🤔 Have you ever wonder how the PBA Pro's Hook The Bowling Ball?
You can now analyze PBA Bowlers Release in slow motion in this video. I wanted to make this video as enjoyable as possible and kept it to RELEASES ONLY!
🤙 Get the exact CAMERA and LENS I use: amzn.to/3ggQUzY
🙏 Please support my channel if you would like me to keep making these videos free for all of you.
This video is perfect to watch the PBA Bowling Pro's releasing the bowling ball from different angles and points of view. I recorded these videos at the PBA World Series of Bowling XI in Las Vegas.
🤔So, how do they hook the bowling ball (properly)?
- Note: "Hook" also refers to "curve," as in How to curve the bowling ball?
✅It's important to notice how they are bending the elbow (or not) at the point of release and how they let go or grab the ball at the bottom of the swing.
It is also important to know that not all bowlers hook the ball the same and some do it "wrong." However, there is no right or wrong way to do it. There are just professional guidelines to help you improve your scores.

Hard to argue against Prather’s, it’s so fundamentally beautiful. But I would definitely love to have BJ’s shot.

Prather. Look how he gets his pointer finger straight down while completely behind the ball! Can’t get any more inside the ball than that. He’s so smooth but can hit 450 with it all day. A stroker with cranker revs!

i have a question , can you throw the bowling ball further in air so it lands few feet ahead in the bowling alley? A friend of mine has been doing this and I don't know if its legal.
@PjMargraff6bowler
@PjMargraff6bowler 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can loft it a few feet further. Some do it to allow the ball not to hook (turn) , as it's in the air there's no chance of it turning . Only starts turning once it's hits the lane.

I think your problem might be that your thumb hole is too tight. Also, make sure your ball fits well so you can relax your hand. I used to have this problem too but I started using tape for fine adjustments and it works like a charm.

I'm a fairly new bowler so I don't completely know the ins and outs of bowling. There's two things I'm noticing and was wondering if someone could answer these questions. A lot of these pros aren't getting behind the ball on their throw. Is this acceptable? I been researching a lot and what I've gathered is that your hand should be on the inside of the ball and then you turn out (behind left and the rotate out right). Another position that I have a question about and it's similar to the last one is some of them are releasing from the top of the ball. If the pros are doing well with these positions, why is teaching the other positions so emphasized. Plus, getting my hand behind the ball is putting a lot of strain on my wrist and forearm. Thanks in advance
@mnguyen313
@mnguyen313 3 жыл бұрын
Pay attention to where their hand is as the ball passes their hips, when they‘re finishing their slide. That’s the essential behind and inside position. Eventually the ball lands on the lane and they get around it to impart rotation. They can’t stay inside and behind the ball forever!
@ThomasBui02721
@ThomasBui02721 3 жыл бұрын
@@mnguyen313 Ahh, makes sense. What about bowler at 2:55. It looks like they stayed on top of the ball the whole time.
@mnguyen313

@@ThomasBui02721 That’s François Lavoie, a low rev player. Doesn’t create a lot of leverage for power using his hand but he uses his legs. Follows through, nice smooth ball roll, insanely accurate.
@AthleticBowling
@AthleticBowling 3 жыл бұрын
So the key about staying behind the ball with the hand before and at the release is that it allows bowlers for a small margin of error. Also, keep in mind that you don't necessarily want to go around the ball all the time because of the lane conditions, pattern, and ball you are using. Let me put it this way, Kris Prather doesn't have a nice release in the sense that he doesn't go around the ball. Instead, he is more back and up in an angle. That's WHY he trips the 4 pin so many times and that's why he can find something good when other pros are struggling in the same lane. The goal is to learn how to create different ball reactions with your hand position before and after the release and master each one of those combinations. You don't see the "same" bowlers winning titles very often because of how good the go around the ball, rather because of how versatile they are with their game. Got it my friend? 💪🏼

Surprised how many tucked their pinky finger. They don't normally announce it when they are teaching others to bowl.
@tobycundell6990
@tobycundell6990 3 жыл бұрын
That's one of the "subtle" adjustments for when you need the ball to get down the lane just a touch longer but maintain the same shape and roll without having to move your feet. Tuck pinky, extend pinky, narrow or widen where the index finger is, adjust which finger the ball rests on to determine how "inside" you are and how much you get up the back or around it.
