at the 2007 Usbc masters asked how nervous he was on that last shot for $100,000 in front of his home crowd. He said he was nervous but not as nervous as he thought he would be. Mr 300 will always be one of my favorite bowlers.

This was the easiest, highest scoring pair in PBA Television history. At the start of the 10th frame of the last game, the announcer (Nelson Burton Jr) explained that they intentionally raised the flat gutters for much better carry. •The 3-game record was 815 (shot in 1975). Bob Learn shot 850 (300-270-280) and his opponents shot 826 (279-268-279)... both Bob and the composite score of his first 3 opponents broke the 3-game record on this telecast. •The 4-game record was 1050, shot on this same pair of lanes a year prior. Bob Learn shot 1129 and his opponents shot 1083. That's how easy the lanes were. •The record average for a telecast was 253, shot on this same pair of lanes a year prior. On this telecast, the lowest game shot was 257, higher than the scoring average record. They shot 2212 for 8 games for a 277 average, obliterating the previous record shot on the same pair of lanes. • They threw 85 strikes (out of 95 shots). Previous record was 70 (same pair a year prior). They only missed the pocket once out of those 95 shots leaving one 8-count (Pedersen). Pedersen was the only bowler that didn't strike out in the 10th. They were 22-for-23 in the 10th frame collectively.

Bob was the MANNNNN that day! All 4 matches went down to the 10th frame. And, Bob kicked total ass. Way to go. I wonder if Bob and his wife are still married 22 years later?

It's sad that bowling isn't on tv much more. I remember bowling was on every weekend on ABC. Now it's all about football, hockey, and baseball

On that particular day Bob Learn Jr cashed in for $130,000. Every game was closely contested and came down to the last frame.

This is not just monumental for what Bob Learn did - 44 out of 48 strikes. But look at what his opponents did - 41out of 48 strikes. As a total of four (4) games, these four (4) players scored only three (3) fewer strikes than did Bob! Amazing. Four games, a total of 96 total possible strikes (4x12) and these guys got 85 out of the 96. They missed 11 in total. Learn missed 4. Petraglia missed 1for 279 Mazza missed 2 for 268 Bohn missed 1 for 279 Randy missed 3 for 257 - who misses only 3 strikes in a game and not only loses, but gets cleaned! The four losing scores - 279, 268, 279, and 257 were the highest 4 game total ever - except for Bob

Back in those days they had the lanes so stacked/framed for high scores anyone with talent could have done well. But, Learn with his bizarre one hand approach makes this some kind of dream.

Bo Burton and Bob Learn, Jr's performances were two of the greatest performances ever. I would Learn's performance slightly ahead of Bo only because he had a perfect game involved.

After watching what Dick Allen just did and still fall short, I’m convinced this record is near untouchable. Just the idea of following up the 300 like that.

Bowled 44 out of 48 possible strikes this day. Came up from 5th place and bowled 4 games to break Ozio's record high 4 game total.

I knew Bob when he used to bowl on Beat The Champ in Buffalo New York with Tommy Baker. I always kid Bob about losing to Cindy Coburn on tv.

Several trip 4s and high hits, carried everything. Then in the 3rd game he pulled a shot 5 boards and it floated right in. Buy a lottery ticket on these days.

This was the first time I saw the telecast where he missed the spare. To this day I have never seen a do over on TV for interference

Imagine this, PBA gets Madison square garden on a Sunday night on national tv for a massive step ladder with Jason Belmonte, Norm Duke, Kyle Troup, Pete Weber, and other legends. Get fans in there like in Portland and show national tv what bowling is really like. And have the grand prize me $1 million or heck even $10 million!

I consider this to be an amazing performance, but I think Burton was better due to the harder lane conditions and the lack of hook that he threw.

A lot of these commenters are being nostalgic idiots and are not accepting/are being biased against modern bowling. If anything, I think bowling has evolved a lot. The only thing that I agree on is the whole thing where they made more money back then.
