PBX emergency calls management in CompletePBX.
Emergency Dialing in CompletePBX Phone Systems. Compliance with US Kari's Law Act of 2017 and other regulation.
Emergency numbers dialing must be handled with extreme care. In 2017 the US passed a law called after a woman by the name of Kari Hunt, which was attacked and killed in a Texas hotel room, while her daughter tried, without success to dial 911, not realizing she has to use the prefix "9" and dial "9911" to get through. The law states that emergency numbers should always pass through directly regardless of prefix.
This is one example of special handling of emergency numbers, but not the only one.
Additional special requirements for emergency numbers handling may be:
enabling emergency dialing on locked phones
enabling emergency dialing on logged-off hot-desking phones
executing special actions when emergency numbers are being dialed, such as:
sending an email
initiating phone alerts
adding local security staff to the call
automatically recording emergency calls
etc.
CompletePBX Emergency module allows the user to define one or more emergency numbers.
These numbers will have priority over any other settings in the phone system and will trigger any special actions defined by the sysadmin, including CompletePBX features as well as any script, as the above examples.
This behavior is a must, whether by law, as in the US Kari's Act Law, or by pure best practices, in any institution that hosts more than a few people, such as hotels, university campuses, office buildings etc.
CompletePBX phone systems allow the definition of one or more emergency numbers. Such emergency numbers will be treated differently from other dialed numbers and can generate an email notification or other custom notifications.
In hotel phone systems, university phone systems, hospital phone systems, and other PBX (private branch extension) implementations it may be mandatory to notify local security on emergency calls in real time.
The CompletePBX emergency module allows generating such notifications and running complex scenarios that may be customized for the organization's needs.
