Hey, I don't have the Graph 1000 nor have i ever held one, but just from looking at it I did not think this would be the pencil for you. With it being so similar to the GraphGear 1000 and not being pocket safe, I am surprised you picked it up. But i'm glad you like it. I don't think I would like writing with it, I have such a low grip and I look at the section below the grip how it has very sharp angles, I don't think that that would be comfortable in my hand. Glad you found a pencil that reminds you so much of the sharp series, we all know how you love your sharps. Looking forward to your upcoming top 10/HM videos.

David Buckheister This is actually the opposite of the GG 1000. GG 1000-Hefty, Retractbale, Lead indicator in the center, Spring Clip, Knurling, No Cleanout Rod, Not so Sharp Tip Design, Non Removable Clip G 1000 FP-Lightweight, Nonretractable, lead indicator in the back, Just a clip, No Knurling, Cleanout Rod, Sharp Tip Design, Removable Grip Both-Silicone Grip, Drafting Pencil Edit: Erased Comma and to add on, this comment originally was done in only 5 min.

I hugely enjoy watching your videos..my opinions often agree, and other times not so much, but I like your balanced thoughts. Not a lover of the Pentel Graph 1000, nor a hater...loaned mine to a colleague, and told him to keep it...it just doesn't fit my preferences. It feels too light in my hand, and I prefer a tip down weight..with a good knurling for grip, and aesthetic. I'm a (semi)retired Architect...grew up and began work at 17 in the era of hand drawn with pencil or ink on vellum or mylar. I loved my drafting tools, and pencils (wood because they were often office provided, and lead holders), and always have certain points I look for. In my experience rubber grips like on this one eventually get a gummy feeling, or deteriorate completely. In the Pentel line I prefer the GraphGear 500...although I'd prefer a metal body to plastic. It gets many things right (in my opinion). My old standby was an Alvin Draftmatic (name by memory..it's dissapeared thru the ages), and a Koh-i-Noor rapidomatic. Mechanical pencils will always be a tool for me characterized by the beauty of it's function. Present day..I spend my time writing, and still prefer pencils to pens...maybe old habits... Presently for my needs and usage a Pentel Kerry tops my list. I have a Pentel GraphGear 1000 as well...and have likes/dislikes...the weight/materials are nice, but the balance is too high, ad the overall length feels too long...and of course the grip is problematic. I often carry it on a clipboard though so the clip, and retraction mechanism is excellent...again for my use. Trying out the Uni Kuru Toga Roulette right now...the lead spinning feature intrigues me...though I prefer less moving parts (gimmicks) on what to me should be a simple device.

I think people don't use 2B lead for drafting as it smears too much. The blue/gold one looks stunning. Glad I picked it up.

I don't understand this "pocket safe" thing... I use a plastic pen top on my pencils if they are going in my pocket. Why don't manufacturers make these things with lids like pens ? Like...am i crazy why not?

I "borrowed" an drafting pencil from my dad's desk when I was a kid... maybe 25+ years ago. That pencil got me into mechanical pencils. It was an old Pentel graph/gear (I forget the model number) almost identical to this one without the plastic eraser cover bits. At some point I ended up bending the tip and was searching for a replacement, but couldn't find one. Then the Graphgear 1000 came out so I grabbed a full set of them... Just like you, I don't like them because they are so heavy. Really unfortunate. So that really kickstarted my journey.

My Graph1000 for pro just arrived today to my house via Amazon. I was so excited. Already wrote out some expressions. Works well. I use my Graphgear 1000 helping sped students with math. They are so intrigued by it, using it, and beg to keep it. My Graph1000 for pro Was $8 and body is plastic. Was it ever made of metal? Did your pencil come in a nice case? Mine just came in plastic packaging. Thanks to your channel I have acquired many nice Mechanical. Pencils. I love them all! The HB2 lead is my preference . Soft lead suits my lefty-self. I picked up the Smash many years ago after watching your review. So now gonna use my G1000 for pro this next week. Gotta guard my pencils. One student always tries to pick them up. He already grabbed one of my sharps. But got it back. Whew😅

Thanks for the review! I honestly don't know what is it about stickered lead hardness indicators that bothers me so much, probably just that they peel off with time, so thanks for mentioning it.

I wonder why the took the retractable tip mechanism? about the 1000 there are just a few details that I do not enjoy... the shape of the cap, the fact that mostly its find in the silver/alluminum tone, I rather have the common colors for each lead size, as most pentel pens have the same colors...and of course the placement of the lead indicator, near the grip... It would be great to combine both 1000 and 100X features, i mean... the design of the 100x with the retractable mechanism would be a winner :D

For once, a pencil I already have (of course in 0.3 mm). I have both the regular Graph for Pro and Graph CS (Creator's Style) Edition, and one thing that I find that stands out is that the 10 click mechanism test on either of them allows 2.5 mm. In other words, insane. Also, I also believe that thinner tip sizes have more pencils with lead jam removers (obvious reasons). Also, I recall 0.4 mm being only available in Japan (if you did not already say that). I would prefer the for Pro as opposed to the CS Edition actually.

i have the Pentel 1000 pro in .5 and have it loaded with Ain Stein 2b. Probably the best writing experience i have right now... but i have never owned a mechanical pencil in the .3 mm range. i have always been reluctant to pull the trigger on .3mm because I'm afraid that i would be constantly breaking lead. I'm wondering how much lead breakage the 1000 Pro has in .3mm you experience?
@bballwatcher2224
@bballwatcher2224 7 жыл бұрын
Ben Kenobi It's rather based on the writing pressure actually. With the 1000 for Pro, since I use light pressure, I notice no lead breakage with normal writing. My only two pencils that I have that can break lead easily is the Zebra Color Flight and the Pilot S5.

Ben Kenobi Although, based on your comment, don't ever go 0.2. Just don't.

I agree with Kian that it is is more user issue than engineering of the pencil. Any pencil lead will break with enough pressure. So, if you find that you are heavy-handed, .3 may not work out for you. I have to consciously lower my writing pressure when I use .3 or it will break.

This video is like a new source of inspiration for me I guess. There are few mechanical pencils that are affordable and still high quality. I never thought that this would be one of them. Would you recommend this over the Staedtler 925-25-0X?
@ClutchSituation
@ClutchSituation 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, on weight alone. I know the 925 has devotees and I really like the knurling on the grip. If function is the ultimate goal, hand fatigue would be a lot less with this pencil. But don't get me wrong, the 925 is one of the "legacy" drafting pencils and just because I'm smitten over this one it doesn't mean that the nature of the grip is going to be right for everyone.

Graph 1000, and Graph 1000 for PRO are two different pencils. Graph 1000 for PRO is not a writing pencil. It is a professional drafting pencil. If anyone is using it for writing, they are paying a bit too much, and it may hurt fingers. Well, it is totally up to them!
@greekveteran2715

What's their differences then? I can only find the Graph 1000, I want to get a better pencil than the GraphGear 500, should the Graph 1000 be better for drawiing? Or should I search for the "for Pro" version?

i'm not a fan of the pentel grahpgear 1000 in the 0.5 size but i do love the 0.7 size. it feels sturdier and i like heavy pencils. i'm also a fountain pen collector and i know twsbi brand very well and hate it with a passion. no matter what twshi tool i'm holding in my hands, whether it's a mechanical pencil or a fountain pen, the plastic gives me a bad allergy, which starts with an itch and ends with scabs and cortisone. i don't know what chinese factories put in their stationery but it's definitely not healthy (in my case at least). in my experience as a professional artist i found that a cheap lead holder with mechanical advancement like the kita-boshi (8 to 12 dollars) is comparable if not better than a rotring 800 2mm lead holder with mechanical advancement (not a fan of 0.5 and 0.7 sizes of this brand).

If I write with it in long stretches at a time the rubber inserts in the grip get uncomfortable. Transcribe 2 pages of a book to see what I mean. Still is an impressive pencil, especially the build quality they convey despite its very light weight, as you said.

Not sure why a pencil made of plastic is called "For Pro". The Graphgear 1000 feels super solid compared to this one. I like heavy pencils, anything from the range of 0.6oz to 0.8oz I think provides a writing experience that cannot be beat by a plastic one. As an engineer I prefer the Tombow Pencil Sharp Monograph Zero or the Rotring 600. Love your reviews!

@ClutchSituation

Yes. I mean, everyone should take every recommendation anyone gives with a grain of salt. Some features will matter much more to some people as compared to others. There will be pencils that I hate that people love, and pencils I love that others hate. In no way can I tell anyone what they should or should not do. So, I give my impressions and it is up to others to make their own decisions!

CAN YOU PLEASE RECOMMEND ME A PENCIL :) I like a pencil with a little bit of weight, aesthetics and looks are very important to me- I personally don't like how the Pentel graph gear looks. I would also like a nice grip for lots of writing and I'm looking for a pencil that doesn't constantly break my pencil like my current one (Muji Gravity pencil). Can you give me some recommendations? Oh and my budget is >$20 thank you.
