long live the 45-70, 140 years and still kicking :-) I shoot my 1895 Marlin comfortably up to 100 yards, at 200 yards the buckhorn sides makes it a bit more challenging :-)

I have a Pedersoli replica Sharps 1874 in .45/70 and. Ruger No 1 which will handle hard kicking loads. The Pedersoli double is a lovely rifle, shot one some years ago and wish I had bought it. Factory .45/70 loads are quit mild compared to what is possible with hand loads in a modern rifle . Definitely a pig rifle.

That's a rifle, in a caliber, I would never have expected to shoot that accurately at that distance and with apparently negligable recoil. I was blown away when you drilled that first cannister! Could be a very addicting habit. You are shooting subsonic ammo that still hits like Thor's hammer.

That was a really fun rifle I think it’s worth the 11grand in my opinion . Pedasoli makes very high quality rifles and Musket reproductions. I would love to own their 1873 Springfield reproduction in 45/70😊

45-70 is $98 a box of 20 at my local shop, but I suppose $5 a round is not a problem when you've got an 11k rifle.

Good Lord, where do you live? I could get 375 H&H for $3 a shot even during the Covid panic-buying, and it’s much less common here (USA) than 45-70. Perhaps that’s the problem - 45-70 is much more common than 375 H&H, but I would much prefer the latter to the former.

Have the Pedersoli double in 45-70 but with a silver colored engraved receiver. Just got mine used at Cabelas in Idaho. The gun is fun to shoot and gets a lot of attention when I take it out. Thanks for the video cause I think it’s the first one on KZfaq with this particular firearm.

Try the Garrett Hammerhead ammunition. I handload for the 45-70 and will say that all but a few factory loads are anemic at best.

First thing I thought was this thing was gonna kick the shit out of you. I'm guessing it must be really heavy to soak up that 45-70 recoil. I shot a friend's Rossi Rio Grande 45-70 years ago and it was pretty harsh. Pedersoli does make some really nice rifles from what I've seen. They make replicas of the Springfield Trapdoor and various falling block and lever actions. Had no idea that they had a double barrel rifle though.

Very beautiful gun, it's nice to see a break action double rifle. Here in America we have single shot break action rifles readily available. The ones that come to mind are the Henrys and Thompson Contenders, though there are others. I'm assuming those two are allowed in Australia?

Oh my God! Your Australia is beautiful. But honestly, I thought the Aussies had turned into bleeding pussified wimps. I thought you all let the Socialists take your guns away from you. Glad to see the Commies didn't get them all. 45-70 is a great cartridge. They have a trajectory like a rainbow, but they are so fun to shoot long distances. 300- 500 yards shots are very satisfying and without a 30 shot magazine I can have an afternoon of quality time in the field without breaking the budget. Reloading those 45-70s are a breeze too. Just love them. A good spotting scope is an accessorie that I find really good to bring with me when shooting paper targets and long range silhouettes also. I have a gas canister hanging from a tripod made of rebar and it rings out like a bell so great it puts a smile on my face when it peels.

A very pretty double rifle indeed. And it would probably be enough gun for any North American game. But if you had some Cape buffalos running around in your backyard, perhaps trampling your mom's azaleas, then I would recommend something with a bit more kick.

It does not recoil because your shooting wussy loads. Factory ammo is pathetic, get some buffalo Bore P+ then you'll feel it. Also at 9.5lbs or more the weight is absorbing the recoil. Get the one in 450NE it will be a whole different story mate! Good video.
