Lyrics:
I see the world, feel the chill
Which way to go, windowsill
I see the words on a rocking horse of time
I see the birds in the rain
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Oh, dear Dad, can you see me now?
I am myself, like you somehow
I'll ride the wave where it takes me
I'll hold the pain, release me
Oh, oh I
Oh, oh
Oh, dear Dad, can you see me now?
I am myself like you somehow
I'll wait up in the dark for you to speak to me
How I've opened up, release me
Release me, release me, ah, release me
Oh, oh I
Oh, whoa, ah ooh, ooh

My brother passed away a couple years ago. We loved Pearl Jam. Best live show I've ever been to. He belted out every song along with Eddie at the show. He was so alive and full of love that night. This song brings that all back to me. .makes my sob but I love it. I miss you brother. See you on the other side

My dad passed, after five year's of Alzheimers. I took care of him, and I made sure he was cared for by his doctor's. I had mixed feelings about him, for he wasn't the greatest dad. He was abusive, but I tried to rise above him. I took him to places for interaction, got him his favorite foods, tried to show him love. Once the disease progressed to much, he had to be put in a facility. I had to say goodbye, twice, because he recovered from his finality. I told him, I loved him, and forgave him

Out of the furnace brought me here. My Father was murdered and i always wanted to take revenge but i was molded to let God take vengeance for it is his to take not ours. Im thankful for everything and the love that i have in my heart. He was a Vietnam veteran and survived 2 tours out there in the jungles to come home and be killed by Americans he fought for. Peace to all my brothers and sisters out there who were fortunate to not have their closest ones taken from them.

Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately our country is drastically changing from the days that people respected one another. I can't say that I know how you feel, hopefully I never will. I can say any man that is willing to risk his life to keep our country safe and free from terrorists & enemies, both foreign and domestic is someone to be very proud of. Too many people seemingly hate our country and don't appreciate everything that our brave men and women in uniform sacrifice, provide for us and put their families through. To everyone who thinks our country is horrible and wants to protest in favor of extremist and terrorist groups, go live in Palestine, Iran, Pakistan or North Korea. Then, and only then, should You have the right to support Authoritarian governments and regimes. If you are lucky enough to make it out of one of those countries as an American, or if you're able to survive in one of those countries being gay, lesbian, bisexual or a transgender person and you still believe that America is so horrible then you can be allowed to support those groups. IDK what has made so many Americans turn to hate and try to mask it as sympathy for people who generally back and believe in all these anti-American beliefs. I'm sorry, I could go on forever, I just want Americans to realize how good they have it here compared to the places that they are protesting and showing support for. May your father rest in peace. He definitely earned his place in Heaven. Without men like him we wouldn't be a free nation.

I have never an opppurtunity to talk with him because he was truck driver and he seldom visit our home. But when I hear his death new, I didn't upset or angry about it because I was just a child. But now, I see you father, I am 21 years old, remembering all chilhood memories from what it had been left. I am like you somehow. Nihat baba...

Lost my father 3 years ago. Just this morning, I was listening to this on repeat. I didn’t even realize when I started to cry silently, was too lost in it. This one just hits so differently!

My dad passed in 2022 of a cancer that spread through his body really quickly and when i saw his body for the first time i felt like collapsing to the floor and shriveling up. Its been a year now and i still miss him so much. Even though my mom made this her dads song when he passed in 2018 im making this my dad's song too. This is their song. I love you dad. I will meet you in heaven❤❤❤❤ 1973-2022

I still cry for my dad. Like Eddie I thought he was dead until I was 15. I was lucky to find out he was alive and got to go live with him for 3 short years while I attended highschool in Anchorage. We were/are just about identical. He died in his 50s, I've lived a longer life, and still feel him inside my persona...

Love Pearl Jam, I think Eddies voice is one of a few voices of a generation. Particularly this song of late, I didn't fully understand the importance of the song, until my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer. I listened to this for the past 6 months, until his passing 1 month ago...it helped me through hard times, he's been released now and no longer in pain. I hope he talks to me in the dark when I wake, miss you mate.

You see, this is why those of us who cane up in the 90s were so lucky....we got music made by people who werent afraid to be earnest, serious, and were comfortable exposing their feelings and frailties and demons. It was honest. Heartfelt. Profound. None of which you could say about the popular shit being made now.

This song speaks to my soul....Hits me deep in my heart... My father left when I was around 8, never had much of a relationship with him. He was jealous of the fact that I was close with my mother, everything was a competition with me. He died of some rare form of cancer around 2009, was sick for over a year and a half. He laid on his deathbed for months, never once asked to see me one last time. I didn't even find out he had died until a couple of months afterwards. The words, the feelings this song elicits in me, are indescribable. Thank you to the members of Pearl Jam for this masterpiece, you have been a huge part of my life ever since I heard 'Alive' for the first time back in 1991.

I can imagine that he wanted to clear the air, make amends, explain his thoughts, his actions, why he was that way, how he came to be so,.......the fear that it is too late, that we don't or never mattered, that we are insufficient, that we are not valued, the fear that we won't be understood, rejection,......pride and stoicism are false, we all seek peace of mind and to be released from the bindings that have kept us out of the current of a fulfilling life. He wasn't a monster, he was a man, he was your father and he loved you.

My older brother lost his dad in a car crash when he was 3 years, 6 years before I was born. Although we've always had a pretty good sister/ brother relationship, and I might add, he's always been a good brother. I know not never knowing his father has haunted him in a lot of ways. We actually went on a road trip with his sons, my nephews, to go see Pearl Jam in Pemberton B.C. and it was amazing experience. It was my first time seeing them his second or third. when they played "Release" it just hit my heart what he's been feeling for years. Thank you Eddie, as we know you are in a similar situation
