The drummer in the video is Morgan Sansous, check out his channel:
/ @morgansansous3889
This is a re-upload of his "Brutal Death Drummer" video because the channel it was originally uploaded to was deleted.
He plays SONOR GIANT STEP TWIN EFFECT PEDALS and uses DDRUM Red Shot triggers on a Roland TD20 trigger interface.
Slow-motion foot cam:
• morgan giant step slow...
This is a tech demo and is filmed to show how fast he can play. Check out his band "Henker".
Quote: "I can get about 600 bpm 16th notes, maxim for the moment."
He rarely uses the full potential of the pedals but if he does, it creates a very cool effect in the music.
Support Henker on Facebook:

The Outro Song:
• Henker - Slave Of My A...

I'm quite aware of how they work and have in fact used a pare and they are the lamest thing anyone can do why would anyone want to use those shit ass pedals and fake there own speed? Those things double there users normal speed. I stand strong saying that this guy is no where near good enough to be praised as many people have been praising him. If he was really good why doesn't he just use a normal double pedal? Oh yeah that's right because he can only go half the speed. Not hating on his playing just hating on the fact that he uses quad pedals.....

@109309135991684084465 I think you're confusing these pedals with the Dualist pedals, they work differently.. Go inform yourself and you'll feel ashamed by your comment. Those 32nd-note rolls create a stable tone, specifically an E1 note (the lowest note of a bass guitar), which, in my opinion, kind of defeats the purpose of the bass drum; it takes the "punchiness" of the bass drum and turns it into a light tone that can easily be replicated by a bass guitar, which is extremely impractical. Nevertheless, this is a great demonstration of the quad pedals and the technique used to play them.

I love it! Henker is one of the better death metal bands in its genre, also the use of the quadruple speeds are used only to climax song parts, the fact that the speed is so high that it almost because a normal sound wave is exceptionally creative, as with a lot of things, there is no cheating in music except to playback it.

Some amazingly IGNORANT comments posted here. And by that I mean musically ignorant. Coming from my perspective of music as a classical and jazz pianist (I used to play death metal as a drummer) all this talk of doing the most BPM (beats per minute) is laughable. Music is not a sport, nor a competition, thus there is not really any way to "cheat" as a musician. Cheating would be this guy claiming he could play this speed with regular double bass. It is clearly stated that it is quadruple bass- for every 1 stroke of the foot, 2 strokes are heard. So you can play 8th notes with 1 foot but 16th notes will be heard. I can see this invention being useful to single bass drum players. But the 32nd note rolls he does sound too machine like to ever be of musical value, except maybe as a joke. Being a musician is not for cock-measuring. It is for making music. People in the metal community, especially drummers, need to stop putting the quality the music at 2nd place and stop placing their egos first.
@RonnieJamesDio666
@RonnieJamesDio666 9 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. Music isnt a competition. This dude is fast as fuck, which is cool! Dont get me wrong its NOT easy to just fly and play "random" sounding notes keeping time and creating the sound you want. But youre also right in the fact that this could never be appreciated 100% musically. Would you drive down the road with this playing through your radio just because its a "catchy" tune? No way and if you say yes, you must like the sound of two cats fighting in the street at night as well. Again, its very incomprehensible and his speed is ABSOLUTELY REMARKABLE, even with four pedals, but its just not musically appreciable.
@bebop8884

"for every 1 stroke of the foot, 2 strokes are heard" - wrong.
@GusFogle
@GusFogle 9 жыл бұрын
Abc Xyz Explain how I am wrong. One foot can play 8th notes, but due to the function of the pedal and the way it is designed, 16th notes are heard. There are 2 beaters on each pedal, alternating in such a way that for every down-stroke played, an up-stroke will be played by the other beater, hence for each stroke played by the foot, 2 notes are played. Hence the term, "quadruple bass" rather than "double bass". Merry Christmas by the way.

Gus Fogle Maybe you are thinking of the Dualist pedal? This guy here is playing Sonor Twin Effect pedals. Twin Effect pedals have two individually operable pedals and beaters on each standard pedal frame. One is operated in the normal manner, the other with the heel. He is playing four pedals at once. Happy holidays.

@GrumpyGrebo
@GrumpyGrebo 9 жыл бұрын
To explain the "buzzing" noise, due to the need for triggers (the skin of the bass drum does not rebound quickly enough to catch the super fast notes) and thus compression, the high frequencies 5ms or so at the start of the trigger sample are quickly layered on top of each other, to the extent where you end up with a continuous stream of said high frequencies being retriggered and effectively you end up listening to the bass drum sample extended into infinity. Which changes the noise to this buzzing sound you can here. FYI triggers; he still has to HIT the notes in some form, to play the sample. Admittedly triggered drums are way easier to quantize, program in manually afterwards etc but the video appears to correlate with the shown speedblasts. However, they are no different to professional kits that mic each drum for example... in these pro setups you don't actually hear each drum but the signal processed version. Most drum kits are not sufficient quality to eliminate unnecessary dirty noise which degrades the final quality of any studio mixes so this technique is employed. Yes, EVERYBODY USES TRIGGERS! And everybody on KZfaq is a drummer ofc.

YES. Sometimes when im bummed out or bored I type blast beat or double pedal or something into the search bar because I find it so satisfying. This I found totally delicious. Your sticking was great, didnt care about the triggers (as i usually do) and loved the way you were on the edge of exhaustion and struggling at times. I think that is actually a good thing as it add a human struggle element to the feel. Thus Pete Sandoval for me is the king of the blast beat. Because his are slightly flawed, a bit groovy and not too robotic (like SO many deathcore/metal/whatever drummers in the last 7 years). Peace and fucking

That's just plain cool. The bass drums were humming sine waves, not individual notes. Sounded like he managed between 80 and 100Hz in some spots.

triggered my friend...triggered not actually playing the quad beats when they come in. Don't you think he would be like a legend in drumming if he could actually do that without any triggers. His legs and feet are not moving any faster when the quad beats come in. I mean... come on man the double beats are not 100 percent on time but then all of a sudden the quad beats are perfectly timed? why is that? triggered!
@solenkeks
@solenkeks 7 жыл бұрын
triggering isn't what make his double bass notes sound "on time". His playing is. He does use quadruple pedals that I don't really agree with as it essentially doubles the speed of his playing.

BAD TO THE BONE it never fails to amaze me and the human potential we as artist are capable of. What's so impressing to me is you can listen to this guy do a song solo four or five times in a row with a few other people all of you couldn't even come close to being able to determine if he missed even one strike, beat, crash,yet he knows with up to 98% accuracy were and when if he even did miss one strike or one beat. What's cool is a guy that's really working it hard, focusing, he is gona learn and improve on each and every strike beat tom and crash and song practice i mean the sky is the limit. Obviously humans do have limits ones that stretch us as far as we can go physicaly until there isn't room for anything more take push pull. But the biggest limits are our own put on us from others and from our selfs then we back off and power down roll over give up stand for a little less we dont make challenging obstacles, then you take this guy for example I don't know how old he is or how long he has been playing my guess is at least 8-12yrs but if you went back 4 yrs and compared his talents as of now to his talents back then we would almost say no way at all he isnt gona improve to much its just not gona happen we just dont practice and work hard enough even for the most skilled and talented individuals we Simply tendto think talent like that is just to rare people like that are 1 in 2,000,000.00 and we will more than likely never meet one of thoes few around they are to spread apart and hard to find. I played drums for 15yrs and even 7yrs in it was still the late 90s early 00s and then it was harder to study, research, explore, watch videos, find any and all music videos, check out imports, rare single, demos, b sides, box sets, lyrics, music sheets, all the shit that we forgot wasn't always there for us and we wouldn't even know how to use a fucking phone with out pre-programed #s due to how spoiled we are now days and I wouldn't even have been able to find a bunch of material to study from to compare, learn, listen,watch videos, all of that way of life that really gave us a better and much more of a personal even intimate relationship with our music is gone I mean I still remember the first time I heard SLAYER I died I just I remember thinking ride the lightning is bad ass and I still love it but this is the hardest heaviest crushing accident causing blaring it a full volume on you old school CB / P.A. system doin 90 on the free way in a 73 F-100 ranger short box thinking how you used to blare Stephen wolf's born to be wild and Sabbaths Pariniod in truck was now gona sound like Quiere music at Sunday churh compared to this shit and I was just so blown away I said then that's it we have it nothing can beat this stuff coming then sepultura then obituary and six feet under came out after the shit with cannibal corpse and it still gets better but I back then would have said what this guys doin isn't possible give it up were here we got the best we can do then I remember mastadon and Sumerian records came out and got some bands going and getting music out soul fly devil driver cavelira conspiracy jinger so it's just all so amazing and I just submerged my self in all stuff CD the booklets you not just a i-pod or some burnt cds and we are losing a lot of potential and missing the real positive atmosphere that breeds the next Chris Adler, Chris Barnes, Toni iomnis and Randy blithe of the future just to name a few

People bitching about the quad peddles. He bought it, he’s having fun with it. His title and description doesn’t imply “best drummer ever” not is he competing with anyone. A musical instrument is exactly what it is, an instrument. Nobody complains when Jared Dines pulls out the 18 string joke guitar, because he’s having fun in the video. Besides, this dudes drum kit is some top notch shit. Love the way he has his cymbals set up. Creative

Yea triggers aren't used for drum speed. They are used for amplifying the drum sound. Which makes the clicking sound on a drum track.

man there were some totally kick ass fills and ride techniques I loved, but it was overshadowed by the ridiculousness of the pedals. I can appreciate fast kick, but George kolias does a good job with only 2 and adds a lot more variety to his music. I think this skill is cool, but its more a party trick than an actually tool to be utilized in music, and I doubt anyone will see it more than that. my advice: tone it down and if you really want to be famous, work on technicality and variety and I hope I hear your work on the next big death metal record.
