Just my two centavos but many people move to Mexico to save money instead of the love of the people and country. They don't learn the language or the customs. In addition, they bring a sense of arrogance, too, and act as if they know more than the locals. My advice for people moving to Mexico is to get involved with the locals. Watch and listen and ask questions. Be humble and open minded. It's a tough transition and not for everyone.

The weather is pretty much perfect year round in Ensenada. The cool ocean water tends to keep the temperatures in the cooler range. It's comparable to how the weather is in San Diego and that's been called one of the best living climates in the world. Today was the warmest it's been so far this year at a sunny 71 with a low tonight of a very comfortable for sleeping temp of 57. No bugs or mosquitoes and because no a/c is needed my electric bills average around $7 to $9.00us max per month. Buena suerte!

There's always been high mobility both in and out of Puerto Vallarta of both Mexican nationals and foreigners. Every year new people arrive in town and the largest part decides to leave (for whatever reasons). This is the way it's been ever since it became a famous beach resort. However, in the long term a small group of people decides to stay and those are the ones that have made the city grow. So, it may seem like a lot of people leave but the final balance indicates the number of new inhabitants is always increasing.

This flight to other countries is not going to work. I lived in Mexico for years. But that was when the dollar was strong. Now the peso is strong so there goes the economic advantage. Then, what you don't expect is the intense heatwaves, drought and that causes blackouts and water shortages. No place is safe and there are no utopias on the planet.

I think living in Vallarta is very challenging, there are many pros and cons for sure, and to live here you have to accept them, especially accept the fact that PV is a very small town. I stay for PV's beautiful environment, air, and food. The fruits, veggies, and carne here are world class. I'd recommend to anyone considering staying here long haul - to live as near to one of the grocery stores as possible, it will make life mich easier here.

Informative video, well done. We moved to La Paz, BCS seven years ago from the left coast of Canada. We had travelled extensively around Mexico, South America, SE Asia and India for many years in search of the ideal retirement location. La Paz checked 90% of the boxes. People, food and overall vive is very laid back. Yes it does get hot from July to October, but we have never once needed a snow shovel, ice scraper or long pants. Flip flops work just fine. Cheers

5k on the way!!!!!! love you guys. Like in the USA, Mexico is suffering from price increases on the basic things: food, gas, housing. This is a global phenomenon, and while the increase of wealthy foreigners plays it's part, it's not the only factor. Again, this isn't just Mexico... cost of goods and services is up worldwide. I do what I can to live with as little impact as my lazy self can muster. Cooking at home helps, eating less meat helps the budget (and the world). Keeping driving to a minimum (btw something that San Pancho and NYC both share....it's a place where walking works for almost all needs.) love to you guys, great vid

I'm moving there in September from the US. Have heard about costs rising and people leaving because their fixed income isn't going as far. I understand it. I'll be working remotely as a telehealth therapist that I currently already do in the US so income won't be an issue for me. Rented a home in the Versailles neighborhood for a year's lease and went through a service that walked me through the temporary visa process, which made it so easy. There will be things I will need to adjust to like having patience and understanding the infrastructure is not what I'm used to but there are trade offs. I'm so glad I am renting a home with solar panels so it will ease the electric bill since I'm sure I will be running the A/C a lot during the worst of the summer months, but the house also has a pool so that will help. I'm still excited about the move and most looking forward to becoming fluent in Spanish instead of just conversational. I want to really immerse myself into the culture and the locals and live an authentic Mexican experience. I don't like the arrogance many foreigners bring. I recognize I am a guest in the country and I need to assimilate to their way of life.

For me, I had “wintered” for at least 3-4 months, or more, in southern Mexico, as well as travelling around other parts since 2016. I love the people and culture, but not the lack of infrastructure. I found health care very hit and miss, it’s fairly common to get sick or injured while on holiday there. I enjoy many of the areas, but as a retired person, it has become too expensive for my budget, the value is no longer there, with all the stuff that goes wrong.

A few things for me. I feel it's just too hot all the time. Another is there is nowhere to really rollerblade/skate and too hot to exercise outside. The roads and streets are broken and or cobblestone or covered in polvo in most areas. I feel like there are no "Real" parks. Like a central park. Its like all malecon and that's it. Even when I go to Tepic, they have great parks and invest in the city. I don't feel that in Puerto Vallarta. These are the biggest negatives for me. It's easy to get bored too after you've seen everything over and over again. I'll likely not ever leave, but these are real drawbacks for me personally. I've thought about making PV homebase because it is a really great place but maybe do more visits to Guad, DF, other places in Mexico more. I think if I'm away more, I'll appreciate everything I like about it more.

One size fits all .....Guaymas San Carlos, Sonora Mex. When choosing a “permanent”place to retire for good, considering your age, medical services, health, budget amongst other things, like climate etc, there is no best, country, city or region! Every country, región has its magic! But of course you know all this. A retired Airline Pilot, born in Mexico, arrived in ‘88 in La Paz, in BAJA California Sur, still here, living in a nice neighbourhood! Fidepaz. Originally from the northern state of Sonora in Ciudad Obregón, the heart of the fertile agricultural Valle del Yaqui, Yaqui Valley where the Green Revolution started. Have you been to colonial Alamos, Sonora of rich history and few people ?…. Less than 20,000 inhabitants, no Home Depot, Walmart, no Costco, no Sam’s Club, only local markets! Great late 18 century Arched portal colonial homes! Want the ocean, for that San Carlos!

I had been thinking about this for some time, the reasons people leave a place. The cost of living has been a big issue, and PV isn't immune to the inflation. You both mentioned that some families are moving. Understandable. It could happen to anyone. I just wonder who are the type of people who stay in PV, singles? Retired seniors? Puerto Vallarta only seems to be growing more and more year after year. How many expats are in areas like Buscerias or Mismaloya? I think Puerto Vallarta is going to change, and it is going through some growing pains. I do hope that the economy gets better in PV., that things become more affordable. The heat situation I can see being an obstacle. That might the only thing that might be overwhelming after a while. I have sympathy for you in regards to the tax situation of leaving. They do make it difficult, and it is very annoying. Many people are leaving Canada, and I think the country is trying to make up for that economic loss. I hope the inflation starts to stabilize, and we get to some normal economic levels. Thank you Marc and Kathleen for keeping us updated.

Thank you watching and for your comment! We’ve seen dramatic changes in Toronto in the last few years and I don’t think Toronto and PV are the only places. It’s a matter of choosing where you feel your quality of life is better, for us it’s PV! People need to adapt to where they choose to live and if they don’t or they can’t they need to move! People come and go and that’s the reality of being a foreigner!

Surely high prices has something to do with it ? -- Inflation. Greed. -- Not just there - much of Mexico is getting more expensive - given the strength of the peso increasing. -- Many people are looking to S E Asia for much less expensive living. > Up to 70% cheaper in some areas of the Philippines - over the US average ! -- Cambodia nearly as much. -- Significantly cheaper than much of Mexico. -?- Cost of living is becoming more and more important as inflation continues to destroy the middle class !!! - - - Obviously - well to do aren't as effected.

It does not matter where foreigners move in Mexico, at the end where ever they go it will be expensive, because they make it expensive. They don't understand that when they are willing to pay more for goods than what locals do, they drive everything up, so having said that they create a harsh enviroment for locals as well. Not blaming any one here, just giving you feed back. Need to learn the cost of living in the areas and stick to that, once they start paying more there is no way going back.
