Matt, the one you thought was taking up a square just doing nothing , well he keeps the bass line going through the whole song. And works with Kevin supporting the beat. He is so important, gives the arrangement weight and stability and anchors the music so it doesn’t sound all over the place. Believe me, Matt is doing a lot. Try listening to a whole song only focused on the lowest sounds and you’ll hear what I mean. Great reaction!

Absolutely correct! Especially with headphones you should be able to hear him clearly all the way through the song... that "bass guitar" or "standup bass" rhythm line woven in with Kevin's percussion is the heart and soul of any rock, jazz, or R&B song, and Matt was absolutely killing it with his bass line. Just because he's not getting in on the main vocal harmonies, don't underestimate the importance of that solid bass line he's laying down.

They made this while on lockdown in separate locations. Amazing!

Search with your ear the lowest voice in the song. This is what Matt was doing. He was humming. Humming(base) is more important than you think.

Matt was doing the Bass throughout the whole song. The fact that you didn't seem to notice shows just how good he is. (Or that you are VERY green when it comes to acapella)

Hoo boy, Tank. You opened a whole can of worms when you made that remark about Matt. Pentaholics are VERY protective of their guys (and gal). Another reactor once made a remark that Mitch could be replaced by some Filipino singer with a high register and they still haven't found some of his body parts. Luckily, they are gentle folks at heart so you might escape with just a flesh wound. LOL.

Matt was doing the bass throughout the whole song. Trust me, even if you didn't necessarily notice he was doing it, you would know if he wasn't doing his job, because the song wouldn't sound right :).

They are in lockdown like all of us should be. Mitch has always been with the group. Pentatonix rotates leads watch any of them. No he sung, Matt is a professional too he doesn’t just make faces.

the entire EP(called "At Home") was arranged, recorded and the music videos filmed during lockdown - they're all filming at their own houses! they were never in the same room when working on this ep - it was done through zoom! ETA: They guy you were talking about towards the end - that's Matt, and he's doing the bass throughout the song. Believe me - it would be very flat without him. He was doing a lot more than "just smiling"! Check out their newest video (uploaded earlier today) - he has a solo in that one.

They just dropped when the parties over this morning. Remember Kevin is doing all of the beats himself and matt is doing the baseline. When they recorded the song they couldn't even hear each other's parts so I think the harmonies are amazing for that fact alone.

The bass is not pulled forward in the video but if you listen, the man smiling carries the bass underneath everything going on throughout the entire song. He didn't get a moment to shine but he provided a foundation that the rest of it built on. He had two moments that he shined in but they might have slipped past you. In the very beginning he brings in a really great vocal bass swell before everything drops. It sounds really cool and Clubby. He also does a slide but that could be lost with Kevin's beatboxing being forward in this number. The song would have been very flat without that understated but present bass line underneath everything going on and I absolutely love this number even when compared with other numbers they've done with all the technology at their disposal. This song makes me happy and it makes me want to dance and I love Mitch's hurts when he is a soloist throughout the entire song. And they recorded their parts without being able to hear each other at all. They met as a group to do the arrangements and give what they wanted visually for each number over Zoom. But each person is at their home in lockdown and had to learn the program they were going to be using to record on as well as which equipment they had to buy for how their own voice is recorded by the people who know what they're doing when they go to Studio. There were no vocal producers present to tell them what they wanted them to sounds like or change up when they were recording. So they found stuff that was in their own homes to create each set that you see in each box, and had to find a way to set up lighting which got quite creative such as Scott somehow putting a blanket over his head that isn't visible for one video to block out the overhead skylight. Then they put their iPhones on tripods and recorded their own part. Next each person electronically sent their recording to their producer Ben Bram to put it together. This project is supposed to give people a sense of normalcy even though we're all on lockdown just like they are and they put together an entire EP done this way. They just released their version of when the party's over and there are no visible acrobatics but the vocals and the emoting are stellar. I think it's great that these people, that could just sit back on the money they've already made, still want to work and they want to make their fans feel a sense of normalcy and feel so Joy for just a little bit to know that yes they're still there and music is still being made. One thing I has it been torn down yet in our country. I love this entire project and it gave me something positive look forward to as they release a new video each Wednesday from the EP titled "at home". Thank you so much for reacting!

😩MATT IS NOT JUST MAKING FACIAL EXPRESSIONS!! He is doing THE BASS!! LISTEN CLOSELY now! Scott, Kirstie and Mitch are singing or doing the harmonies! Kevin is beatboxing Matt provides the bass!! He doesn't necessarily NEED TO OPEN HIS MOUTH!! He is making that deep bass sound or bass notes or sing lyrics in bass notes depending on what is needed for the song!!!😌 Avi the original bass does the same thing!!

To sing the bass line, Matt doesn't always actually need to have his mouth open. But the bass was all through the song.

The mullet’s been gone since February, this was filmed in their homes in June. It’s amazing what they can do even when they are not in the same room

If you haven't seen their video from a couple of weeks ago called HOME, you should take a look. It's a fun listen plus you get to see inside each person's home. See if you can pick out Kevin doing a little flexing in his spots.

They had a large learning curve. If problems with equipment occurred or hair and makeup. They had to do it all from individual home settings. Some songs you can see there Grammy’s in the background.

Wtih Matt, he does do the bass for the group but he rarely sings the words because he uses his voice more like a bass guitar. I know it's hard to see him actually do stuff but trust me, he's still making sounds LOL

I understand what you mean at the end, about them setting the standard so high. And remember that when you started reacting to them, you watched their very best work first, so it's only natural if somewhere along the way, you'll feel underwhelmed by some of their other work. This song is my least favorite of the new EP (but I still like it!) and I do think the other five are better than this one.
