Your point on side missions is a little misleading for people who haven’t played the game. If you use the spider man app there are much more involved side missions.

I actually disagree with some of this review, the side missions and little spider man app things were really fun and actually developed the characters.

The “side missions” that you referred to are collectables, the side missions were the things on your in game phone (not sure if you saw these as part of the main story)

I think the game immediately revealing who the identities of the villains are is a really good thing. We already know Aaron is the Prowler. The first time you meet the new villain you can guess who it is. I’m just glad the game doesn’t waste any time building it up and instead focuses on the character drama of the reveals rather than the reveals themselves.

I usually agree with your ratings but not on this one, you somehow got collectible items confused with side missions and didn’t do any side missions, which for me make the game. They really make you FEEL like a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, all memes aside.

This is my favorite game of all time because of the length… it’s not too long so it doesn’t get dragged out with boring unnecessary missions and the story also isn’t too complex and boring. Since it’s a game that can be finished in a quick period of time it’s just so replayable compared to most games because often I find myself getting bored in replays.

The "side missions" you mentioned were the collectibles, training challenges and random crimes. The actual side missions were pretty good, definitely improved a lot from the first game.

Half the enjoyment of these Spider-Man games is the side content, doing the bases, solving crimes as they happen etc. Things like saving the cat to unlock the extra suits fleshes out the world substantially

I really like the side missions and collectibles, if you do the time capsules and underground side missions before the end of the story you feel a lot closer to the underground’s goals and phyn.

I actually found the record tapes really interesting as I really liked looking for the sounds and hearing The Prowler go on about him and Miles's father living as brothers and it was just super interesting to me and the reward was really cool.

This game while being short, gave me a surprisingly high level of emotion at the end.

The new Spider Man is so moist I dove into the Hudson River and came back out stinking like bodies and old feet just to watch this.

I understand your argument about the side missions however, the side missions are reminiscent of the original Spiderman game. That goes for most open world games. However, throughout the game, you can access and accept missions through the “Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman” app. Those side missions are very unique and diverse compared to the Mixtape and Time Capsule missions. Not to mention, there is a full length side story that follows a character from the last game, Kingpin, and his behind the scene influence on the people of Harlem. In terms of the story being quick, it was and I did have plenty of issues with how The Tinkerer and her story was handled. I have to argue, though, that it fit Miles better for things to be on a smaller, much quicker scale. He’s a starting hero, so saving all of New York from aliens or a deadly bio weapon wouldn’t have made any sense. Your overall judgment was fair and I have no complaints about the rating it received, though I would ask that you explore a bit more of the finer elements of what was introduced in this game. Especially the quests that you’re given through the in-game app. They make the area that you play in feel more authentic and alive rather than a cardboard cutout of a city in New York. Maybe this is just me being a sucker for Spiderman and eating up whatever leftovers Marvel decides to throw my way, but I do think that this game deserves a bit of a closer inspection. Charlie, the actual "side" missions are so much more fleshed out than the ones you did, which were only collectibles, the real ones have animated cutscenes, stories, and last a couple dozen minutes each

This game wasn't advertised as a full length game. It's a bone they decided to throw us while waiting for spider-man 2. I understand the weight you can't feel behind it if you aren't a pre big miles morales fan going into it. I had the exact opposite experience with missions and story as you. Was extremely invested and loved it as I have grown with these characters through the comics

They hinted at a potential dlc at the end, so maybe a couple more hours of play when they add it.

I never thought I would disagree with Jesus but I personally loved this game.

Just FYI: there are quite a few actual “side missions” that actually have multiple parts and a little story and I found them fairly enjoyable.

It felt a lot longer than 5 and a half hours to me and I only did a few of the side missions and never had to start over until the final boss. It was like an oversized Marvel movie with the best setpiece being the opener. I'd guess it's closer to 8 or 9 hours not 6. It was not over as fast as the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. I was satisfied when the credits rolled. Didn't think there was much more they could have done with the story.

There are side quests like helping people in the neighborhood, looking for missing cats while fighting bad guys etc, it's really not boring tho
