About a year ago, I left my comfortable job in finance to start Peak Frameworks. Since then, I've launched three courses and put out many KZfaq videos in order to help people break into private equity and investment banking. In this video, we'll go over how much money my business has been generating, how many hours I work, and how my perspective on careers has changed. Running an online business isn't for everyone, but it's allowed me to gain more control over my life.
0:00 - Intro
1:41 - Hours and Revenue
3:55 - My Path & Roadmap
6:52 - Lifestyle & Ambition
Peak Frameworks is a business career prep service started by Matt Ting and Patrick Fong, who have each spent several years working in investment banking and private equity in New York and Silicon Valley. Matt and Patrick met at Evercore, a top tier investment bank, and over the years have tutored and coached dozens of candidates to land their dream business job.

This channel is great. I admire you for going the typical IB ---> PE route, getting a solid foundation, and then finding a market in serving students who are considering the path. Your channel is great and you helped me land a summer analyst role at PWP next summer. But, like yourself, I definitely want to pursue some sort of entrepreneurial venture in the future once I identify an opportunity. The KZfaq grind is a slow but steady one. If you keep pumping out these high-quality videos, It's only a matter of time until the channel starts to grow rapidly. And, at that point, the course business will begin to grow alongside the increased KZfaq audience. Keep up the great work - excited to see you grow.

In all honesty, I believe this channel is already producing high quality content on a consistent basis, and it would appear that the main reason subscribers seem hardstuck is content branding. The audience for financial career content is small as is, at most high six to low seven figures. Further, the demographic for those who consume content on KZfaq is heavily age-biased (although this means as audiences mature, informative content will continue to perform better). And finally, of those who are interested in finance and fit the target demographic to consume content on KZfaq, not all of them will wish to combine those two. While I certainly enjoy finance content, most of what I watch is Veritasium, Economics Explained, Zach Star... you get the picture. Overall, I believe this channel has promise, but it falls into the classic pitfall of prioritizing education over entertainment, when successful educational channels are always the other way around and prioritize the medium through which they present information above the information itself. Combine the current formula with solid graphics design like at Crash Course or Kurzgesagt and this channel will be golden.

While I got your PE course for free from a coworker, and send it to interns coming into my firm ... I support what your doing and look up to you. Doing what others dream of my friend.

Thanks for your videos! Your comparable valuation analysis video saved my final assignment for Mergers and acquisition class😅 im graduating from Uni soon as a financial major and still do know know what to do afterwards, because im an international student that needs tons of documentation to get the job or even opportunity. Making a video for international students in financial major would be amazing!!!

Great video as usual Matt. I really liked the chart at 1:15. Looks like you've finally graduated from making all your graphics in Powerpoint and Excel! Also, I actually laughed out loud at "equity research (with a homie)" I love that. Reminds me of your famous Facebook caption: "me and my friend". My favorite part was the Lifestyle & Ambition section at the end. The finance part is interesting, but I especially like when you give your philosophical perspectives on life and general advice. I think there's a big potential market/opportunity there for you!

Your channel provides such a refreshing and informative viewpoint. As a student trying to figure out what career paths I should consider, and more broadly as a young person trying to build an enjoyable/meaningful life, I feel like there is something missing from most career-oriented KZfaqrs' content. Namely, a frank discussion of the specifics of work-life balance, time for other activities, and potential for purposeful achievement of any given occupation. Your channel really cuts through the BS on every topic, and I really appreciated the tradeoffs between high finance and entrepreneurship that you examined in this video (please do more!). I'm not planning on going into IB--and I'm ashamed to say I didn't know your name until watching this video, despite having seen many others you've made--but I still want to say: thank you, Matt!

Please sir can you do a video on. 1) "tell us a time you were asked to work on a project with a difficult leader, what did you do or how were you able to make things work out? 2) If you asked to work on merger and acquisition deal with a client on behalf of goldman Sachs, what will you? 3) If company A gives you offer this week and company B will give you offer next week, which offer will you accept and why? 4) Tell us what makes Asset management unique or important. 5) where do you plan to be in the next 5 years. 6) Tell us financial news that you fellow and what interest you in the news. 7) Tell me about a time you faced a difficulty, when, how did you solve it and what was the result? 8) Tell me about a time you resolved a conflict with someone, when, action and result.

Very interesting and agree online biz is awesome. I went into online marketing space straight outta college 2016 and now wanna go to b school and get finance exp in IB. Funny how paths converge. Between both worlds. Online space has a lot of fake marketers but your stuff is solid and obv legit for coaching. I just realized I want a real career for a bit and deal experience and I just love modeling. By fake marketers I mean the coaches coaching coaches to coach coaches and the social media traders who teach others to daytrade lol. I will merge these two worlds after IB/b school

Congrats on your success man. I am so lost on where I want to go. I've been working in accounting for a vertically integrated real estate investment firm for a while but there is no way to break into the finance/acquisitions/analyst side here. It's been 3 years and no openings. If I hang out for another year or two I might get lucky. I have a good relationship with the guys on that side of the business but opportunities are rare and the pay is not amazing. I debated going back to school but my background doesn't lend itself to a top MBA program. But recently I've been interviewing with a boutique REPE firm and I have my fingers crossed. It is going to be way more hours than I work currently but hopefully a lot more money. I've thought a lot about going into business for myself but I don't think I have the skills I need to do that yet
@PeakFrameworks

If it's been 3 years, probably time to move firms or try something else. I would start recruiting around at boutiques like you are doing

What are your thoughts on going into Venture Capital after my MBA? I would like to bridge into entrepreneurship, but I’ve got a family to support so I’ll have to work my way into doing my own thing. Would you say VC is a better lifestyle than PE?
@PeakFrameworks
@PeakFrameworks 2 жыл бұрын
Yes it seems generally that VC is better lifestyle than PE. Depends on the firm obviously. Overall it seems like VCs do less diligence vs. PE and the culture is more like the tech industry (which is way better).
