What is the back story to the Penefrancia? I had to do some reading for this but I got together the basics and set off to see where it all happens - the church, shrine, the route, the fluvial procession...I combined my love of cycling, history and the Philippines into one blog to discover Naga City's religious past and learn about Bicol's most revered religious festival in Camarines Sur

Very informative video on Peñafrancia fiesta and its history! The Traslacion procession in the past few years were actually faster. In previous years the procession took longer. By the way, the procession route stills goes farther up that road, up to Plaza Quince Martirez (15 martyrs) then goes back to Cathedral. Have a nice day!

@@geordiejeff you are welcome! The City Government of Naga has a livestream coverage of last year’s (kzfaq.info4pAoAPQuDXU?si=Y2daDLO_jyo3PZdC) but upon quick review they seem to not have a farther shot to show the street. ☺️ Have a nice day!

Did you know that Bicol is the most Catholic region in the Philippines. Almost 95% of Biolanos are Catholics as per latest census. Bicol also is second in terms of Filipino with dominant Spanish blood as per studies conducted and paid by Spanish government, more or less 20% of Bicolanos.

@@geordiejeff Bicol is second to Zamboanga City when it comes to Hispanic heritage..although Zamboanga City is smaller in terms of population if you were to compare it against a region like Bicol. No surprise why many Bicolano s are devout Catholics.
