Consoles PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S introduced high refresh rates at 120hz in 1080p, 1440p, and 4K resolutions. But figuring out exactly what gaming monitor works at those refresh rates is incredibly confusing. Especially with HDMI 2.1 required for 4K 120hz console gaming monitors and only a few 4k HDMI 2.1 gaming monitors released.

I have the Series X with my Samsung Odyssey G7 32'. It’s a game changer, for every game I usually run 1440p 120hz instead of 60hz or 144hz. What set up do you recommend? Also Every time I use low latency mode I notice screen tear. The current software version is 1010.3, i’m not sure if that has anything to do with it but I am aware this monitor is more directed towards PCs.

Its how much of the color spectrum your monitor can display natively without having to approximate. Just means it covers 95 percent of the color spectrum.

Sadly PS5 does not support native 1440p so I do not recommend the G7 for it. It's great for the Xbox though. For PS5 you'll want a good 1080p or a 4k, just know with 4k you'll need one with hdmi 2.1 to get over 60fps. Expand the description to links to my recs in both.

Let’s say you were to choose from the BenQ monitor, LG Ultragear 24GN650-B and the AOC 24G2, disregarding the price differences as I hear the other two are very similar to the BenQ one. Which one would you go for? 🤔 Just solely based on performance and quality. I know it's a handful to answer but a secondhand opinion would be highly appreciated as I'm kinda torn between the three. :D I saved this video up for possible future upgrades in monitors hahah. Great video! Im trying to decide between the Samsung G7 and the LG Ultragear LG 34GP83A on Amazon for $799. The LG seems better, is brighter which I really like. Do you think the LG is compatible with the Xbox Series X? I've heard all kinds of things about curved displays not really working out of the box with their resolutions.

I used Sony 4K TV with xbox series s plugged with hdmi 2.1 cable and the resolution I got was 4k 120 hz, games like FH 5, Gears 5, look so incredible, I can't believe the top notch graphic quality can coming from a $ 300 gaming console

Agreed, For console gaming OLED is the wave. For pc gaming only i would recommend a gaming monitor only as you wont be able to take use of all the features of the OLED. HDR on pc is iffy and other features wont be to use.

Take a look at MSI’s lineup of monitors. They tend to be curvy at 1500R with the other specs you’re looking for such as 27”, 1440p, and Freesync.

I have a 55inch LG C9 I’ve been using for a few years with my One X and no Series X. Have it fully optimized thanks to the guy at HDTV for my SX. BUT, I just picked up G7 27in for SX and absolutely loving it. The G7 is currently 650 at Best Buy. Saving my C9 OLED of course for streaming and whenever I can get my hands on a PS5. Just curious. What are your thoughts on the lgGP950 27 in? It’s super expensive, always sold out so it’s hard to get, but I’m seeing a lot of positive reviews for SX with it. Cheers!

I recommended the LG 27GP950 as the best 4K gaming monitor earlier in the year in my best gaming monitors. That video really took off and I'm probably partially to blame for it always being sold out! :) But given the release of newer alternatives like the Aorus 4k in this video, I wouldn't pay the price premium for it right now.

Amazing video, I have seen that for my Xbox series s I need a 2.0 hdmi port to be able to get 120hz and 1080p is this true? Or will I be able to get 120hz and 1080p with a 1.4 hdmi port?

Hey man, nice video! Been searching around and got a question about those samsung monitors. As the G7 is 240Hz and the xbox only goes to 120Hz, wouldn´t it be better the G5 with the 144Hz? Or are there more diferences that would not be recommended? thank you in advance

You can do either one. The G7 has better picture quality but the G5 is still a good option. If you decide the G7 isn't worth the extra money that makes total sense.

I was wondering, between the BenQ EX2510 and the EX2710 for PS5, if the option to get either is available which one would you recommend? (and if you can include reasons). The difference is one is a 25 inch monitor and one is 27 inches. That's the only fundamental difference. They are both great so you can't go wrong. I personally, am always a fan of the bigger screen

The LG is outstanding. I did so much research, hours on Reddit forums back when series x was still newer and there were discrepancies about if it could do 120fps 1440p. I’ve had no issues with it and couldn’t be any happier.

I could use some help if anyone wouldn’t mind answering a few questions?! I recently just got an Xbox Series X, and I have a gaming monitor that has just horrible graphics. Absolutely horrible! So bad that the next gen Xbox basically looks the same as my old Xbox One S. But here’s the thing, as much as I’d love to get a 4K gaming monitor, I play Apex Legends and Halo very competitively, and so I need to prioritize performance such as FPS and Free-sync over graphics. So could anyone tell me what the best option would be? The price range I’m looking for would be $150-250, maybe $300+ if it was really really worth it! I’m not necessarily trying to become a pro, but close to it. So as much as I’d love a 4K 120hz Freesync monitor, is that even possible within my price range, and would that monitor be able to hold its own against some Esports professionals? I’m about to setup a GoFundMe just so I can get a good gaming setup so I can actually stand a technical chance against pros. Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any help you can give me :)

Yeah, couldn't agree more. Very good display for the price. I don't think you can expect more for the money. Graphics is brilliant, gaming on PS5 in 120Hz mode is great, absolute smooth experience. Awesome KVM feature to switch keyboard+mouse+display between laptop and PS5 with one button. Very good OSD and very comfortable joystick to use it. Many different ports available, can't imagine the need for more. Firmware update was problematic, I had to do it a few times in order to update correctly. Thankfully you only need to do it once. Nice features in graphics settings if you like competitive shooters and want as much clarity as possible you get Black Equalizer so you don't have to turn up the brightness to see better in dark places. You also get Sharpness setting to boost clarity. And Freesync Premium, obviously. Also it's proven to work well with Gsync, not officially supported (as most displays). The build quality is completely fine, the stand is good, too. I mean I have the stand with left/right rotation in my 2nd display and I literally never use it. You set it once on your desk and you leave it be. To sum up, totally recommended but be sure to check for bad pixels. I have read people sometimes need to replace it even a few times to get one with 0 bad pixels. Mine has 1 stuck pixel but 2K pixel is so small that I need to look for it looking closely even though I know where it is so I just accepted 1 stuck pixel, it's invisible anyway.

Since I've already got a good enough monitor, a 144Hz 1080p VA from AOC, I'll probably use it while saving up for a new 120Hz TV at a later date, if I ever find a PS5. Alternatively I'll get a budget 4K TV or monitor depending on price, at the same time as I get a PS5.

Thanks for the video! i have been looking into the Samsung odyssey G7 32in and while i know i would enjoy it for my Series X i am not sure how much my wife would like the 1000R curve. we want a 32in cause she wants a big screen while working. we will be sharing the home office together for her work and my games. She has expressed that she wants a curve but i am worried about the 1000R vs the 1800 or the 1500. Do you think the G7 is a good option for a work from home set up as well? or do you have other suggestions that would work better for our situation?

Lg cx/c1/g1 probably the best but will use this for when I get a gaming pc. Also response time is a double edge sword because the faster response time the more stutter you get with camera pans (the lg oleds suffer a lot from motion stutter sadly) I think I’ll go with va since ips monitors suffer a lot from backlight bleed

I'm not sure I'd buy the best performance one, as it is very expensive and way above 120hz (Alienware aw2721d). See the links in the description. I think the M27Q is a really good flat panel.

The Gigabyte M27Q has an upscaller that allows PS5 to detect it as a 4K screen. It won't look as great as a native 4K screen but it definetly will look better than 1080p and even better than standard 1440p. Therefore it will allow PS5 to output "1440p" with sharper and less aliased edges because it's techically DSR (which is found on PC).

I have tested this and it does not look better than good monitors with 1440p. It looks decent tho. Some games doesn't even detect it and doesn't upscale to 4k so its risky i think

@@seniorAlfredo What? It will always look better. 4K on 1440p is like adding SSAA but sharper. And I wasn't saying it looked better than other monitors, I was saying that in that same monitor (M27Q) playing at "4K" provided an overall greater presentation than playing at native 1440p which is factual. And how can games not "detect it"? The monitor's 4K setting is always on and PS5's is manually toggled in the video settings menu. It literally works as if it was a 4K screen. I mean the PS5 doesn't even have a 1440p option so unless you're talking about PC, I can't quite see what you're trying to achieve.

LG 48" C1 OLED is pretty hard to beat that can also be used as a PC monitor.

Unfortunately OLED TV's are extremely expensive in European countries. Where I live the cheapest OLED TV costs more than a Xbox Series X. If I'm going to buy a screen that will be used solely for gaming then I would prefer to not have to pay more than what the actual console cost me. Don't get me wrong, I've seen an OLED in action and the picture quality and colours are absolutely amazing, but in many countries OLED's are prohibitively expensive.

Great video, the best I've seen so far. I do have a question though, I'm aware ps5 doesn't support 1440p, however I've read that it will downscale it to 1080p, with that in mind, is it worth getting a 1440p 144hz monitor in anticipation of the ps5 releasing support for the 1440p monitor? Would it being downscaled to 1080p affect image quality over a strictly 1080p monitor? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Don't do that, Sony seems to be digging in their heels and I wouldn't be on PS5 supporting 1440p. Go 4k HDMI 2.1 for just a bit more money.

@@xXx_Baba-Smoker_xXx I think it's really hit and miss to be honest and Sony hasn't provided any decent information as far as I can see. Everyone also has different opinions as it's quite subjective. I've personally just gone for a 1080p 144hz monitor and plan on getting another one in 4k 60hz so I can get the best of both worlds without spending thousands.

@@mattc6410 Well, from what I've seen, select monitors, the Samsung G5 and G7 among them, downscale the 4K input to a 1440p image while also giving you the option for a high refresh rate (144Hz/240Hz), so you'd get both a higher resolution and a higher frame rate without having to buy 2 monitors. 1440p isn't 4K though. But maybe not having to buy 2 monitors is worth that.

Great video, although I do want to add something about the VRR on xbox. At hdmi 2.1 you get VRR with no issues. At hdmi 2.0 VRR via freesync does work if the monitor supports the VESA 120hz. So if you look at the manual and at it says 199.98 for example, it does NOT support freesync for xbox. At hdmi 1.4 is have not been able to find a monitor that support freesync on xbox at all. Quick recommendation: Dell s2721dgf and LG 27GN800 (both 1440p) do work with freesync at 120hz.

In addition: no freesync should not be a deal breaker for more casual gamers. Games are well optimized and won’t stutter very often.

I bought the Gigabyte FV43U when it released. I use it on my pc as a secondary monitor for gaming when I use a controller and for my PS5 when I want to game in my bedroom. It has an amazing picture and the HDR blew me away.

Epic content - subscribed! Hey I have a question: I only play Fifa on my Playstation 5, which apparently only runs on max 60 Hz. If that is the case, would it mean that the game performance and graphics would be exactly the same on a 4k/1ms/ 60Hz Monitor as on a much more expensive 4k/1ms/120Hz monitor? If its the same, I then would go ahead and buy a 60Hz monitor - any recommendations for 4k & 1ms by any chance? ;-)

Hey I have a series s and run it on a legion y25-25. It looks amazing however it is worth noting if you do not have HDMI 2.1 on the monitor you will have to manually select 120 hz. This will disable freesync so you will not benefit from free sync unless you have hdmi 2.1.

So my Xbox Series X can’t use freesync with any compatible freesync monitor unless it has HDMI 2.1?? Bro, I’m screwed… I’m trying to become a pro FPS player on Apex Legends and Halo, and I need every drop of performance I can get, but in order to really achieve the level of hardware I need, it seems I need to have tons of money to spend. Hybrid system for me, as I have a 5800x+3090 PC, the Series X, and an older XBox One X. For the full couch experience, my Series X is connected to my 65” 2019 LG C9 OLED for games, movies, and general viewing. My monitor, an IPS LG Ultragear 32” 1440p 165Hz, is connected to the PC for intensive gaming and the One X if my wife is using the OLED. Would’ve gotten a PS5 if they were readily available for MSRP.
