No autotune, no instruments, no adjustments. PTX makes a point of never recording anything they can't reproduce exactly live :) Kevin (beatboxer) plays the cello in some of their productions, but it's always very visible. Do check out their cover of Hallelujah...both the official version as well as the live version....you'll see (hear)

Definitely check out the live Hallelujah. It's my favorite to show people who can't handle the idea of PTX recreating their performances live.

There are always some adjustments in full studio recordings. Check the article from their sound mixer (it was a while ago, though). However, he said it is a little cleaning up and making it a bit tighter to make the expected studio quality sound, but they are not going into synthetic sound range.
@DelGuy03
@DelGuy03 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they sing their material live with the same high quality, but that doesn't mean that sound engineers do nothing in their studio recordings. Their tracks get fussed over by experts for EQ and ambiance, as detailed in that article.

@@TheSuperEmail Thanks. Of course PTX go through the same post-production polishing that any other group, artisit or band go through. It bugs me a little when some PTX fans act like their studio stuff is somehow the raw recording maybe with a little reverb. There will always be a little pitch correction as nobody is actually perfect perfect. It might be tiny imperceivable (to the human ear) changes, but they will be there. I think pitch correction software like autotune gets a bad wrap as people think it's just used on people that can't sing, when often it's just used as a polishing tool, rather than turning something bad into something good. No doubt PTX are very talented singers and sound amazing live, but it doesn't sound like a mastered, fully EQ'd polished audio recording (even if it's in tune) and nor should it, nobody does. Some fans just get a bit carried away and are in denial about what goes on in the recording process as they somehow see it as taking away from the groups talent, when all it does is make it a polished package.
@TheSuperEmail

@@stuarcari when I read that article, I was surprised how much products was that guy using and how much editing goes to each song. I also did see a video where the author claims that they do some lipsynch on concerts on some of their songs (at least for later tours). Something that they use it only for the parts that are most straining for voice because their concert schedule is so intense they wouldn't be able to rest their voices enough and that they want to give their fans a best experience. Not sure how much truth that is, though - my relationship with music is only in "like", "dislike", "don't mind it" and similar terms :) . Again, the person doesn't deny they are talented or that they can't do that live, if needed - simply that they usually do that to save voices (like partial lipsynch on 6 to 8 songs from 20 or so in concert), and that they also use other methods - e.g. in most cases Mitch tries not to go too high or so.

Some info about the members: Kevin - the beatboxer and also a tenor though he has only a few solos Scott - the blond guy that started the song, he has the most solos in the group and will be singing in like half of the songs they have, he is a baritone so that makes his voice the best fit for mainstream music, he has an amazing range because he can cover both bass notes and go all the way into falsetto Matt - the guy you liked, he is a baritone/bass, has a few solos but you usually hear him doing the bass line Kirstie - the only girl, mezzo-soprano, I agree with you she has a very unique voice, didn't use to have many solos because she was conscious of her voice but since vocally she has improved the most she has been getting more and more solos and her range is insane because she can belt real high but also has a really pretty lower tone Avi - he is not in the video because he left ptx in 2017 but he was the original bass of the group Mitch - the second guy singing and let me tell you, you haven't heard anything from him yet, he is a counter tenor and has one of the most impressive ranges I have ever heard(if you listen to the part where Kirstie is singing you can hear a higher harmonie to her solo and yes that Mitch) and you probably can't tell from this song because he is singing I his lower range but he has one of the most unique voices ever Some song recommendations: hallelujah(there is also a professionally recorded version from their Christmas special), can you feel the love tonight(to hear some more Matt), imagine(to hear every member sing), bohemian rhapsody(the electric guitar is just👌 you won't understand that unless you watch it), daft punk medley(recorded for 400$ in a closet and won them their first grammy)

Not sure if anyone mentioned this or if you're interested but Pentatonix just dropped a cover of Mad World on Wednesday!? Its a true 5 point harmony cover! No beatboxing in this one and it sounds incredible! Very haunting 😮 and you get that unique Pentatonix wall of sound that is so beautiful and powerful! My favorite wall of sound is the one in Imagine where they literally sound like one voice which was the message of the cover!

Yes, there is compression there, but I've never really caught autotune on their vocals. The correction that is done in post-production is mostly timing related and a bit of layering to make it sound fuller. But, since the fact that they can do all of this live has kind of been their brand from the beginning, they clearly make sure to keep the post-production to minimum. The guy in the middle, Scott, is a baritone singer, so he's quite versatille with his range. He covers the bass line when the bass singer (Matt - white jacket) has a lead. But he can also cover some pretty high harmonies with his falsetto. The second guy who sang (Mitch - high voice) was really tame in this song in particular. He rivals the lady (Kirstin) to the point where even seasoned fans are sometimes not sure if certain high notes were hit by him or her without watching the video. He has a pretty sick part in Hallelujah or Can You Feel the Love Tonight, for example. Kevin, the beatboxer, rarely sings in their songs. And when he does, he often stays on the harmonies. His solos are very rare. He has one in Imagine or Mary Did You Know though. Vocally he's a tenor. They are pretty big. It's only shame that they're mostly known for their covers. Their covers are awesome, don't get me wrong, but they have great original music that doesn't get enough attention. They're actually dropping a new original album this year (at least from what I can tell). A few weeks ago they've released the first single for the album, called Happy Now. Anyway, thank you so much for reacting to them. This video made me ridiculously happy :).

Welcome to the new world of a capella. Pentatonix and Home Free have rewritten the book on a capella worldwide. All of the suggestions for more songs to listen to are great. Pentatonix has 3 Grammys, one for their "Daft Punk Medley", one for their" Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies", and one for basically being Dolly Parton's backup band(?) on "Jolene". Also, try "Imagine" (John Lennon), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen),"Mad World" (Tears for Fears), and of course, any of their Christmas music. For Home Free may I recommend their "Man of Constant Sorrow", "Will the Circle be Unbroken" (Johnny Cash), and my favorite, "Helplessly Hoping" (Crosby, Stills & Nash) (and then a quarantined Italian Youth Choir's cover of Home Free's arrangement).

Great Reaction! Welcome down the Pentatonix rabbit hole! We fans call ourselves Pentaholics. FYI: There is no lead & there are no egos in this group. They equally share the spotlight when a song calls for it. Their arrangements are industry leading by Ben Bram. Their layers add amazing depth to a song. What makes them unique is that EACH of them has such a wide vocal range. Kevin is the inventor of cello-boxing (playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time)! SO MANY GREAT songs to choose from! They have won 3 Grammys and tour the world. They have redefined acapella for a new generation!

@@dicodec And, if you really, really want to hear him not only sing, but play cello, and beatbox. Go on his solo YT channel "Kevin Olusola". There he does his live looping "KOvers", as well as original compositions. One in particular, 'Down' by Marion Hill, is truly epic featuring a face-melting electric cello solo. Truth be known, Kevin is probably the most talented member of the group. Having been featured at Carnegie Hall while still in high school on both cello and saxophone.

The ending was more their normal octave. I wonder sometimes how people in the active music world have never even heard of Pentatonix when they've been around more than ten years and fill stadiums on world tours. Just a few days ago they released a new one, "Mad World", and it's stupendous. You'll thank yourself a lot if you give it a listen.

They make an effort not to use any auto tune etc because they want their studio and live versions to sound the same. You ought to check out Hallelujah, it has over 550 million views or their newest release of Mad World that just chocked up over one million views in one day. Also, their Daft Punk Medley won them their first Grammy. Their Bohemian Rhapsody is awesome!

(Cue Rod Serling voice) You are about to enter another dimension. A dimension of sight and sound and mind. At the signpost up ahead, your next stop, the Pentatonix rabbit hole! Great reaction, always fun to see new folks discover Pentatonix (PTX for short). You are going to be flooded by avid PTX fans (who call themselves Pentaholics) who love watching reactions. You will get many suggestions from their extensive catalog. Frankly, pick ANYTHING they do and you won’t be disappointed. A little background on PTX, of the five of them, three of them, the tall blonde guy, Scott Hoying (baritone), the young lady, Kirstin (or Kirstie) Maldonado (mezzo-soprano), and the guy with the dark hair and high voice, Mitch Grassi (counter-tenor), are originally from Arlington Texas and have known each other since childhood and sang together in high school. In 2011, NBC had a singing competition called “The Sing Off” where a-cappella groups competed against each other and one was eliminated each week. Scott wanted to compete, but they needed 5 people, so they met a fourth member, Avi Kaplan, a classically trained bass singer, through a friend and he joined (he is in many videos and has a beard, but personal reasons caused him to amicably leave the group in 2017). Before Avi left, he helped find his replacement, an equally talented base singer, Matt Sallee, who is in the current group in this video. That has been the only change in the lineup. If you begin to watch their earlier videos, you will barely recognize Mitch, he lost a lot of weight, and changes his look often, as does Kirstie. Scott discovered their fifth member, beatboxer/cellist/vocalist (tenor) Kevin Olusola, on KZfaq where he was “celloboxing” or beat boxing while playing the cello. Because of schedules, they didn’t meet until just a few days before the competition began, yet they went on to win the show. They won a recording contract as part of the show prize, but 2 weeks into it, the label dropped them feeling like an a-cappella group was not marketable. Refusing to be discouraged, PTX began a KZfaq channel and from that channel garnered millions of world-wide fans, went on to world tours, put out multiple albums, including wildly successful Christmas albums, hit the #1 spot on the Billboard chart, almost always in the top ten, and have to date won 3 Grammy Awards. They do all their own beats. No instruments are used with the exception of several videos where Kevin plays the cello and some collaborations with violinist Lindsey Sterling. They do not use multi-tracking, auto-tune or any studio tricks. Everything they have on video, they perform exactly the same live. All their Sing Off performances are on KZfaq, watching them will give you their story, and show you how they have evolved into, IMO, the best a-cappella group in the world right now. Welcome to the PTX experience.

Scott (who is nominally their lead singer) has a crazy vocal range. When their bass is on lead (in this case, Matt), Scott takes the bass line. The beat-boxer Kevin rarely sings - but when he does, he takes tenor. Kirstie has always been good, but after a short time on Broadway, her voice and projection ability have radically improved. The short dark-haired guy is Mitch, who sings high tenor. If you want to see versatility, find their Daft Punk medley.

You've got a new subscriber 💜I came for dimash reaction but I'm staying for pentatonix reactions... Y'all they're crazy talented ... Please do more reactions of them... They're 3 times Grammy winner a capella group... Just quick intro - ptx was formed in 2011 The guy who started is Scott hoying he is baritone but can hit some pretty good bass notes and overall versatile singer. He has a range of 4octaves. Next is Mitch Grassi the second guy who sang he is a tenor with unbelievable range and can really high . He originally is countertenor with freaking 5 octaves .. The beatboxer / percussion guy is Kevin Olusula who is really great and sometimes when he sings his placement is tenor ... He has surprisingly good range since not been trained in singing.. he is a cello player and has made songs using beatboxing and playing cello calling it "celloboxing" he has released his own songs too might want to check them out The lady out there is Kirstie Maldonado who is mezzo soprano and has some killer vocals which have developed since doing Broadway and other stuff The last guy with white jacket is Matt . He is a new member who replaced the original bass guy. The original bass guy was - Avi Kaplan he is a musician, vocalist and a natural bass with 3 octave range . Please please please react to their stuff - Daft punk -(Grammy winning song) Bohemian rhapsody Hallelujah Say something Can't hold us Gold No Problem Cheerleader...

HOW? Also their first Grammy winner - I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You and When The Party’s Over - subtle, dreamy perfection - Hallelujah Live, Imagine and Bohemian Rhapsody, to just knock your damn socks off.

Song was written by Paul Simon and original recording was by Simon and Garfunkel, #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in Dec, 1965. Nice change of pace guys. Have you ordered your Morley 20/20 Wah pedals yet? Kanami seems to like them!

Oh wow, that's dope! I've seen the video had no clue it was them. Yeah it was pretty refreshing listening to something alittle different. We haven't yet her demo of them was pretty cool. I kinda want to order one haha.

@@dicodec Which FBE video have you seen? KZfaqrs react to Babymetal or Babymetal react to the KZfaqrs? Fyi there is a third one of outtakes. Plus there is Celebrities React to Babymetal.
