I've said it before and I stand by it. Pentatonix is the only acceptable way to do Christmas all year. Their music is much more than JUST Christmas music, and almost every PTX fan listens to their Christmas music all year long.

This is also known as the Breathe Mitch! song. Feel free to react to Christmas songs any time of the year. As a Pentaholic it is in the bylaws (section 12.25)😄 that you have to listen to Pentatonix Christmas songs any day of the year.

I'm one of those Pentatonix fans who listens to their Christmas music all year round. I love it, so, why would I wait until November or December to listen when I can listen all year? I am amazed by Mitch's breath control. They are all incredible. Thank you for the great reaction.

Hello Saeed, This one should be called "When does Mitch breathe?" Amazing vocal control by Mitch at the beginning and of course just astounding singing and vocalizations by all five of them and that beat boxing by Kevin is always superb. They performed this live at Brigham Young University Christmas Under the Stars in 2021 (almost 10 years after the music video) and it was perfection. For more PTX Christmas Classics - Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (a song with no lyrics, performed by a band with no instruments - that won them a Grammy); O Holy Night (2023 version); God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen; O Come All Ye Faithful; Christmas Time Is Here; I Saw Three Ships A Sailing (audio only). Pentaholics love PTX Christmas music all year round so keep reacting to PTX Christmas music. Non-Christmas recommendations - "Problem'; "Somebody That I Used To Know" and "No" (live version please). Thanks for the reaction!

This performance showcased the experience and training The Trio and especially Avi had in school and college choirs, doing madrigals, which is a favorite style of vocal music nerds around the world. The bass part is particularly complex, weaving in and out, up and down. Skill.

This one is such a pleasure to listen to any time of the year! This is very early PTX. They talk in some interview about when they made this video, they had very little money, they were hiking out to try to find some waterfalls for a background. They were carrying a heavy generator with them. Never found the waterfalls, so ended up stopping here and did it. Scott is enough taller than the others that they had him standing in a little hole in the ground so he was more on the level with the others.

I wish that the recent live version of this from a BYUtv Christmas special from a few years ago was still available for viewing! It is my favorite version of this, as you can really see that Mitch NEVER takes an actual breath through his mouth for a VERY long section because he is incorporating a circular breathing technique, and it is amazing. And it’s live, so……. 🔥👏🏻🤯💜 This is one of their best arrangements, and I forget about it, for some reason. Kevin is just a BOSS in this with his percussion. Fun fact: Scott is standing in a hole so that he doesn’t look so much taller than the others 😁.

As I have said before...Mitch has to be an alien. He never takes a breath while singing this. I have seen them perform this live and he doesn't breathe!!! The only explanation is that he is an alien 👽... Great reaction as always! Love watching your videos. Have you reacted to Gold yet? That is a live performance of them sitting on stage with mics. It is stellar. Mitch does another amazing performance in this one. He does what the original singer cannot do. Thanks again dude!!! You are awesome! Sending you love from Texas!!❤❤

In today's world I have noticed that modern forms of music are considered superior to folk music. Most people look down upon folk music as being primitive. If you ask me, it is the primitive forms of music that speak most directly to the soul. 12 year old Filipina, Chriztel Renae Gamboa Aceveda, moved to Croatia barely 3 years ago after her Mother got married to a Croatian man. Here she sings her rendition of a Međimurje (northernmost part of Croatia) traditional folk song Dej Mi, Bože (Give Me, God) during her audition for Supertalent (Croatia Got Talent) receiving a standing ovation and a resounding, unending applause. Not only that she made the judges and a lot from the audience emotional but she also made history being awarded as the first ever Audience Golden Buzzer in the show. The judges wanted to award her a golden buzzer but the judges and the hosts have all previously used up their golden buzzers. It was mentioned that never in the history of the show that the audience stood up for someone before, which led to a spontaneous moment of awarding her a historic audience golden buzzer. (Update: She also became the first and only to receive a yet again historic second golden buzzer during the semi-final rounds awarded by one of the judges securing her place on the finals on the Jubilee 10th season of the show.) "Dej mi, Bože" is a folk song-prayer about our longing for the person we love. Lyrics translation: Give me, God, eyes of the hawk, And along that, feathers of the swan That flew across the wide sea And kiss my dear darling. You are in the middle of my heart Like the seeds in a red apple. [Note that when girls in Međimurje sing a traditional song, the attire is completed with pigtail hair braids, minimal to no make-up look without any jewelries, and with both hands on the waist like how she portrayed.] What I find most outstanding is the fact that she sang the song Acapella (i.e. without any instruments accompaning her). This in itself is difficult for a singer because even a small mistake is very easily obvious without the instruments to mask it. But on the other hand it also shows the power of Folk music where the beauty of the words and the beauty of the melody are all that required to speak to a persons soul. Even more amazing is the fact that the Croatian contestants were singing in English while the Filippino was singing In their regional dialect. Also note how the crowd instantaneously accepted her and loved her for keeping up their culture. Also goes to show that culture depends not on birth. The good news us she finally went on to win the show because she had such phenomenal support from the croatian public. Hey Saeed! One of the things that I personally love about this song is that Kevin's arrangement is pure 100% Flex all the way. Carol of the Bells is one of the newer Christmas Carols and was written in the early days of the 20th century. But the style that Kevin uses in the intro, bridge, and ending of the song is a very, very old musical technique called Counterpoint, which used to be the judge by which all of the great Western European composers would measure themselves. It's kind of like Musical Sudoku. You have to make sure that each voice has its own separate melody which could be sung as a solo if you wanted to. And then, the composer plays sudoku with rules that have to be followed so that when you put all four separate melodies together, the chords they make follow very specific rules, the way that each voice moves from note to note -- all of it is dictated by very old Music Theory rules. It's like turning a composition into a set of equations to solve for Maths homework. But still make it sound like beautiful music. In modern music style, we are used to Melody voice (or duet) sitting atop an accompaniment of a solid chord that generally doesn't move. One solo voice has the interesting bit, usually up top, and the rest of the group sings the "ahhs" to make the solo pop. It's everywhere. We don't even think about it being a unique music style because it is the defining characteristic of modern sounding musical arrangements, more than any instrumentation like synths or electric guitars, etc. Soloist and Backup Singers. Solo instrument and the Orchestra/Band doing the chords behind it. Kevin, however, takes one of the more Modern Christmas Carols to hit mainstream popularity, and then he weaves into it the old form of Counterpoint. (around 4:28 in your reaction, Pentatonix switches to Four Voice Counterpoint (plus beatbox), and then at the very end, in a nod to even more Ancient Music Rules, Kirstie drops out and goes silent because only males were allowed to sing in choir in church, which is where all of this comes from. And Avi, Scott, and Mitch end with Three Voice Counterpoint. And they also obey another ancient rule, which is that you cannot end a song on a minor chord. So the very last chord, they switch keys to major. All of these markers give the arrangement a very, very Old Fashioned feel. AND, because in Conservatory still today, Musicians are trained formally in how to compose and arrange music using Counterpoint, this particular arrangement helps modern kids have an example of just what you were supposed to DO with Counterpoint. (Mozart would not have been impressed with modern music. Because the true mark of a Master by the rules of his day, was in how you arranged your Counterpoint. And modern music doesn't have it any more. But Carol of the Bells by Pentatonix does! And almost no other popular mainstream songs. Kinda cool!

In that case, if we're putting in requests for Xmas . . . Suggest you listen to "Jingle Bells" by "Tarja" (or anything else from her Dark Xmas album she released last year). Tarja is Tarja Turunen, the original singer from Nightwish, and the "J" in her name is pronounced as if it was a "Y" (as she comes from Finland).
