Күн бұрынPenrhyn, also known as Tongareva is the largest and northernmost atoll of the Cook Islands. Penrhyn's lagoon, 275 square kilometres in area, dwarfs its surrounding motu, which total only six square kilometres. Its isolation, lack of resources and infrastructure, and declining population of around 200, make it a very difficult and expensive place to visit. However, on the other hand being so isolated and having a small population has allowed nature to thrive giving locals the option to be totally subsistent as the land provides more than enough food to go around. This video of Penrhyn gives a little insight into what this beautifully wild island has to offer.

@Code901 Did you managed to get to Penrhyn? If yes, are there places a tourist could stay - sleep and eat? Aitutaki is easy, I've already been there a couple of years ago. But Penrhyn and Pukapuka are both still waiting in my bucket list.

Ahhh.. A paradise island where you get to kill the fish, chop open the coconuts, spear sharks, rip up the trees and decimate the shellfish.

Actually only 200 people live on Penrhyn, an atoll with the biggest lagoon in the pacific. They recycle everything and waster nothing. The environmental impact is minimal and certainly less than that of those of us who live in towns and cities.

@@rockycartmaker9327 In Cook Islands archipelago may be. In the Pacific there are way much more larger lagoons /Rangiroa, Fr. Polynesia; Chuuk lagoon, FSM, etc./
