I’ve been a leather crafter for over 25 years. If it says anything but “full-grain” or “top-grain” leather, chances are that it’s fake. “PU leather” and “Vegan leather” - not to be confused with veg-tan - are vinyl. “Genuine leather” is made from leather dust mixed with glue, rolled flat, and a vinyl top layer applied (it is literally trash). Many cheap leather goods from the Middle East and Asia are made with goat leather. Typically - even though it is actual leather - the quality is poor, the leather is really thin, and it often smells terrible due to the way it’s tanned. In short, quality leather is more costly so if it looks like a screaming deal, chances are high that it’s not worth buying.

Expected a super niche fountain pen tool, but was pleasantly surprised the topic followed the thumbnail. Attainable storage has been on my mind with the ever-increasing pen collection.

I only have 'starter' pens right now, and I house the inked ones in a Luddite Liberator Cordura Round Zip Pen Case - long pockets protect the bodies of my Metropolitans, and my Preppys, Kakunos, and Sports fit nicely in the opposing mesh pockets. Would love to upgrade my pen case game someday, I like the look of the leather and magnet cases a lot, but the pen roll has a certain nostalgic feel as well!

I was surprised and excited to see that this video was about pen storage. I sewed myself a couple cases when I started the hobby this past November (one for upstairs, one for downstairs). I couldn't imagine throwing them all in a pencil case after spending $6-35 per pen!

For long term storage I’ve ended up preferring boxes for my storage. The galen leather pen and ink storage boxes are very nice. The only problem is they like a lot of storage can’t hold a Ranga Model 5. When I ordered a Santini Giant 8 I decided to find something that would fit it and the model 5s and picked up a Toyooka Craft box and it has been great! I usually have a couple single pens sleeves and a three pen sleeve or two for my currently inked.

I haven’t ever used a pen roll before but now I’m going to have to take a closer look!

Pen storage is vital to the hobby. I currently have a cigar box that I need to add some slots in. Love the various design options they have to offer. Thanks for going through all the options! My EDC is a Nock Sinclair with a 2 pen coozy from Rickshaw.

Right now I'm using old eyeglass cases, a small bamboo box I think came with some cooking spoons and spatulas, and a hand made ceramic pot I found at the thrift store, and my felt lined desk drawer and it's organizer.

I love my pens. I got some rectangular frames for pictures, took off the glass, covered the back with fabric that shows off the pens and put some round draw handles to hold the pens in parallel and put them up on the wall. Its a great way to store them in display.

I love what you do with found items like cigar boxes! I do that sort of thing myself. And, yes, I did start with coffee cups. I have to say that trying to get the roll right reminds me of rolling up my sleeping bag after a camp.

I’m still at the DIY storage stage since funds are limited and I’m concentrating on pens, ink and paper! I did pick up a large zippered pen case made of synthetic materials. Cheap, Unaesthetic BUT functional. But, I found I stopped using the pens if they were tucked away. So, I just have my current inked ones nestled in an empty old leather zippered desk planner. They are resting on a piece of leather cut from an old leather pocket book and fitted inside the planner. I can fit about 6 pens which is about how many I ink at one time. When not picking out a pen, I simply close the planner as far down as it will naturally go without pressure on the pens. I wish I could figure out how to take the center binder rings out of it without destroying the spine. I don’t have any portable-on-the-go storage yet! So no fancy pen leaves the house. Just a preppy in my pocketbook! Ah well, life’s a challenge! Thanks for the video. Love your honesty and well informed videos as always! 🙋‍♀️❤️🖋

I don't have a lot of storage options yet, but my favorite so far is the Rickshaw Sinclair, which I asked to have done as a 3x3 (no additional cost). That means there are 6 individual pen slots in the interior, 3 on either side. Then, a duo pen sleeve fits in the center and is a buffer between the sides. There is also an outside pocket that can fit several pens or a small notebook. The interior is plush and very kind to your pens.

The cigar boxes look fantastic! I was so desperate that I made my own pen sleeve out of fabric and polyester batting. The stitchery is askew, but at least it's functional.

It's always fun to watch your videos, you have quickly become my favorite pen youtuber because of the amount of detail you go into in your videos and the way you voice your videos.

At the moment I just store my pens underneath my monitor. On the go I clip the pen to a notebook and throw it in my bag. I was actually looking around for a storage solution, so thanks for this video!

But I'm thinking about getting a pen roll case like those oh so very well made Esterbrook. Awesome video! I bet you could have some fun with a diy insert for the beautiful cardboard box that the pen rolls came in. It certainly wouldn't be a travel case, but maybe a stationary case for extra pens. My personal favorite is a Galen leather 3 pen holder. It comes with a flap, similar to your fake leather case. No magnets, which works for me. I take it everywhere and fits perfect in my bag and even some shirt and pant pockets. Even works great on the plane. Before take off I take the case out of my bag and drop it in the seat pouch in front of your seat. Face up of course. After landing I grab my pen case and I'm on my way. Love your videos!

I have a bunch of cases, too. My current fave is the Galen leather 5 pen zippered case because you can carry an A6 notebook inside and it is very compact.

I love storage and organization videos of any kind! I also started with some cheap options to start but then I got a Rickshaw roll for my nicer pens that are inked up and just fell in love! Thank you for sharing especially from a fellow Canadian! I really enjoy your thoughts on fountain pens!

I use hard shell spectacles cases for my couple of Lamy safaris in different nib sizes and a vintage Montblanc slimline which was given to me when it wound up in my sister's purse after a bad date in the 80s.

The penrolls look gorgeous! So far I have a large knitted pen roll, and a 3 pen galen that I love. Definitely makes the fountain pen experience more personal and tactile to find a storage method that resonates with you. Good luck to all!
