Great comparison review! I have three 1000s in various lead diameters. I also have two 500s, but they're both silver plastic with the color-coordinated text for 0.3 (maroon) and 0.5 (black). They both have lead diameter markings on the end cap with a hardness indication window as well. I got them both from a friend in Korea about 15 years ago.

The "1000" is the one that is more available in Mexico City! but here it really is much more expensive than on the USA! For example: in "Office Depot" it costs $240 Pesos! ($12 US dollars!) including also a very high 16% sales tax! and even if it still doesn't sound like very much in many parts of the world, when you see that minimun daily salary here in Mexico is around $120 Pesos a day ($6 US dollars!) then you could understand why the "1000" is considered a great "luxory item" here!

In Brazil the GraphGear 500 costs around R$40. That's easily the price of two restaurant meals.
@scaredsamurai69744 жыл бұрын
The reason there's a "seam" on the 800 is because you twisted it while the grip is clutched on to the body, therefore warping the metal. You're supposed to prealign the nub so you don't have to rotate it when it's already in the body. The way I fixed the seam is pulling out the grip, applying pressure to close the seam then pre-aligning the nub before putting it back in.
@unsharpen4 жыл бұрын
Yea I fixed it right after, no problem. Just a minor annoyance

@@unsharpen Yeah these pens are pretty durable. I used to own a couple of the 0.5mm 800 which was given to me by my cousin until I switched to the 0.5mm 1000. I'm glad that you went in depth on the review. These pens will last you for years.

I have the 1000 (.7) and love it, but it doesn't show the lead size on the cap. The rubber, hardness indicator and the ring right next to it are colour coded light blue for lead size. I bought it because I don't like being stabbed in the nipple and the clip keeps it from accidentally getting knocked while in my pocket. (or put away while still knocked)
@hbirtt2 жыл бұрын
I actually like the 500 best too, just because the grip is so much more comfortable to me. I wish it had a hardness indicator. The 1000 grip and the required clip turn me off. Edit: the newer 500 actually has an indicator :)
@greekveteran27152 жыл бұрын
Pentel GraphGear 500 comes in 2 versions, the one you own and another one, which all are silver-grey colour (both the grip and the body) and they have a hardness indicator on top! So, you can get your (mine too!) favorite GraphGear 500 with a lead hardness indicator. Here it costs a bit more than the version we own. It's the only pencil, that I can make more beatiful letters with. I can make noticably better circles, literally perfect circles, like they came out of a compass! I wish I good now, if the Graph PG1000 is even better than the 500! (not the GraphGear 1000,because that one is not better than the 500)

Unlike other brands of mechanical pencils, is very rare than one from pentel need some "clean rod", i have used the same 0,5 graphgear 500 by more than five years and never gets some lead stuck inside, definitely the brand put their efforts designing a reliable mechanism at an affordable price for every level. Only thing i did not like is that the metal grip after all this time have a rare metalic smell, maybe it is time to buy another one or buy the upper series
@Dunch0717 Жыл бұрын
Do not (and I am not saying this lightly) underestimate the Graph Gear 500. It may not be the highest quality but no joke it will last a life time. I am not exagerating when I say it is one of my top three favourite mechanical penils of all time. This is simply because For 15 dollars I got two pencils that last a life time, A high quality eraser, eraser refills, and extra lead. I got two of these pencils when I was 9 or 10 and still have them.

I just want a retractable Pentel Sharp. If only it existed! They should make it with a twist design. I've tried both the Pentel Graph Gear 1000 and the Sharp, and I like the thin grip and lightweight design of the Sharp best. It feels more like holding a regular wooden pencil, but with the convenience of a mechanical one.
@greekveteran27152 жыл бұрын
The stable and "non" retractable tip, of the Pentel Sharp, is the reason that pencils is so accurate, and that's also one of the reasons, it is the first choice for most artists and more than that, one of the reasons, of it being the all time best seller mechanical pencil!! I like a bit of more safety too, but nothing is perfect and it's always a trade. you get something, you lose something else!

You should definitely take a look at the Steadler silver series mechanical pencils. I believe they are only sold in japan, but they shouldn’t be too hard to get. I prefer them to my Rotrings (600 and 500) at this point. Much cheaper too! As far as drafting pencils go, I haven’t come across better.
