The "Penny Wise Copper Penny Miser ™" coin sorter
An automated hand crafted device designed to conveniently, accurately,
and quickly sort through and separate copper pennies from zinc pennies.
It sorts at the rate of 3000 pennies per hour.
Because copper pennies are worth a lot more than zinc pennies and definitely more than a penny.

I have been separating by hand using dates and a small scale. 3.1 grams for copper any thing less is zinc. I wish I had one of those machines!

I really like your invention. You are OWN on the system. I hope you invent one with a giant hopper or holding tank that you dont have to reload all the time. If you did it like that you could tell all these too bad its slow people to go fly a kite because it works when I am not around. Do they stare at their laundry while its in the machine washing or do they watch the paint dry? Its working while you live. Its kind of like a farmer planting seeds and standing fast waiting for harvest. lol

It's much faster than using a magnifying glass and a good light to visually sort them.

I had to stare at this video a bit as at first I thought the dumper was some kinda fancy solenoid being triggered by load cell, A to D, and a solid state switch.. Then I realized it's a pretty tricky little fulcrum calibrated with washers and nuts. Very Cool! Is the rotating disc made of fancy delron or is it just a fashioned lid off a paint bucket? I'm going to take a swag at making one of these.

I'm sorry but I don't make them anymore. Maybe when they start making nickles out of aluminum, I'll make a version for nickles. Nickles are (75% copper/25%nickle) It might be wise to start saving nickles?

Its really not that slow compared to hand sorting. imo. and ive done alot of hand sorting

Whats the RPM for that motor?

This was a car windshield wiper DC gear motor. With a 9 volt battery it goes about 9 RPMs which is what you are seeing. At 6 volts (4Xaa batteries) it would slow down to 4.5 RPM Sorry. it took me so long to answer. Please forgive me.
