The tight chain to the flapper of the toilet is a pretty tricky issue because it would have always leaked from the time of install. Visually it would look as though the flapper is closed and it is nearly an impossibility that the chain could over tighten itself and cause a problem. It is much more likely the flapper needs to be changed and it is extremely inexpensive.

+Tyler Pearson I actually clicked on this video kind of expecting to see something like this. It's extremely common. I used to do plumbing work with my friend and his grandpa, we pissed in potted plants, sinks, you name it. We were told that it's rude to ask to use their bathroom. Lol. Like it's not rude to piss in their plants and sinks. Eh. We were kids. Didn't understand. Still not entirely sure why he refused to use their bathrooms.
@helenkruse
@helenkruse 8 жыл бұрын
you said If a repairman asked to use my bathroom, they are welcome. Then again, I live in the country so there are plenty of trees out there.haha My late Husband was a brickmason who subbed work. We did residential and commercial. So many weeks I would drop the bills off and pick the checks up at the builders and they had memo's attached. The memo was concerning the use of the new bath tubs, sinks and toilets being used way before the water was turned on to the homes. These were in brand new subdivisions where they could urinate on any tree. Any crew caught using the fixtures were fired. My late Husband told his crew, you piss in the tub, or anywhere in the house, you piss your job with him away. He fired two guys for urinating in the tub. These were brand new homes. When the brick is going up, the sheetrock isn't even finished on the interior. So this happens all over. They are pigs, plain and simple. Pigs with no respect for themselves, their jobs or for anyone else.
@YodaWasSith

you said I am sorry to hear about your injury. Some people are just naturally pigs and have no respect. They do this to others, and treat people like trash in other ways and think it's funny,yet when it is done to them, they go beserk. Like the old saying goes, "You can dish it out, but you can't take it" fits those type to a tee. Hope you aren't still down with your injury and if so, get well soon,if not,either way, I wish you the best in all you have to do and all that is here and now and things to come.

On the plumbers side most plumbers are not going to assume sabotage in their diagnosis, and would assume the chain length was working before fine so it should not need to be diagnosed as so unless they were told the homeowner messed around with it to fix on their own.

No question this is a problem Nationwide probably worldwide. It's a roll of the dice the type of help you receive. When a plumber turns up they're not looking for sabotage, if you're told "it just keeps running after it's flushed". First thought would be: needs a new siphon, not: somebody has messed with it. The toilet problem was a bit unfair, chains don't normally tighten themselves.

As a contractor in business for over 35 years, I want to address an issue: many homeowners don't want to let a repairman use their toilet. Most employed people have access to a bathroom; most contractors do not have a portable bathroom traveling with them. Contractors are no different than anyone else; sometimes we need to use the toilet. How many of you reading this have been told by an employer that you can't use the company bathroom? How many of you have been told to leave your place of work and go find a gas station? Would you expect to work somewhere for over eight hours and not be told you could use the bathroom if needed? I won't even mention the homeowners who never think to offer even water to a contractor sweating away in their home. I won't mention the homeowners who think it's fine for their dogs to jump all over you as you're trying to work, or who make an issue out of moving their cars out of the driveway for safety. For every problem contractor there's a problem homeowner. Any homeowner who makes an issue out of a simple request to use the toilet will never see me again.

Ok, toilet flush chains don't just shorten themselves. I've seen them break and Ive seen them get caught on the lever inside, but failing to recognize something that never ever happens except by 'toilet sabotage' is a somewhat honest mistake.
@htomerif

***** And actually, most of those guys tried to replace the flapper. That usually is what goes bad, *especially* on older toilets. The rubber gets oxidized and hard and warps to the point where gets stuck moving up and down or won't make a seal. For that matter, with the faucet, they don't just come unscrewed on their own. Notice that the only problem that does actually happen, the dish washer drain line getting plugged, was correctly diagnosed by all of them (if I remember).

I understand the idea of a repairman replacing the toilet parts even if they may not be required. I also understand the recommendation of a newer, more water-efficient toilet. If you show up and do anything, a completely different problem days or weeks later becomes your fault because you were the last to touch it. I installed a tile kitchen countertop in a home and was called back days later on a Sunday night because the phones were not working. The problem was that lightning fried the computer modem, but in the mind of the homeowner since I had removed the telephone jack when tiling the kitchen backsplash, the phone problem was caused by something I did.

Second guy seemed honest enough. I could see the toilet issue. I am not a plumber but I have also made the assumption is the… whatever the rubber seal part is. Honestly, a lot of companies have strict policies against using customers bathrooms (even if you ask them). This is because a lot of repairmen / utility workers have been accused of theft (often medication), so it's easier just to have your employees use public bathrooms or go inside of a container / bottle in your work van. One company I used to work for (a cable provider) used to issue us these bags that you'd piss in (you'd go in the back of your van), it gels up / deodorizes, and you just throw it away in a dumpster or in a can at a gas station, they were actually pretty cool. I wish I could remember what the hell they were called.

+Terry Hanson No, its not. You obviously haven't seen some videos of "professionals" in offices pulling crap like that, or you wouldn't be spewing such ignorant BS. There are gross people in every industry. It doesn't make everyone gross. Your Intellect level appears to be nonexistent with comments like that!

You should have let them know when you confronted them that they had been captured on camera AND that you caught them urinating. Also, it would have been good if you were accompanied by the EXPERTS you brought in when you confronted the repairman.

Basically, this proves that reputable independent companies and locally owned companies are way more consistent than national chains.

Most likely because national chains have many sources of income from various locations and use their brand as a ‘verification’ that they know what they’re talking about. Plus, they can afford to lose a customer here or two over large charges. Local owned business can’t afford to lie, deceive, or push faulty product because they’ll go out of business fast. If a single location of a huge chain goes down In flames, sure; the higher ups lose some money but they don’t untimely go out of business. Unlike family/local owned business.

Seriously me and brother own a plumbing company and we do great honest work but I can see further down the future hiring trust worthy people will be hard not to mention commission incentives, I personally know someone from a chain and the amount he needs to sell is ridiculous they're salesmen with wrenches
