Among the small drill presses I have, my favorite is the PBD 40 drill press.
It is a Bosch product and features a wheel-shaped handle.
In addition, it has a special feature that allows us to adjust the basic height and perforation height with one-touch vice and one handle.
I tried to convert this product into a small milling machine. I'm going to reupload the video I uploaded before, edit it more neatly.
Please show a lot of interest. Thank you.

Funny contraption. I'd use that but with fixed spindle router instead of table-top drill. As I guess some decent router spindle will have bearings suitable more for side/radial/horizontal load, while drill should have spindle bearings more suitable for axial/vertical direction load. For some foam, light materials, modeling or preps magic, it might work, but I guess for anything heavier that drill will break sooner or later.

This is a meaningful point. Of course, I also considered it. I made a milling machine prototype with a working depth of about 1mm on softwood. Do not use it to the extent that it puts a strain on the bearing or spindle. Of course, its main use is drilling. I have no intention of making a larger drill press with a cast iron body. That's because there is already a wonderful machine called a milling machine. Actually, I also have a large milling machine. I don't think you really understand the concept of my channel yet. I am primarily a person who does a priori experiments and tests. Please understand this as a new attempt. I hope that my attempt will be a small hint for those who want to create works with a similar concept. I think your expert comments will be of great help. thank you!

schöne idee...leider die falsche Maschine. man kann sehen wie der Fräser aus der Spur kommt, da sie PBD40 einfach zu viel Spiel hat. nice idea...unfortunately the wrong machine. you can see how the milling cutter comes out of track because there is just too much play in the PBD40.

Vielen Dank Thank you for your interest. This is a work I made as a prototype. Do not use it to the extent that it puts too much strain on the machine. Also, I run a tool review channel. It may not be easy for you to see because the reviews are in Korean, but it is a tool review channel focusing on power tools. PBD40 is also a product that I have reviewed in detail, and everyone who has watched my review video understands the specifications and graphs.thank you

The PBD 40 has a little graph on its left side, showing drill speed for different diameters of the drill for steel and aluminum. The speeds for aluminum should ideally be used for wood - at least for hardwood - too. That graph is not just decor.

@@Kynosys_ I am sorry if my comment came across the wrong way, and I apologise if it did. My comment was regarding the way you used the machine during the build. (I am toying with the idea of building something similar for my own PBD 40, I'm just not sure its speed is high enough for a router for wood.) The build in itself was very good, and I liked it, but when you drilled holes, as far as I could tell, you didn't adjust the drilling speed.

while the naysayers are accurate in their points, there’s a saying that i think applies here:”if it’s stupid and it works, it’s not stupid”. you are prototyping and likely not going to use this to do any high precision or heavy duty steel milling. keep up the great work!

Danke This is a meaningful point. Of course I also considered it. I made it using a milling machine prototype with a working depth of about 1mm on softwood. The main use is, of course, drilling. Cool project, but the PBD40 is not suitable for milling. The bearings will quickly wear out, and that chuck is definitely not good, borderline dangerous to use as milling chuck. The least you should do is change it. Here is a video I made about how to change and what to use instead: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pKmhidKSrLyvaJs.html But for milling, I'd change to proper ER type if you can find an adapter. You should also make sure the PBD40 head is not wobbling and 100% locked to prevent unwanted Z movement. All in all, I think a palm router would do a better job if you are milling wood.

The PBD 40 spindle is not suitable for milling. The deep groove bearings are too small, bearing mounts too flimsy, shaft is too thin, shaft stickout too long and chuck too weak. It is strong and rigid only for drill pressing. Because it is a drill press. D-uh.

That's accurate. I actually have a large milling machine. The x-axis and y-axis stage that I have had for a long time looked good with the PBD40, so I suddenly wanted to make one. You will understand that it is not easy to use practically. Please understand that this is a sample made as a prototype. Thank you very much for your professional opinion.
