yo. love your videos. I think you need to update your definition of stoicism, dude. Stoicism is rad. You are a stoic. The Stoics are especially known for teaching that "virtue is the only good" for human beings, and that external things, such as health, wealth, and pleasure, are not good or bad in themselves (adiaphora) but have value as "material for virtue to act upon". Many Stoics-such as Seneca and Epictetus-emphasized that because "virtue is sufficient for happiness", a sage would be emotionally resilient to misfortune. The Stoics also held that certain destructive emotions resulted from errors of judgment, and they believed people should aim to maintain a will (called prohairesis) that is "in accordance with nature". Because of this, the Stoics thought the best indication of an individual's philosophy was not what a person said but how a person behaved.[3] To live a good life, one had to understand the rules of the natural order since they believed everything was rooted in nature. Love you guys... 40!!!

I loved all three ladies and there energy and humour BP. Whenever it's possible please have them on asap! Additionally, bring your magnificent and beautiful wife back, it was very special and very touching to see you light up with her on and reacting to her real life and unexpected reaction to music we know is so special to you. The sincerity and unabashed respect I see in your face as you mouth the words along to hi ren in all your guest reaction videos fkn chokes me up and I freaking cry a little bit every freaking time! BUT I appreciate it though because I FEEL it too (and as in IT I mean ALL the damn feels from empathizing wi th ren and all the shit thats been thrown his way to how amazing he is and the unexplainable feelings of respect, humilty, admiration, enjoyment, the feelings of wanting to someway somehow help him carry some of his heavy burdens and the feelings of being grateful to be witness, be apart of , engage with awhole ass community that has formed from the ability to have been given strength from him and his freaking music to FEEL shit , be angry , happy, sad, frustrated, desperation, frisky, cocky, and never feeling alone and without someone in that community) I feel all the things that are left unsaid, when I mouth the words alongside with y'all and with ren. It's something to behold. So thank you. Holy shit sorry that comment is like a whole ass book lol.

I gotta say, I takes reaching adulthood to truly appreciate and understand just how superhuman Moms have had to be. Some make it, some don't. Some cope with "new habits"... and sometimes those habits take them over... I don't blame my mother for what she went through. Those were different times and she had to deal with it without access to internet and the general consciousness-raising access we have today. She raised three boys and did alright

Dads are just as super human to lol. I raised my 2 sons as a single father and I worked a full time job at the same time. I would wake up at 05:30 get my boys ready for school, walk them to their Nan's so I could be in work for 06 :30. I would run an average of between 6 to 8 miles and hand load around 2-2.5 ton of recycled waste into the bin wagon I ran because it was a job & knock job. Quicker I finished quicker I got home to do house work before picking my son's up from school.

Love these ladies, I think they’d lose it for How To Be Me. Lots of moms struggle in the transition from independent, carefree women to mothers with the life, safety and well-being of a new tiny little fragile human thrust upon us. It knocks even the strongest person confidence. It’s confusing and really difficult. So most of us can really relate to that one. We often lose ourselves in motherhood and forget who we are and how to be in this new totally life changing role we’ve taken on. It’s an emotional rollercoaster. But eventually we learn we’re still us, just different, if that makes sense.

As a mom, now 18 and 21, I struggled so much when they were little. Every thought every second was eaten up by them. I lost myself and all my energy. I have learned that the greatest thing that I could give my children was a healthy mom. And as far as pushing things down not wanting to upset them because we might be dealing with some thing is the wrong way to go about it. Of course we don’t show that really sad side of when they’re causing it, but seeing us sad or overwhelmed or in tears teaches them to be vulnerable and share their emotions as well and that emotions are a human experience that teach us things and can bring us closer together. It seems like you were all so dedicated to your motherhood and I wouldn’t worry so much. You do what you can every day. But I’ve also learned that sometimes I can ask my daughter for a hug, not always just giving her hugs, but saying “I had a really rough day and a hug from you would really make me feel so much better.” I love seeing you guys react!!! So relatable! ❤🫶🏻☀️🌻✌️😞

All you ladies are lovely. Definitely be nice to have you back. We definitely are sat here thinking, yeah feel those feels, its ok to cry, man or woman. Thats how the healing happens. The libne on this song that always kills me is 'I'm scared of feeling ok, coz all things change' so so so so very true. The more I hear the more I release, its cathartic. Su!cide breaks me but I never knew the trauma I held onto until I heard that song. And yeah we should definitely show our kids its ok to hurt, but how to deal with that hurt is the diffcult bit. If you are angry, punch a punch bag not a person, or yell into a ravine. If you are sad, be sad but go out into nature, hug a tree and feel its magic. If you want to comfort someone make sure to hug them for +20 seconds. Between 10 and 20 seconds you will feel them stiffen after the initial hug as they feel awkward, after 20 seconds they will relax and the healing can begin, no words are needed, just arms. ❤

After listening to this song 100 or so times it just hit me about the line "walk around in the floating chalk outlines". This verse comes after "wash it down and you'll be fine" which means taking a pill, more often than not an antidepressant/SSRI. Chalk Outlines are most frequently associated with being the outline of a dead body, so what I believe he is saying is that the pills essentially make your feelings/emotions, or even ones self dead inside, hence you're walking around in these chalk outlines.
@roberthall9270
@roberthall9270 11 ай бұрын
Yes your exactly right,the meds they give you numb you to the point your emotionally dead inside but just a shell of a person on the outside.its strange to explain as your there but also your not
@ct5625
@ct5625 11 ай бұрын
Yep, it's about that feeling you get from taking those medications that leave you feeling hollow, like a ghost. It's also a play on the fact that most pills are primarily made of chalk, with the drug as the additive. Chalk is inert, chemically inactive, so it's used as the medium to deliver the dose of the compound. And, of course, chalk outlines are traditionally associated with a crime scene (even though that's more of a cinematic thing from the 1950s) That's the beauty of what Ren does though, there are three angles to view the use of chalk in these lyrics, which is what really makes him a poet and not "just" an excellent song writer and lyricist.
@MommaOsoIrish67
@MommaOsoIrish67 9 ай бұрын
That hit me too. "The feeling goes and you draw a chalk outline." As in killing the feeling. But then, "erase ourselves in these chalk outlines." Our eventual disappearance into the absence of feeling ..

It is so interesting that being able to share feelings over music allows us to connect on an emotional and human level. It is the greatest proof that it isn’t problem solving or tools that make us human but rather art, literature, music…. There is a reason they are called the humanities. Social media allowing us to socially share our humanity.

One of the defining moments of motherhood for me was when I was in a low spot with my bipolar. I wasn't being treated right, my marriage was shit, but in front of my kids, I plastered on a smile and did all the things a good mom should do. One day, I was laying on the couch, minding my own business, deep in my depression, and my son, three years old, comes over to me and says, "Mama, why you so sad?" Even now my heart breaks, and it's been 10 years since that happened. Ladies, you can try to hide it, but they will know. They're perceptive little shits. It's better to be open and emotionally engaged and to teach them it's okay to be sad, and that sometimes, our sad is so big we need a doctor's help.

But also maybe show them the fun side of Ren too after you break them with How To Be Me 😂 Discovering Ren’s art for the first time is a beautiful but sometimes very tough experience. He will make you cry, but he can also make us all laugh. We need both. I loved their surprise. They thought you were gonna show them some misogynist insinuating everyday normal songs and were so surprised with the new open and honest you. Also loved how completely protective they were of each other. I mean I think your wife may have knocked you off your chair to hit pause if she would have seen her friends getting overwhelmed. Bradly's (?) balance of checking on Kelsey and reassuring your wife that it was ok was perfection. And for Kelsey to deal with not only her fears and issues that she must be going thru, but being on camera and having to keep reassuring that it was ok to deal with this, was so commendable. It is always our friends reaction to stress on us to protect, and Kelsey was supported and strong, being such an example to others that it's ok to feel, it's ok to be "triggered" and then to even appreciate it enough to say that she will be adding it to her regular listening is brilliant. In this day and age not only is it sometimes assumed men do not feel and are strong, women are to not bring up emotional topics, never complain, and handle everything. By removing anything that would trigger us we don't allow ourselves to process and heal. I hope they all continue to listen and use the familiarity of the pain to get a sense that they are not alone in their struggles and as a way to help understand their feelings, sit with them, and process them because that is the only way to get past them. Oh, and next time maybe say "And would you feel comfortable sharing why?" Your poor wife caught in the headlights when you were just like, "na, it's ok, we're open books now." Baby steps tho, you did great in navigating what was a walking on eggshells couple of moments.

It is so amazing that you and your wife can talk about tough stuff together but that you can say it in front of the world just shows youve both been through together and you came out the other side together! And brother, the way you look at her is all I need to see to the quality of your character! You two are good folks for sure!

"Losing babies." 😞 This reaction has probably been one of the better examples of how Ren's music reaches people. Loved having these three on, their experiences as mothers and friends have been a good watch.

Your wife seems like a truly amazing person. From how strong she seems, from how much we know she's been through as a mother to the care she shows to her friends, constantly checking to see if they're ok during this emotional reaction. I'm sure she's an amazing mom, a super supportive friend and a rock of a partner.

Good choice. Kids need to know that being sad is ok too. You can demonstrate it in healthy ways. How it too can pass. These ladies need Fingers live.

You need to bring these back for more Ren and/or Chinchilla. I think having your wife on here with you brings out a different side to you. Im sure both of you opening up together will make you even closer.

I think as a man being stoic is not about never ever showing emotion and vulnerability. But it's about not letting whatever you feel dictate your actions. And always act with thoughtfulness and logic. A hard thing to do....
