My new-to-me 2018 Platinum had the beginnings of DW shortly after I started driving it to get familiarized. Had the tires balanced and road force balanced, making a marked difference. The steering was shaky while towing our travel trailer, so much that I pulled the trigger on a new track bar and drag link. The final piece was a dual stabilizer kit from Keldermann, with Fox 2.0 shocks. Now steering is rock solid and I am very comfortable pulling the trailer. I recently replaced all four shocks, OEMs had 45K miles on them, with Bilstein 5100s. Now the truck feels brand new and very pleasing to drive. Thanks for all you do for the PSD community.

Like you, I'm particular in making sure my repairs are the best they can be. Having said that, centering the steering wheel after this repair drove me crazy! The steering feel on my 19 is what I would describe as rubbery so it was difficult to get an accurate center. Made me feel better seeing you chase it a bit as well. Keep on trucking brother!

My new 2016 F350 CCLB came with death wobble from the factory. . Dealt with it for ab 12k. . Then went to PMF Suspension. . Ordered up the caster shims, new track bar ball joint, adjustable track bar (truck now has a level kit.) And dual steering stabilizer kit. Well worth it. Eliminated any and all DW in my truck. PMF saved my truck. Look into them!! Replacing all the front end parts is a must after 10s of thousands of miles with the DW, but it's not the cure. Personally, I'm convinced, the caster from the factory on these trucks is not enough.

Yep. Usually, it's after the steering damper had been replaced by others a couple of times. That is a plus on this type of steering linkage setup, no alignment is needed to level the steering wheel (clear vision) for this repair! I usually take my tools with me on the test drive so I can make the final steering wheel adjustments. Helps that I don't work in the shady part of town.

@@coltlewis5871 Exactly! There is a reason Why the steering damper leaked out. Especially if it has been replaced multiple times, need to go deeper to find the cause. You can usually tell if the damper has been replaced if it is cleaner than the rest of the steering components (indicating new) or if it is a different brand altogether. Thanks for the good points!

Excellent video Arod!!! Top tier! My ‘19 250 experienced death wobble w only 11,000 miles on it. The dealer replaced the pittman arm, drag link, and outer right tie rod. I then replace the steering damper w a Bilstein one. The steering damper has a tapered bolt on one end that I had to beat the hell out of it to get it to come loose. I used a pickle fork to get it but man that was hard to get out! So far so good but still worry that the DW may creep back. Been waiting on this video 👍🏼👍🏼

Haven't had to do anything yet to my '17 F350 CC LB at 46k miles. I have noticed some "play" or my OCD of the steering wheel response. Plan to use a helper to work the wheel, while I observe steering linkage and such. On my fomer '06 F350, I did a complete overhaul of all steering linkage, balljoints, and drive axle u-joints. Quite the job for the driveway, however, steering was like new again at close to 200k miles (had trackbar bushing & balljoint - but never did the update).

After market bushings that add more than stock camber will help emencely. The truth is you can’t replace all those parts without putting it on the rack and do a proper alignment. That said, I have done just what you did on my own vehicles and things were just fine. The thing about the wheel being off center is when the wheel is off to the left, adjust both sides to the left the same amount. Same thing for right, just make small changes and do them the same and you will be close. If you change only one side to make the adjustment your toe will be off. Tire wear will result. This is not for the untrained individual but if you understand the geometry that’s involved it’s definitely doable. Good luck.

Still need to check toe-in. It should be zero to just slightly toed inward. That needs to be done first. Then straighten the wheel which requires equal adjustments on both sides so the toe-in doesn't change. One of the biggest triggers of death wobble is improper toe-in adjustment.

The first mistake... using OEM parts. The OEM parts only lasted 46k miles on that truck. That is absolutely piss poor. I had the same issues on my 2018 with the front end needing to be redone at 48k miles. I replaced the draglink/trackbar and all the rod ends with PMF HD pieces. Pricey, but extremely well made. I also did a One Up Offroad dual steering stabilizer setup and a Fox OEM replacement. Front end has been tight for the last 70k miles and tracks straight as an arrow through the roughest of roads.

Like others I had the beginnings of a death wobble right from new on my 2017 F250. Finally got the full fledged death wobble at around 20000 miles. Dealer wouldn't do anything, and new Ford stabilizers were on back order so I put a NAPA stabilizer in which worked OK but I could still kind of feel the beginnings again. Finally Ford came out with an improved stabilizer (I believe) and I put that on at around 25000 miles and haven't had a problem since, although my truck is still low mileage with maybe 35000 on it now. Pissed off that Ford wouldn't cover any warranty on it.

I have this exact same truck except it’s a single cab. It has a 450lb counter weight under the front bumper and a Minute Man XD slide in unit in the bed. When it does it, it is very severe and no matter how many times I take it to the Ford Dealership, it stops for a couple months then starts back up.. there has to be a modification that can be made that stops this problem for either the life of the truck or at least 50-75k miles.. watching videos of the actual wobble occurring on other videos, the wobble is most pronounced in the hub assembly itself. However if you watch the connecting arm that mounts to the axle, it’s wobbles subtly back and fourth. There needs to be a way to support the front of that near where it mounts to the axle that allows it to go up and down with bumps but won’t allow it to move side to side at all. I have a hunch that would do it but I’ve not seen anyone else take this approach. All the videos I’ve seen on KZfaq do the same thing, they change the loose components on the front and and temporarily solve the issue.

No....my 2020 with 40k on it does not do it. You must REPLACE ALL worn out components. Think if it like ur spinning in a comuputer chair. You keep ur arms & limbs close u spin fine. As soon as u stick an arm or leg out you start wobbling. Same principle. U have a loose track bar or bushing or tb ball joint.....that axle is & will move side to side giving you that problem. Anything loose connected to the steering broski. With ur counter weight, i mean it might be a lil more amplified

It always goes to the same Ford dealer who has great reviews and my company pays for the services it needs so Ive told them every time that if it needs fixed, fix it.. When I got the truck it had 120k miles and the first time I ever experienced the death wobble was around 160, it’s got 215 now. I do put a lot of miles on it but four months ago when I picked it up they completely repaired the front end and aligned it. I never had the problem til I had it and now it won’t go away.

Had the death wobble on my 08 f350. The track bar was shot. New track bar fixed it. Now it's back so since I can move the drag link pretty easily I'm guessing that's now the issue. 182k 9n the odometer it just makes since the front end is tired.

I’ve just replaced the lower tie rod ends, the drag link and upper tie rod, the track bar and track bar ball joint on my 2011 f250. The steering is much tighter now and was much less prone to wobble but I still got death wobble after hitting a bump in the road while test driving after the repair. It’s getting an alignment tomorrow. Could it have been caused by being out of alignment? Or is there something else I need to look into. It has a 2” leveling kit but I’ve been told I won’t need caster shims for a 2” level. Will putting a dual steering stabilizer help. Any help is very appreciated I’m at the end of my wits with this BS.

You may possibly need a new axle or axle overhaul. Take it to the dealership and have them drain the diff. Has been a common thing with the late Dana M275 and M300 axles. Could also be a number of loose items Sorry if that’s nothing but negativity but please take the truck to a good dealership and have everything documented as you just explained.

@@LehewTech I’m not sure if it’s a failure or just assembly goof ups at Dana. Can’t say with certainty. I do know more than a handful have had this issue. If you follow Ford Boss Me on here, you will see a video chain he posted earlier this year with a similar situation. My recommendation based on that and a few other folks in the industry would be to take it to the dealership and have them go through a very thorough diag. Hopefully I’m dead wrong and it’s something really dumb that takes little time to correct.
