I love PBS Kids, purely because of how charming it is. It's so unalienating and inviting. As a boy with autism and ADHD, PBS Kids was always my go to when I was little, because it never overwhelmed or overstimulated me, it was just a fun time. The bumpers are cute, the mascots are iconic, and the shows themselves (for the most part) still hold up today. I grew up with PBS Kids (because I didn't have cable) and it was such a fun and memorable channel. I'm glad I was a PBS kid.

PBS Kids was definitely useful for those that didn't have cable back then including me as I only had Toon Disney when I was young and those that aren't on cable like PBS Kids itself and GO was a great block that was on it's older kids focus. Nice job on that video!

Funny enough in 2003 (I was 10) was the first time I ever got cable in the house. It was like a whole new world opened up with so many different shows I needed to catch up on and new ones starting up. But, I'd also still give PBS a watch daily for Arthur, Dragon Tales, Cyberchase. Those were good quality shows.

I think one major problem is actually what happened when Dragon Tales was getting almost Arthur numbers...as Emotional Devolopment+Spanish Culture and Language being taught naturally with the kids automatically translating to the viewer without saying "this means" was an extremely rare combination. There were only 26 new Enrique adventures in 13 episodes of a typical 26 episode season which would have made the count 52. Sure they gave a lot of attention to Enrique, but not as much as they could have. I mean sure Max is the overall protagonist, Emmy the deuteragonist and Enrique the tritagonist but they could have made a few more episodes at least that involved Enrique somehow and brought the count up to an even 100. For instance they could have had Enrique get a solo adventure twice for some reason (like Max and Emmy are on vacation and his family is house sitting/possibly sick), and have Enrique get a few adventures with just Emmy (because they clearly were crushing on each other and held hands a few times) and a few adventures with just Max so they could do bro stuff...and finally just before the ending...they could have had Emmy get her own solo adventure set and one last solo adventure for Max...because the Max solo adventures really wound up turning out being the most interesting. Another issue? Several other shows went on a tad too long or didn't get renewed when need be. Arthur should have stopped in 2016. Barney should have stopped in 2000. Zoom and Fetch stopped at the right time. Cyberchase is still going, but they should stop it soon by finally curing Motherboard. Reading Rainbow got canned for an understandable reason, but could have had a few more years. Sesame Street should have ended at season 35. PBS also had an issue when they decided to make their three PBS Kids movies from 1998-2000. In the Barney movie...no kids from the show were used. Sure it's nice having a more serious plot, but it needed the kids from the show at the time to really make it work...like maybe Chip, Linda, Keesha, Robert, Curtis, Emily, Kim and Stephen could have all been present for this since they were the main kids at the time. The Shining Time Station movie was too late despite plans for earlier than it was, it should have been in the early 90's, and finally the Elmo in Grouchland should have been deemed a no go because Sesame Street already had a movie with "Follow that Bird"...what really should have been picked at that time should have used an ABC rule. They had the B part already, but it could have been modified it to use the show kids and have them sing the theme song to bring Barney to life...that probably would have helped. For A? This is where Arthur's Missing Pal should have been released and in theatrical 2d instead of early CGI. For C? They or Fox probably could have pulled a Carmen movie off.

When I was a young child, I lived in an unfriendly neighborhood and I couldn't go outside as much, PBS Kids gave me the comfort and entertainment I needed to get through. Word Girl, Martha's speaks, The Electric Company Reboot, etc. Just a decade ago I was raised with cable T.V and now things have changed. I seriously wonder what it's like to be a young kid now, where streaming and KZfaq content is more dominant.

I guess long story short, PBS Kids was a network that was on top of the children's education mountain at one point before it's competition, Noggin and Sprout, threw them off and tried to replicate their success, only temporarily. Now, there really isn't any problem with PBS Kids outside of bad decisions, it's just that its popularity wouldn't last once other channels came in with better tactics and financial decisions.

@@JuanGomez-ke5py The answer lies in the taxes. My all-time favorite shows on that channel are Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends (obviously), Cyberchase, Sesame Street, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, Dragon Tales, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Maya & Miguel, Reading Rainbow and Fetch w/ Ruffman. And even though I never saw the other few shows that aired on that channel and only seeing them via home media or on YT, but I also love watching Shining Time Station (that vessel Thomas to the States), Theodore Tugboat and The Magic School Bus! It's a shame that alongside Cartoon Network, PBS Kids would decline from removing their Classic shows to being demoted b/c of corporate meddling companies and such. What a shame that our public broadcasting has declined like this. PBS as a whole as source of entertainment and education just can’t compete with ad ridden slop of the streaming services that have appeared everywhere

PBS Kids is still iconic and BIG American TV lore oh man I totally loved Seamse Street, Between the Lions, Wishbone, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Lamb Chops, Kidsongs, Kratts Creatures, The Magic School Bus and totally Arthur back in the 90's and early 00s.

PBS will always have a special place in my heart, for most of us this was our educational programming before the luxury of KZfaq and was kind of like a “start” before you got into Nickelodeon and Disney definitely since back in the 90s and early 2000s, cable truly was a luxury and it was common for many families to not have it at all. For me, I was one of families who didn’t always have cable and spent hours watching PBS until I was about 6 years old.

Tbh, compared to other animation-based networks (and blocks), PBS Kids never had a downfall. Sure, the channel (and block) already became a Nick Jr. clone once the 2013 rebrand happened and many of the pre-2006 shows (except for some like Arthur, Clifford and Cyberchase) were all retired by 2009-2013, but it's still doing wonderful with shows like the Clifford reboot and Elinor Wonders Why. And funny enough, outside of Mister Rogers Neighborhood, they don't have original programming. Most of their stuff were acquired by iconic studios like Sesame Workshop, Universal Animation Studios, Ragdoll and the biggest studio, Nelvana.

HiT era Thomas, Bob the Builder stop motion era will always be a place in my heart, and that is thanks to PBS' schedule and inclusion of those programs, especially British produced programs. A shame that PBS nowadays became bland with their programs, it really makes me miss the days when almost every program (i.e. Fetch, Wordgirl, Super WHY!, sesame Street, etc. ) were memorable and enjoyable to audiences

Honestly, out of all of these shows, I still think Teletubbies may be a close 2nd to my all time favorite, which is Sesame Street. I know there were a lot of folks who were scared of them as a kid, and I can kinda see it, but I always felt happy seeing it because of how much it just felt like watching a bunch of toddlers interacting with things that they find interesting. And it's always hilarious to me how the teletubbies' toddler behavior also means that many of the funny bits are from when they do something wrong just because they find it funny XD

Why Teletubbies? Also that infamous Lion and Bear segment is so awful that they refused to air it after complaints. The Teletubbies themselves are fine, I suppose. But it’s certain segments that range from weird but boring to creepy and unsettling that keep it from being good (in my opinion).

@@princesspikachu3915 i just love how it gives off a sense of charm with how it just feels like toddlers exploring their surroundings. It's simple and cute! And that's true! Although I'm guessing when they made the lion and the bear, they didn't expect it would scare people!

I grew up on PBS and watched regularly up until I was 8 or 9 (2004, always tuned in to Arthur) then occasionally up until 2008 while my younger sister was a toddler. Now, I am a father to a 6 yr old son now and have been watching PBS Kids with him for some years now. I don't think there was ever really a "fall"; the channel is just different and aimed to a new generation far removed from mine or any of ours who are pushing 30 or already in their 30's. Some of my favorite new shows have been Wild Kratts, Let's Go Luna and Molly of Denali. Notable mention because it starting airing in the time period I was not watching: Nature Cat (especially since I am an SNL fan in my adult years haha). It is still a wholesome and educational channel with lots to go around. (I'm curious about Alma's Way, haven't seen much of it yet. I want to give it the benefit as I'm hispanic and seems like a newer take on Maya and Miguel from my childhood).

Remember that rumor that spread around the early internet about Fred Rogers being in the military? Let’s be honest here, he didn’t NEED to be in the military to be badass. His words came from a wholesome place, but they always cut through hateful rhetoric like a knife through butter. That’s why he made so much of an impact.
