just for anyone who was wondering what they were saying 1.It's really fun to be able to change the direction of rotation by myself. 2.I understand what you're saying, but if you look at the top, it's definitely clockwise.

Cool optical illusion: Your brain prefers to see the tornado from the top-down, with the front of the tornado moving to the left and the back moving to the right. If you focus and relax your perception a bit, you can convince your brain that you're viewing the tornado from the bottom-up, with the front moving to the right and the back moving to the left. In both cases, you should think of the tornado moving clockwise, but in the bottom-up view, it's moving clockwise as viewed from the bottom; as viewed from the top, it's now going the other way. Trick: cover the bottom of the tornado so you can only see a few of the spinning beads at the top. Convince yourself that you're looking at the underside of a plate that is above you, and that these beads are moving to the right when they are close to you, and to the left when they are far. Gradually uncover the rest of the tornado.

This reminds me of a good piano exercise actually. Play a single-octave scale with both hands, but at the end play one extra note on the right hand and repeat. So the right hand is offset by a note. Repeat this you get chaos, then contrary motion, then chaos, then back to unison.
