Q: My computer is overheating and wont turn on. Will this help?
A: So to troubleshoot a computer that wont turn on, I would usually say to start with this video. However, an overheating computer can damage multiple components, make multiple components act in weird ways, and therefor makes it very hard to troubleshoot which components are the cause of the computer not turning on. You should try to address the overheating first. You can see that process here; • How To Fix Overheating...
Q: Why does this power build-up issue happen? How can I prevent it?
A: Make sure your using your computer plugged into a surge protector and not directly into the wall. Also, make sure to not use your computer around large sources of static like in bed, on pillows, etc. Repair tech wear anti-static bracelets when working on computer or put the on anti-static pads. Even though the computer case means you dont have to go that far, try not to use the computer around heavy static sources.

When I press the power button the picture of the battery with 94% when I plug the charger the light comes on showing the computer is charging what shall I do?

Thank you so much! My Lenovo yoga 7i died and their customer service was an absolute nightmare to deal with. Your advice of removing the battery and letting the static pass worked to perfection! You've saved me so much stress. If anyone else has a similar problem, you'll need a torx T5 screwdriver to open the cover and a Phillips PH0 screwdriver to remove the battery. I got mine as a set on amazon for $20. I hope this helps :)

Thank you SO much. I didn’t open up the computer and remove the battery but holding the power button seemed to do the trick. I don’t know what I would’ve done without this video, my warranty has expired so I would have had to pay for repairs. For those of you who want to fix it now/don’t want to spend money but the battery is internal, try just holding down the power button for a few minutes. Edit: turn up your brightness too

This is the third time this has happened to our Lenovo Ideapad. Both previous times the failure to start was due to a discharged battery. This is the first time I had to actually unplug the internal battery. Your method worked. Turns out the battery was fully charged, so maybe it was static. Thank you.

Thank you for your help in fixing my Lenovo laptop. It did take 3 tries with pressing down on the ON button for a full minute, but it finally took. I had spent most of the day looking for new computers. So happy this unfroze my computer. Thanks so much for your help. Hi, I do have the same model of Lenovo you are using in your video but different on their keyboard (UK keyboard), I do have a problem with mine, it's still working, however, it occasionally turns off or reboots when you accidentally push the keyboard a bit hard, or if you carry the unit, it freezes my screen or even turns off automatic or it will automatically reboot, what I suppose to do with this? thanks for the help.

Hi. Firstly, thanks for your great instructional videos. They are really well made and easy to understand. Makes a nice change :-) That said, am still having an issue with a Lenovo Ideapad S145. When it is turned on, the power light comes on, but there doesn't appear to be any other activity. It doesn't feel or sound like anything is happening within the computer and the screen stays black. The power stays on, but nothing at all is happening. I have removed and reinserted the RAM but this has not done anything. Any ideas or does it need to go to a repair place? TIA

So, my Lonovo will turn on, i see a dim screen then it turns off and repeats. I'm sure the issue is the static problem. The problem is i cant open the back of this laptop ( because of the warranty ) and cant find a way to repair it without having to take it apart. You seem like you could potentially know a way to fix this, if you do please tell me.

HI. I have a lenovo T480S and when i activate from bios hyperthreading, it boot up, but then freeze. Or somethimes windows start, working on the laptop, after 10 min freeze. If i keep hyperthreading off then its no problem. What is the solution for this problem. Thank you

Ive spent all day trying to fix a coworkers laptop. I have the novo button and read 1000 trouble shooting threads. Thank you so so so much for this video! Hi @PC Monkey , my lenovo Yoga C740 turns on and reaches the normal home screen but as soon as I open a browser or document it freezes completly within few seconds. Just to add amongst other things that happen is that my power button light blinks and if the caps lock key light is on it wont turn off or viceversa. I hope you can guide me to an appropriate video or give some suggestions. Thanks!

My laptop is charging bcs I can see the charging light but the screen is not turning on and neither can I hear the fans when I press the power button does that mean that there is a problem with the battery

My laptop power indicator turned on for few seconds but turns off right away over and over again like a loop. The same thing is also observable into the fan, I can hear the fan sound for few seconds and turns off right away and then turns on again repeating the process. I never got into display where its shows the brand logo. I have a dual battery (outer and inner). Can I apply the said methods in the video to my problem?

Hi Thanks for your videos. Not sure you can help. I have a Lenovo Ideapad 3. Model 81WO. Light comes on next to power cable on side of computer. Power button does nothing. I have taken out bios battery and internal battery (L16M2PB2) and held down power button to etc but it doesn’t fix things. Should I change the internal L16M2PB2 battery or is something else wrong?

@@PC_Monkey unfortunately yes I have. It does work with or without battery. After bios reset. Or ram reseat. I guess it’s the motherboard?

You can test the power adapter as seen here; kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j6iYprl5zsrJd3k.html. If that checks out, you can test the power jack on the motherboard and follow the power flow from there; kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ftaRldmjs8fTlIk.html. However with most computers, a motherboard replacement costs about the same as a motherboard repair.

Any idea of a Lenovo Thinkpad yoga? When the power button is pressed the keyboard get lid, hdd seems to be engaged, and the fan runs for. A few seconds then gets rebooted and all over again and again . Any ideas what's the cause? Thanks

uhm so my computer doesn't turn on when its not plugged in, but when its plugged in, it powers on. The computer also sometimes pops up a message that said something like battery error has occured, it cannot be charged please find a replacement. Do i really need to replace it?

Sounds like its showing signs of the battery being bad as well as giving you an error message saying to replace. Yes, I would say the battery needs to be replaced :)

Hi i have a lenovo 330s ideapad and when i press the power key my laptop starts, lenovo splashscreen shows up and then the screen goes black and after that i have to hold the power key for few seconds till i hear a click to turn off the laptop and then i have to press the power key again and it starts. So basically i have to start it twice to actually make it work. I can get the laptop working but im afraid that turning it off directly again and again will lead to a problem what should i do ?

What if your laptop fell was working properly after it fell, then powers off and refuses to power back on? Tried removing the battery and even the CMOS. It's a Lenovo Ideapad 3 15 inch. If I use the little reset button, the boot menu comes up and then it cuts out right after. Not sure what to do and I'm stumped.
