Came across this strange fungus while out foraging edible mushrooms. Later learned that this fungus is the younger stage of the stinkhorn fungus (Phallus impudicus). After finding this specimen and later hearing the name, stinkhorn, it is surpising to think that people eat this strange looking fungus.
