0:00 - Dolgoch, Delays and Downpours.
4:00 - Prince and Portmerion.
6:10 - Welsh Pony.
7:37 - I'm ill... LET'S CLIMB A MOUNTAIN.
10:00 - Helicopters in the sky and lord of the flies.
12:40 - PART 2: • Awdry, Waves and Runaw...
NOTE: The contents of this video were filmed following the UK governmental restrictions in-between Lockdown 1 and 2. Despite all odds, we did manage to carefully carry out not 1 but 2 trips to Wales again this year.
In trip 1, Holly and I do the obligatory Talyllyn journey amongst a thunderstorm in the railway's 1st week of reopening (in part 2 we visit in the last week before closure again!). The main star is Welsh Pony, which after an incredible overhaul steamed again in 2020 after an absense of over 80 years!! We see No.5 before it was fully lined and numbered in October, which you'll see in part 2.
We also take a stroll through the beautiful Itallian-ate village of Portmerion, and then climb Snowdon on a miraculously clear day.

I've never learned how to pronounce Talyllyn and it drives me up the wall. I've heard Tally-Lin, Tally-Flin, Tally-Hwin, there's never a correct way it seems.
@OmegaInfinityAlpha
@OmegaInfinityAlpha 3 жыл бұрын
I watched an LMM episode on Dolgoch, and through the whole thing Laurie pronounced it Tal-a-CLIN. Where the hell there's a "c" in there I have no idea, but he was always with a member of the railway itself and no one ever corrected him. I'm convinced that no one knows how to actually pronounce it and everyone just rolls with whatever someone else says.
@MoeJama

I was doing a research project on welsh heritage railways for my collage a few weeks ago, and I noticed that the person struggling with the slate wagon and the switch about 5 minutes into Railway with a Heart of Gold appears to be Rev. Wilbert Awdry. I was wondering if, as a more dedicated Railway Series fan who has the benefit of living in the UK, you might have noticed yourself at some point and gotten confirmation one way or another. I know it's possible, as the actual video used in the production was taken in the early 1950's by the society, around the time Awdry would have joined, but I would love to know one way or the other for sure if it's him. I was only able to find one image of him around that time to compare to, and the video is a bit grainy, so I can't be sure.
@Terrier55Stepney
@Terrier55Stepney 3 жыл бұрын
I believe it was a BBC actor, and just coincidentally looks like Awdry. I'm sure he would have mentioned his appearance in the film had that been him, though I can't tell you for certain. It's nice to imagine it is him though!

@@Terrier55Stepney I believe most of the footage used was original from the society's recording in the early 50's, though. They might have staged that one scene, but most of the filming was done when making a documentary was only barely being discussed, for the purpose of record keeping. Would the BBC have a record somewhere of what the case is? I would like to confirm one way or the other.

Does the UK really get hot? I'm from Australia and the bull stuff really grows mad thick here over summer. So thick you almost require boots to tolerate it. We get bushfires here as well as heatwaves and droughts. If I could, perhaps I should move to the UK. I can't wait to go to New Zealand. Actually, it's the first day of summer in Australia today, but surprisingly it isn't hot
