I think the main issue with this trick is that it’s “too good”. The match box card makes it worse, almost, because it means the trick had to be a force, and since penn and teller were given free choice to select a card, that really the only place to make the trick work is inside the box, which was basically an unjustified step between the selection and the reveal, otherwise. I think it’s a neat gimmick, but the plot of the trick needs some work, imo.

One of these days some magician is going to use this as a ruse to fool them. Basically a difficult extra trick thrown in there just to make a free choice look like a force and throw them off. Magic is, after all, misdirection!
@matapichones
@matapichones Ай бұрын
the main issue is how blatantly anticlimactic they decided the show should be for the sake of performers in the same league as ventriloquists and mimes. the genius parts of illusions are sleight of hand, misdirection, and their design and construction. other than that, it's like pro-wrestling when they used to never break character and insist it was all real and not a performance.

That was a fabulous trick. I have no idea how it was done but there were two areas where it appeared he was switching things. One came just after he took the small box from Teller, you can tell just after the match drops out that the box is not clear on the side facing the table because what looked like afolded up card was in fact just a picture of a folded up card with the match concealed behind it. When he tilted the box the picture fell forward (6:12, see? you can't see through the bottom facing the table and one edge of the picture is actually bent up a tiny bit) and the match fell out. He then moved to remove the picture with his left hand and showed the box to be perfectly clear while he dumped the fake card. The other move came as he opened the card that was in the match box but was not as obvious as the first move with Teller. How he got the two Kings from the cards Penn and Teller handled is WAY beyond my comprehension, especially since Penn added another card to his stack on his second thought! It was a wonderful trick but I think Penn and Teller both spotted him concealing and dumping the card from Teller's box and pulling the matchstick out of Penns box revealing only the card, which was enough to call the trick busted. I have subscribed because the trick was very impressive, especially knowing you made this up yourself! Quite creative!

Although am sadly surprised that although you have been here since 2016, it took me so long! (May 2024). I subscribed right after you clarified that your handle is inspired by the thought that tricks (magic); are a rather useless talent. I subscribed, because (as someone from India) I felt that the Hindi film industry (Bollywood) might actually be up there in uselessness.. but they are so pompous.. while you have so matter of fact owned the reality. It was an amazing routine. I wish i would be at some conventions or shows that you are at, but now I hardly travel. Maybe someday you might fancy being in hot, humid dusty tropical regions.. where nearly a quarter of the Homo sapiens are packed like sardines.

In his mind because he's never seen it or copied it he created it, just like multiple people invented the telephone and radio before Bell and Marconi working on their own but only 2 guys got them patented, marketed... but 99.99 percent of magic has been done and sometimes not known (trade secret) or old and obscure, there's literally thousands of books on just card magic... some out of print. .. but if you're a magician I'm preaching to the quoir lol

Because if you forget that, then, my friend, _your_ friend....... *_our friend_* , will hover close-by where you're at to watch for several days, on what you're doing. He is a floater, and hovers around. He peeks in with an eye every now and then through windows. He will follow. Ignore him. Do not interact. You can say hi. Just do your thing. It is okay to close the blinds, yet I wouldn't recommend. Fifty Fifty. It's wayyyyyyy over-done. The 3 day penalty isn't too bad. (I wouldn't flag this comment; it is most likely cursed by now.) Just FYI, don't fuk wit them, and they don't fuk with you. If you try retaIiation, ... I've never seen the result of such. 7:01 to 8:00 I have seen this part of the clip once, and will watch only once. I don't like this routine, sorry. Why? Because it gives us an amazing premise that those guys are free to screw up the whole trick, but then Sean Ridgeway leads them in a way that they're not allowed to do those. It's a subtle agreement between them as they explain what it is "screwing up the trick". If they were to not follow they're positioned as sociopaths even :D They were not allowed completely. Remember Penn saying "We're good at that!" If they would be free to do such a thing we would be watching a completely different performance here. Yes, it's magical but the flow is just disappointing to me. After creating and destroying that expectation, it's really hard to make this an amazing performance. It might be a great routine, but I think that part needs changing.

The business with the match in a matchbox (to justify a lame pun) was unnecessary and an annoying distraction. The folded up card at the end (if there must be a folded up card) shouldn't be unfolded by the magician. The trick itself was just okay, but nowhere near the standard viewers have come to expect from magicians appearing on P&T. Was it really the best trick he could come up with to perform on one of the most prestigious and widely watched TV shows in the world? If so, it was a wasted opportunity, in my opinion. He could have done something spectacular, and even if it didn't fool P&T, it would have had a bigger impact on the audience, and people would have remembered it.
