You are so talented 👍👌, this portrait looks very realistic, I NEVER SAW A OIL PASTEL REALISTIC PORTRAIT PAINTING!!! I waited a long time to see an artist who can show us, all who love the “oil pastel painting”, how to make a realistic portrait and different kinds of drawings with oil pastels that is one of my favorite painting techniques. 🙃😆😆You are amazing, I love your work 👏👏👌👌👌👍.

Wow either the Pentels you bought are of better consistency, or its warmer climate by you, or the paper you use is better suited and or you are off the charts skilled to know how to work them ! My experience with them was so frustrating that I bought another one thinking I bought a bad hard and dry batch. The frustration lead me straight to neopastels lol. This is inspiring, you did not just make it work but beautifully so. Thank you for sharing your gift of art with us.

I also had a hard time using Pentel Oil Pastel because of the wrong paper. They seem to paint more vividly on the rough paper. I think buying neopastels is the great choice since they are one of the best oil pastels! Thank you so much for your kind words!! 🥰💕🙏🏻

Hallo :) I have recently found your KZfaq channel, because I started using oil pastels. Your artwork looks incredible! I subscribed :). I will also try to learn how to use them correctly. I struggle with paper. I haven ´t found a good one yet. But I think I will try the Strathmore you used and give it a try. I bought the Jaxon pastel paper because the employee said its suited for oil pastels. But I dont like it. It is too textured. Keep up your passion! Greetings from Germany 😁

Dear @FunGreem, thanks for this beautiful tutorial that displays this particular line's strengths. I have seen other tutorials that laments their scratchiness, hardness and lack of blendability compared with higher tier oil pastels. You show us that its hardness can also translate in a sharper tool to draw finer details, so it is just another legitimate tool to be played by its strength. EDIT: How do they fare in lightfastness compared to higher tier oil pastels?, Thanks in advance!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment!🙏🏻💕 I think each user has a preference for hardness. I didn't have much inconvenience using the harder oil pastels because they are good for fine details. However, there are artist’s grade oil pastels that blend well despite their hardness. So overall, Artist’s grade pastels are better, but Pantel pastels aren't bad for the price. I don’t know much about the lightfastness but the color of my old paintings(by pentel) are still fine.😊

Very beautiful! It's good to see a very familiar brand. They're pretty decent and most students here use them, including myself. I heard that they have an artist grade but maybe I'll try out mungyo first since it's more accessible in our place. Do you think 48 is good for a start or maybe I should spend more for 72 colors?

Thank you !! I have both 48 colors and 72 colors of Mungyo Soft Oil Pastels and I like 72 colors more since it has more beautiful muted colors that are very useful! I purchased 48 colors for a start and ended up buying 72 colors 😂. Hopefully this is helpful 😊

I like to use Mixed Media Paper in general. For this painting, I used 400 Series Strathmore Toned Tan Mixed Media Paper! 😊👍🏻

I got these pentel pastels, but I can’t seem to be blend them with my fingers or a tissue, any help?

Yeah, I had the same issue. So I usually blend the color with a different color like layering colors. Or if you are comfortable using Gamsol, you can use it to dissolve and blend with a tissue or brushes. I hope this tip works for you. 🥰💕🙏🏻

Many people avoid using this product because the scent is too strong. The product itself is good though. I wish the strong scent could be improved. Thanks for sharing your experience! 👍🏻🙏🏻
