1st time running the Peak Rail 7 - Runner Vs Steam, on Monday 1st April 2024.
Official finishing time of 48:28 and 22nd finisher out of 209 and 2nd in M40 category
A fairly straight forward out an back race again the train, largely on compacted gravel or tarmac, but with a couple of interesting sections that were rather quite muddy and not easily traversable at any pace when wearing road shoes !
A damp morning, with some misty rain in the air, which not a bother while running it does unfortunately, accumulate quite readily on the camera lens.
The first half felt fairly comfortable, holding a reasonable pace, perhaps a little quick as it was a bit hard to hold on the return, but with the threat of being over taken by the train, I manage to keep it going.
A fun event, which hopefully will return to again.

Cracking vid Matt! Definitely a race a bit out of the ordinary, great viewing, the sniff of the finish sprint was a corker! 👍🦾🏃

Thanks Stuart, just a shame it was so damp in the air and subsequently on the camera lens. Had to put in the sprint at the end, needed to take those places back !

Great Video Matt. Very entertaining, looked hard work the muddy conditions in the narrow gaps ideal for a slip. 🏃‍♂️

The track is quite unusual, it was interesting to watch. As much as 50 minutes, but the time flew by unnoticed, like on a parkrun. The signals of the locomotives added to the atmosphere of movement. Passengers on passing trains waved their hands joyfully. Although the track is not very simple, everything turned out great! 🏃‍♂🙂👍

Yeah, it is a bit different to the routes I normally run on! The train sounded very close a lot of the time, definitely made you want to run faster to try and keep ahead!

That looks different, I'd be interested if they hold it again. I guess if the engine has to change ends at half way, that slows it down enough to give the runners a chance!

I was different indeed, they have been holding it for a few years, so hopefully they will continue to do so And yeah, they swap ends before returning. The train does stop at a once or twice each way, so there is more of an overlap with the main field of the runners.

@MattClarry thank you. I think I'd be around 6 minutes slower than you so that would make it tighter!
