The Starbucks barista... She should have said... "I'm sorry your dad was so late bringing you here, the early children got ALL the frappacinos." As a career restaurant manager I am extremely petty with parents who use their children as a weapon with my staff. One time a mom said "Behave or the lady will yell at you" I responded to the child sweetly "No I won't sweetheart, it's not my job to teach you right from wrong, it's your mom's job" Humbles them quick.

I just recently had a coworker, who had his teen son with him, ask me if my eyebrow piercing hurt and I answered honestly saying not really. He then nods towards his son and asks me the same question, so I look at him square in the eyes and said, "No, it didn't hurt." I'm not lying for anyone's kid especially when that kid literally just heard me answer the first time.

Having worked in schools, I am happy to say that being kind is now becoming more popular, at least in my community. When I taught sixth grade, there was a class clown who was friends with everyone, all the girls thought he was cute, and he often had to be called out by teachers for goofing around/being disruptive. At the spring roller skating field trip, there was a song where everyone was supposed to hold hands with a friend to stay on the rink. Let me tell you, this boy went and asked to hold hands with a boy with autism who wasn’t known to have any friends and always had an adult aide at his side. Every single teacher watching cried.

I work in retail and a mother told her kids I ruined their Christmas because we ran out of the kind of Christmas tree they were looking for. Mind you we had those trees in stock for 2 months, and she came in a week before Christmas looking for this tree. ITS NOT OUR FAULT. Plan better, people.

I had thrown out our old plastic Christmas tree sometime during the year and did not remember doing it (my youngest daughter had cancer again and I was not in a good place) and we looked for the tree...only for it not to be in any of the closets...5 days before Christmas. There are no Christmas trees! But not to worry we bought a Christmas tree like plant and put decorations on it. We would never have accused a shop employee for ruining our Christmas because I procrastinated this year. If we had not found the plant then we would have drawn a tree and put that up instead. I am sorry that the mom treated you like that. She needs to model good behavior

“I’ve seen her grades. I know she can’t spell.” 😂😂😂 Ma’am, I had no idea my then 4yo autistic daughter could READ until her school told me. She totally disregarded books and reading at home no matter how hard I tried. Then, one day after class, her VPK teacher was like “Hey did you know Child could read? Like REALLY well?” Turns out my adorable little brat is hyperlexic and had been able to read the whole time, so me trying to help her LEARN TO READ was boring and she would lose interest! 😂 Now, at 6, we found out that she also has ADD, which explains SO MUCH MORE. 😂 Also she now loves to read and enjoys when we do it together.❤ TLDR; Kids are sneaky af with what they really know.

I used to work at a pet store. One Christmas Eve we were closing early because it was snowing so badly the manager didnt want us to all get snowed into the store. This guy showed up beating on the glass screaming that we were ruining his kids Christmas. Apparently he had hidden his kids Christmas hampster in the garage and it had frozen to death. This is why we always told parents to buy only the cages then let the kid come pick out their own pet after Christmas day.

I'm completely honest with my kids - but not in a brutal way. They asked me when they were YOUNG too, starting at 3 years old, "Is Santa real?". "No, but he's a fun character, in stories, to get you in the mood for Christmas. He's a great example of giving gifts to make people happy, too". No drama, no confusion, no betrayal. And best of all: they know they can come to me when they want the truth. This also embeds better Christmas traditions too. Instead of them being so focused on getting gifts, we make it exciting for them to get gifts for others by going on secret shopping missions and getting 1 shopping gift for each member of the family. It makes for some great memories, teaches them to be generous and calculate their money, and they learn how to actually think out gifts and get to know each family member personally, and it teaches them it's fun to make others happy. P.S. Sweet moment happened the other day where they saw a mailman giving out packages to doorsteps and I half-jokingly commented, "He's basically Santa". He looked NOTHING like a Santa, but he had a huge smile on his face when my kids started squealing, "SANTA! IT'S SANTA!! HE'S SANTA! HI SANTA!" So cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute~!

About the iPad kid... I remember I decided to headbutt my Gameboy after losing level 8-4 on Mario over and over again only to feel terrible about it. I told on myself right away and expressed my remorse and guilt. On my birthday a month later, I opened up an even newer and better Gameboy. I burst into tears. "Why did you get me this? I don't deserve this! I broke the other one!" They started laughing and said that's why I got a new one, because I was sorry and knew I didn't deserve one. Lol.

In 1968, my dad left my pregnant mom along with me and my sister. We had very little money. My mom was doing all she could to make Christmas happen. There was a wrapped gift with the obvious shape of an album. I told my mom that as long as it's not the Beach Boys, I am sure I would love it. Of course, it was the Beach Boys. I played the crap out of that album so she would think I became a fan. It still hurts my heart knowing how hard she was trying and how I am sure I hurt her. She never knew I hated that album.

My dad played Santa for our local community. I was adopted in May of 1980. My first Christmas, I did not appreciate being on Santa’s lap but my mom says that as I sat there listening after, I perked up and basically called him out. She shoved a cookie in my mouth and took off but pretty much after that, no issues with Santa. When I was 6, I caught them getting presents out, when I got up to get a drink of water. My dad was very upset but my mom said I had known for years (I had). I never looked at it as lying because my dad was that guy, the one who would do anything for anyone and just wanted to make his corner of the world a better place. For me, Santa is a way of explaining the Christmas spirit and how we are meant to behave for each other for kids who might not understand the more complicated, underlying sentiments. It’s less a lie and more an explanation that makes sense at the time. Side note: I had to explain to my husband at the ripe old age of 30 that “Mommy kissing Santa” wasn’t an affair song😂.

As a truly traumatized child who was told Santa didn't exist before I was ready to hear it...by my own parents, I made it a point to never do that to my own kids. We have Christmas with the decorations and fun but Santa is never something I pushed on them, it was just a fun thing that was a part of Christmas but all of the gifts came from family or their parents. Whenever my kids would ask me if Santa is real, I would just reply with, "What do you think?" And if they'd say yes, he is real! Then yay!! Santa is real!! But I just left it up to them. I just cannot even fathom placing that inevitable heartbreak upon my kids because how awful it was for me.

I 100% approve this method. I remember at one point in highschool all my friends talking about the heartbreak they experienced finding out Santa wasnt real, it was the first time i realized i didnt have such a memory. When i asked my mom about it she told me she never told me santa was real or fake, she let me make my own conclusions and my conclusion was he wasnt real. Afterwords she just taught me to keep the magic for others, so i wouldnt spoil it for kids who thought he was real. I honestly think it saved me a lot of trauma and made me appreciate the effort family put into just making their kids happy without getting any credit. Also as a kid i felt cool being in on the secret 😅

I agree with this method but my boyfriend doesn't. I don't want to do Santa because I don't want my kids facing disappointment because "Santa" chose them to be "naughty" if they can't get what they wished for. I'm only asking them if they think he's real and if they say yes, that's fine. If they say no, that's also okay but I don't want to lie to my own kids.

Last year my step-mom unilaterally decided that our son was too old (at 11!) to believe in Santa anymore. Grandparents should NEVER make that call without consulting the parents first! My kiddo still believes, but mostly in the "if I believe I might still get extra presents" kind of way :D Unfortunately this year Santa couldn't deliver the presents he most asked for--the mom with the daughter wanting an iPad is right--older kids get expensive FAST. We just couldn't pull off the PS5 or Occulus he asked for, and even if we did it would be HIS PARENTS giving him those presents, not Santa! We gave him a sword instead :P

Worked at a country club briefly and heard so many customers talking about how their children kept wrecking their cars and how expensive it was getting to repair them. when I was old enough to ask 'the question', my parents sat me down and told my the story of Nikolaus of Smyrna, and how, although the jolly fat man with flying reindeer wasn't real, he was a very real metaphor for the spirit of generosity and love. Little 7-year-old me was disappointed but not traumatized, and appreciative that my parents respected me enough to tell me the truth.

This is close to what I told my kid, but I told him that Santa is the personification of children’s belief in magic and a magical world. I’ve always thought it was an important part of childhood to believe in magic. I used to work at Disney World and my favorite part of the job was the way kids were so ready to believe in magic, and in reinforcing that magical belief for them. I’ve always hated it when family members tell their very, very young children that Santa isn’t real, or Mickey Mouse is just a cartoon, or there aren’t actually little fairies and pixies in the forest, and so. I always make an effort to convince the child(ren) that their dad/mom is just being silly and _of course_ those things are real! And _of course_ there’s real magical people and creatures. I just feel like it’s important for their imagination and hope for the world. Their lives will be filled with hard truths and facts and logic soon enough, so let them have whimsy for a little while.

This is how I DIDN'T ruin Christmas. Way back in 1987 my younger brother and I were driving down to my mom's for Christmas and started talking about music. He asked if I still liked the Beatles (I was born in 1952, so I was the typical teenager when they were at their height). I told him if I were stuck on desert island with music from only one person or group...it would be the Beatles. When I opened the present he gave me it was an anthology of...the Beatles. I can only imagine his relief when I said in the car they were my favorite. Merry Christmas from rainy LA Crescenta, California.

One year I worked Christmas Eve in a call center for a luxury brand... One person their item either was damaged or it wasn't delivered (lost in transit). We sent another and told them we couldn't guarantee that it would come before Christmas. This was maybe a few days before Christmas Eve. Well they were furious, and I don't blame them for that. I got a call on Christmas Eve from this customer and got torn a new one for the replacement being delivered on Christmas Eve. I didn't know what to say... sorry it actually got to you before Christmas??? I started keeping a tally of how many times I was told you ruined Christmas. I think it was seven times but that one where they actually got the item and it wasn't damaged and was correct that one really confused me to death and continues to do so to this day. I remember one time though I got a call from someone who had questions on how to pack their luggage for the trip they were taking. I loved that conversation. It was so wholesome. It was her first time on an airplane and she was so excited.

Having worked in retail over Christmas I can tell you from experience, people yelling at you to open up again right after close for the holiday, is one of the few joys we get. We would gather around the front and watch people come and try to get in the store after it was closed and laugh when they had a fit. One of the few times the managers wouldn’t cave to angry customers because they wanted to go home too.

After spending the last 20 years working retail, the holidays are the WORST. 😢😢😢 I’ve never understood the “joy” of Christmas. There’s never been joy for me. Just massive crowds of rude demanding people. Being overworked to where you don’t get to eat or go to the bathroom because customers “need to be helped.” I hate it and I don’t know how to get out of it.

I also worked retail for 10 years, no longer do, but as a customer, granted probably not in the same area, I would never do that to any retail worker or anyone who is doing ME a service at the end of the day. If I did not get there in time, that's on me, not the workers. Idk how anyone else can't grasp this concept.

I worked for Santa in 2019. I loved every minute of it. There were some questionable parenting choices but nothing ultimately awful. A warning to parents though: DO NOT wait until Christmas Eve to take your kids to see Santa. Our mall had posted that Santa was leaving to go back to the North Pole at 5 pm Christmas Eve. Mall closed at 6. At 530 a family all dressed up comes in getting their kids hyped to see Santa only to find us tearing down the merch and the set. The father's face dropped. He asked where Santa was. I informed him politely that Santa left to get started on giving Christmas to kids around the world. The father got angry. "IT'S 530! LIKE THIS GUY HAS ANYTHING BETTER TO DO? GET HIM BACK OUT HERE!" I froze. Our Santa was already on his way back to Alberquerque where he was from. Not to mention that I had already explained in front of his young children that he had left to start delivering presents. Read the room guy.

My first question is "Does this guy not know what time zones are?" His kids either know about them or are going to find out about them soon enough. They are going to realize that it isn't 5:30 pm everywhere and that Santa needed to leave earlier to start Christmas for those in a different time zone. This father is on a one way trip to ruining Christmas with that attitude.

True story here . My parents were very frugal so Christmas was not a big deal for me . I got stuff but it was like underwear and socks. Then when I was around 7 I opened a box and it was a leather belt . I said thanks as I was taught and my dad responded , "Yeah , its a new belt .....don't make me use it on you !" Such joy and happiness of Christmas memories.

Years ago, I worked at Barnes & Noble. The store was typically open until 11 p.m. EXCEPT on Christmas Eve, when it closed at 9 p.m. I can't even tell you how many people were upset by the fact that they had to "leave" two hours early!

For the IPAD video, my daughter is 10 and she wanted one really badly two years ago, but I couldn't afford it. So, my husband and I came up with a plan and told her if she can raise the money for half of it, we will pay for the other half. And at first, I felt so bad that she had to actually hustle to make money on her own like selling things and doing chores for people, because as her mom I want to give her what she wanted especially on holidays. But in the end, she was grateful to know the value of a dollar and was happy that she used her hard earn money to buy something she really wanted, and I know it'll go along way for her in the future when she's an adult.

I have severe anxiety over going to an establishment too close to closing. Several years ago I went to a store a few minutes before 8pm, thinking they closed at 9pm. I needed a couple specific items but was kind of wandering and browsing casually. After a few minutes the staff very politely asked me if I needed help finding anything as they are closing. I felt like such a jerk. That was 12 years ago and I still feel bad.

As a former retail worker, I can say that you are not the type of customer we worry about or get annoyed with. I feel like we can tell the difference just with attitude and body language when a person is there to deliberately make trouble vs those who are there with good intentions.

Don't feel bad. I had to tell some customers that we were about to close a couple of times. I knew they weren't aware of what time it was. I wasn't annoyed. I just informed them that we were past 9pm and if they needed anything I was happy to help them. No hard feelings, it's part of the job. I don't even remember who it was and I live in a small town, everybody knows everyone. 😀

@@margaretthym8234this! I once in a shop asked for a particular type of receipt - for a specific tax purpose - and realised this took the staff a bit of work and several minutes. It was closing time and I only realised when I was already at the till. I needed my receipt but didn't want to be a burden. I apologised and said I didn't realise it was closing time and that I appreciated them taking the time to do this. They were super nice and told me not to worry and that if all customers were like me they'd never mind doing extra hours. It made my day. I think as long as you have a good attitude and are aware of people, their time and their needs, you will be completely fine as your good intentions will show ❤

My niece once asked me how Santa gets into our house without using a chimney, (For context we live in South Africa, Christmas time is blisteringly hot and most houses don't have chimneys so he doesn't fully make sense over here) after abandoning my initial thought of telling her he comes in through the window, I just told her he doesn't need a chimney, he gets in with magic and she was satisfied with that. Can confirm that it definitely works.

when i hear about all the bullies in diffrent schools im so happy that the popular girls in my school was the sweetest kindest souls i have ever come across... if a boy said something nasty to a girl they were there in a second cursing him out.. if 2 girls were fighting they would mediate and make them friends. im friends with one of them now 20 years later and i have never heard a bad thing come out of her mouth about another person.

Starbucks baristas story reminds me about when I was working at the doughnut's place and we ran out of some kind of particular doughnuts (long time ago & can't remember). Mother was furious and amongst other things shouted: YOUR UPSETTING MY KIDS, NOW EXPLAIN THIS TO MY CHILDREN!!!!! I looked at the children and they were just looking in a blank space like they didn't even care 😂

The having them earn what they want is grade A parenting Charlotte. My Fiance's kid wanted an Xbox and was told if he save up all year for it whatever he still needed by the end of it, he'd cover the remainder. He proceeded to spend the year saving up his Birthday money, his allowance, and offered to help his Nana around the house for extra. By the end of the year he had a little over half of what he needed. My fiance paid the remainder and I bought him a headset. Was quite proud of him.

Why do kids need expensive pads? Get them the less expensive product that do the same job. People spoil their kids with the most expensive cell phones and pads then complain when the kids don’t respect their devices. My friends kid was trying to order devices, games etc. with her credit card somehow he got hold of her card. They don’t care about you they care about your money! Kids could be so cute!😇😂

Agree! That little girl is being trained to be ungrateful! When training animals you only reward them with a treat for behavior you want repeated! I worked at Starbucks on Thanksgiving in 2018. Everybody I worked with had the flu and all of the customers were complaining about baristas being sick. The manager wouldn't let anybody call off because "all hands are already on deck". Our location was next to Planned Parenthood, that same exact day there were people holding giants signs outside the store with dead fetuses on them. Then the customers were complaining about THAT. Never quit a job so fast in my life 😅

After my sister married and started alternating holidays with us and her in-laws I would volunteer for whichever holiday they would be gone. So glad not to have to deal with that anymore.

😅I did the same. I was maybe 6 or 7 when I woke up in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve because I'm a very light sleeper, n I heard what I thought was Santa putting presents under the tree. I can't tell you how heartbroken I was sitting in my doorway watching my mother doing it instead n then eating the cookies that we baked together for Santa. Though I didn't tell her I saw n pretty much acted up every holiday season just to test how far she would go with the lie until I was about 12 n had enough of the lies n manipulation then just came out n said ik Santa's fake n your the one eating cookies right in front of my younger siblings so not only did I ruin it for myself but also for them I felt so bad after. She had no idea that for nearly 5 years, I was just going along with her stories about Santa n threats of me getting coal if I was bad.

I told my daughter from a young age that Santa, as a person doesn't exist BUT the spirit of santa is what matters and Christmas was created as a way to be with family and chase away the winter blues. So we give gifts and eat great food together as the nights are long so we put up a lot of lights etc. As she got older she questioned why kids want EVERYTHING for Christmas, i told her greedy businesses advertise everything so they can get more money. Every year i ask her, what do you want for Christmas, the answer is always the same, you can get me things you know i like but i just want to be with my family. She rarely asks for anything and she saves her money up, shes amazing

I can empathize with the Starbucks lady. I ,personally, am responsible for ruining several customers Christmas’s. So I work in the lingerie/ sleepwear department at my local JCPenney and yesterday ( December 21st) multiple people were angry at me because the store didn’t have any matching family pajama sets left for their family of 6. We also sold out of all of our small, medium and large size women’s sleepwear sets. It was somehow all my fault 🤦‍♀️. First of all I don’t have anything to do with the number or type of sleepwear that is ordered for the store. I am just a lowly associate. Secondly, it’s the 21st. Shop earlier if you want matching sets or if you need to buy a gift for an “average” size woman. I also was yelled at because Macy’s didn’t have what they wanted either🤪🤣. I have today off but I’m working the next 2 days 😢. At 52, almost 53, I’m get to old for this $hit.

My baby (step) brother asked my parents why Santa depicted differently in certain movies and decorations, (race, body shape, etc), and I thought of a good lie. Needless to say Santa (to my bother at least) is now a shapeshifter 😊

As a kid who was bullied and then became a mean girl and then into a stoic. I can say that its process of being hurt, then hurting others in retaliation and then either growing out of that and understanding differences or staying bitter your whole life. I try not to bitter, but I will say my patience is super short and being bipolar had never helped.

I was recently talking about this with a few Jewish acquaintances and said something about admiring the spirit of his generosity and wanting to give gifts to children and one of them said they never thought of Santa WANTING to give all these kids their gifts they just kinda thought it was his job. 😂

@@ellencox8415 I know Christmas and all the traditions and myths that come along with it are considered ubiquitous because of the hold it has in both secular and Christian culture, but that doesn't mean everyone knows (or wants to know) about Santa Claus/Father Christmas, whether they're born in the US or not. I've had Jewish acquaintances mention that they were told Santa wasn't real when they were little, and that it was their job not to tell the other children that so as to help keep the magic alive for them, which I think is really sweet of them to do.

As someone who used to work at a Starbucks, and every holiday, (AND we had no drive through) can confirm, how busy it is, it was no uncommon to run to another store in order to buy supplies. Literally the rudest people I have ever dealt with were on the holidays. Customers would go and sit there because they didn't want to be home with their families while we were all dying to go home. I worked there from 2008-2012 so this was the time where we were open from 5am regularly. Christmas was the only day we didn't have to wait till 10pm to close, they would let us leave at nearly 6 ....I do not miss those days

When I was teaching 5th grade many years ago, I had asked the 2nd grade teacher to ask her students to write letters to Santa. I distributed the letters to my students, who wrote responses as Santa. "Santa" told some of the students that he knew how they were acting in the classroom or on the bus, and to do better. It was basically a letter- writing assignment. Some years later, i was telling my students about that experience, and one of my students said, "What?? The letter I got wasn't from Santa??".

My dad made a deal with me to pay for half of my mountain bike if i earned the money for the other half. Honestly had more fun earning the money for it and feeling responsible when i paid for it than i did riding it. Or at least i remember it more. That bike lasted me years from middleschool all the way into the beginning of college

Yes! When I was growing up, there was a $100 limit for my birthday and Christmas. Anything I wanted had to be under that limit, and my birthday and Christmas were the only times of the year where my “wants” were given. My parents provided every “need” but anything outside of that it was up to me to save up for. Most of my summers from 5th grade onward were spent with me working for neighbors to earn money via pet sitting, babysitting, house sitting, yardwork, odd jobs etc. everything I owned over $100 was something I saved, worked, and paid for with 100% of my own money, and I was so much better for it! And boy did I notice the contrast between how I cared for my possessions vs all my friends whose parents bought them anything they wanted! My belongings, especially the expensive ones, were pristine. I knew if they broke, I was the one who would have to replace it, and I knew how much hard work and effort that required. For them, it didn’t matter, because if it broke their parents just bought a replacement. While there were definitely times growing up where I was envious of friends who got whatever they desired, as an adult I am BEYOND grateful for the way I was raised, and would do the same for my own children. Just because a child asks for something expensive, that does NOT mean you have to cave to their demands. It is up to you as the parent to set reasonable expectations for your child, not the other way around. Kid wants an iPad? You take the time to explain to them why that isn’t an appropriate thing to ask for. Children do not just automatically come with an understanding of how money works. You have to TEACH that to them. And yes, sometimes that means they get upset and may feel like they are being treated unfairly compared to their friends, but they WILL be better for it in the long run, and they will be grateful for those important lessons you taught them when they become an adult.

Mom said she would only pay as much as she normally pays to get him jeans at Target or Old Navy and he had to pay the difference. My brother had a fit and called our dad (parents have been divorced since we were toddlers) and explained the situation, making sure to emphasize how unfair mom was being and how it would be social suicide to show up at school in jeans from Target. Dad said, “Son, you’d better thank your mother because I think that’s a really good idea. I would have just flat out told you no. So, I think if you want those jeans, you should go apologize to her for throwing a fit, then get the lawn mower and start knocking on doors. Grab the edger too, you might make a couple more bucks per yard.” I swear people could probably hear my brother’s frustrated scream from the other side of the country. He thought he was going to be able to play one parent against the other and it totally backfired. lol

Not Christmas related, but I used to live in Florida and worked at Walgreens. After a hurricane (like, the next day), we were open for batteries and non-perishables. We didn't even have power at the store, and were either using cash or one of those old school credit card swiping machines. Anyway, so many people were coming in for ice and milk (and bread) and were mad that we didn't have any (or any more). Like, guys, how do you expect us to keep the ice frozen or the milk cold? lol. And then, "Well, when do you think you'll get more in?" Again, it was the day after the hurricane. 😂

One of my favorite Santa stories comes from when my oldest child was in kindergarten. The kids were all going to be on a float in the local Christmas parade. The older sibling of a kid in class told everyone on the float there was no Santa. A few nearby parents froze when we heard this - my kindergartener and her younger brother were both there. A very popular dad, who overheard this, used his coach voice to shout out, "NO SANTA! Is that STILL going around?" Then proceeded to tell several dozen wide-eyed kids that his older brother fell for that when they were both younger. He continued on, letting the kids know his unbelieving brother never received another gift from Santa, while he - a true believer - got enough presents for both himself and his brother since that Christmas, AND continued to get them still!

I paid for my Super Nintendo all by myself in the early 90's with babysitting money. It was my first gaming system as my parents said no when I asked for an original Nintendo when that was out. Charlotte is right, it means so much more to a young person if they work for and buy something themselves. I took excellent care of it and it still works great to this day. Saved the original box too. I am thankful my parents didn't get me everything I asked for. They were proud I bought it myself and they ended up buying me some games for it. 😊

To the Starbucks Barista … I’m not a Starbucks fan SIMPLY because my area of town has a glut of Starbucks and I just wanted variety. THAT SAID, I have to say you - and all other Baristas out there - are a special breed. A friend of mine worked at one of the local Starbucks and on a night they were predicting a bad snow storm, three of the girls volunteered to pack in sleeping bags and stay the night in the store so they could be on hand to make coffee for the crews who would be out trying to clear the roads the next morning. I remember her saying how crazy it was, but how grateful those men and women were to have a hot drink waiting for them. And to the AH who couldn’t handle a glitch in his plans, Christmas was ruined for his kids before they even got to your store! Keep up the hard work and dedication at any job you put your heart to, because your company will be blessed to have you.

Omg Charlotte, when you said make the kid 'earn' the ipad I was so overjoyed. We did that with our daughter growing up. She was an only child so we didn't want to raise a spoiled brat. She learned the meaning of working for what you want, learned the value of the mighty dollar and by the time she grew up had saved for a house deposit and a couple of other investments. We couldn't be more proud. (and I even have 2 beautiful grandbabies now) ❤

The easy and most obvious save on the reindeer question is "no sweetheart, reindeer cannot fly. Alexa was right. But Santa's reindeer can fly. They aren't the same as the reindeer that live in places like Iceland or Alaska". If you're a parent, you gotta be at the top of your creative game constantly.

I was one of the quiet girls in HS. In our accelerated English class my junior year, we sat alphabetically and I was in the back corner and next to me was another quiet girl and we were friendly but not close friends. One day, those students who were ranked in the top 10% academically were given slips of paper with their ranking. Since I was in the back of the first row, I was one of the first to get the slip of paper. While my friend was quietly congratulating me, a popular girl a few rows over loudly stated that she didn’t think that I was that smart. My friend didn’t get one but she had a high GPA and we had 950 students in our class so was pretty competitive and she wasn’t upset. When the loud mouth girl didn’t get a ranking, she started crying and wailing that her parents would be upset, like that was supposed to change her grades. My friend and I looked at each other quietly snickering but with our heads down. Later that year my friend and I as well as other non-popular girls were chosen to hand out programs for the graduating senior commencement ceremonies. It turned out that our English teacher was in charge of that selection and purposefully selected those who had been bullied or disparaged publicly who were in her classes. I’m in my 60’s and still remember the teacher’s name, realizing that her actions spoke louder than words. Those loud mouth mean girls become obnoxious coworkers as few don’t change but those who dealt with that behavior early on become stronger and more resilient helping achieve more past HS. Even in my 50’s one group of coworkers formed a clique and obviously excluded a handful of us. When we realized what they were doing, we sat together chatting, laughing and one even creating a little ditty he sang about how we were the misfits. It was satisfying to see the anger on those who were trying to bully us and we understood that they still had the middle school and HS mentality. I was promoted in 6 months while those who had been working there up to 5 years were upset, not understanding that maturity, work ethic and knowledge is rewarded, not how popular one is.

I have four girls. Each one of them has some difficulty they deal with on a daily basis; autism, dyslexia, AdHd etc. they were bullied as well. They all did well in school and couldn’t understand (at the time) why it seemed that bad behavior was rewarded to the popular crowd. I tell them all the time that some people “peak” in middle and high school. Those days are as good as life is ever going to get for them. They don’t see the bigger picture and that after high school no one cares if you were popular before. Reminding and explaining this over and over has helped my girls to see the bad behavior from an outside perspective, and to behave much more maturely than the other kids. They can see that at the end of their time at school, there’s a great big world out there full of people who don’t care what you did in high school. We call those that peak in middle and high school “peak too Sooners”. 😂

I am so happy you shared this story. I feel a little bit of me is healed cuz of that. I was bullied so much in high school i developed a behaviour issue where i had gone completely mute when someone (except for my family and closest friend) talked to me. like i litterally froze when i had to buy a ticket or going to the grocery store, or if someone asked me something. I was in therapy for long to treat it. The teachers were obviously aware of it, because me going completely mute developed around last year of high school. whenever i had oral exams, or was just asked by the teacher i was not saying a word, and i obviously got bad grades despite being one of the best students. I was daydreaming about someone defending me, and i still have recurring dreams where someone saves me. I wish the teacher did something. And none of them ever did anything, not even after i went mute. Some of them even treated me as if i was not answering to be rude, which is wild cuz i was among the most u problematic and obedient students, and it was clear i have issues. Now as an adult i am so mad at those teacher .

I came out of public school in the 80s at 17 pretty scarred from bullying in grade school and then the nasty gossip mongering bullying from girls in HS. Boys liked me though and that just made the girls worse. College was better because it was the first time I realized that I'm actually intelligent, which gave me so much more confident! To this day though, it's a bit triggering to see grown-ass women forming a toxic girl-gang. For the last 50-ish years, I've been trying to figure out why people would prefer to be nasty over being kind and building community out in the world, and/or in the workplace. Guess that's why I like a job where I can provide support and services to those in need.

OMG I have a similar story as the Starbucks barista’. Two years ago I got hired as a shift supervisor, on October . I got one week of training and then I ran shifts by myself as the supervisor. One of my shifts we ran out of ALL the milk too and only had coconut. I also had to close down lobby and kept drive thru open . One customer who made it inside and he noticed how chaotic it was and he left a $100 tip to split. He was the nicest andI was relieved that atleast one person was kind because everyone on drive thru were mad that we only had coconut milk. They all wanted to talk to “the manager “ which was me 🥴.

At my kid friendly baby shower, my partner, his father, step mother and I were jokingly discussing who was going to dress up as Santa for our baby because both Dad and Grandpa had a bit of a belly. As I turned around to get ready for pictures his 7 year old niece was standing staring absolutely shell shocked behind us.... To the theater teacher. Sanit Nicholas was a real person at one time that lived in Germany. (He was however originally pagan. As per usual of the area and time) but he left treats in the shoes or socks (many didn't have socks) of children at their front doors. So he did exist at one point (yes he was exaggerated as many legends tend to be) and he is still famous today sooo. He still counts. Also fun fact his original coat and pants were green. Not red. That was done by the Coca-Cola company as a form of advertising in the late 1910's that stuck.

There is literally a Christmas movie called “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”. It’s a claymation from 1970. (Why has nobody seen this classic?!) It covers all of the tough kiddie questions: Why can Santa’s reindeer fly? -because they at corn given to Santa by a warlock so that they could fly What is Mrs. Claus’ name? - Jessica Why does Santa have many different names? - because he was adopted during infancy by a bunch of toy making elves The list goes on. It’s totally worth a watch, and it makes answering questions on the spot so much easier!

There's a website that lets you make video messages from Santa, you could put pictures of your kid's wishlist on it, make him say their name etc. It included a video that told your kid that Santa would scatter a magic powder on the reindeer food so they could fly. No clue if it still exists or what it was called, but that was a thing that made my childhood just a bit more magical

I was a precocious little redhead who caught onto the facts about Santa early. When a kid in my first grade class asked me if I thought Santa was real, I knew enough to know I shouldn’t just say “no,” but I didn’t want to lie to a friend either. So, on the spot, I came up with a story about how Santa was real a long time ago, but his spirit lives on and fills adults with his love and generosity every year to make all the children’s wishes come true. I thought that was a good compromise. My teachers did not. ‘‘Twas the beginning of my many lessons that truth is not a welcome concept in this world, no matter how diplomatically voiced. I’m now just shy of 60 years old and still struggling with this problem.

As a child, my stepmother and I butted heads constantly; we never ever got along and so I was “constantly misbehaving” as she would put it. One year, she and my dad decided they were actually going to put coal in my stocking. Thing was, I was absolutely old enough to know Santa wasn’t real (I was a teen) , and my dad made a point to try and shame me in front of my four little brothers who did still believe in Santa. Guess who doesn’t talk to her parents as a 32 year old adult now, after years of repeated incidents like this? Don’t be my parents. Don’t purposely attempt to traumatize your kids. Or they’ll decide once they’re old enough to choose that they choose not to be treated like shit by anyone, including you, their parents.

The most messed-up thing I've ever done to a kid's Christmas was when I worked at a..red 🎯. Black Friday (God, but that day sucks⚾⚾, especially opening!), I came in, dressed for the season; blousy, glittery red shirt, latex elf ears peeking out through my hair, little touch of body glitter on the face, and jingling bell earrings. First day of the Christmas season, I dressed like an elf...so they put me in the toy department. 🙃I hear screeching coming from the back aisle; whiny kid screeching. _"I WANT IT! I NEED IT! YOU HAVE TO GET IT FOR ME!!"_ The usual ranting. I decided that wasn't gonna fly, so I came up behind the girl (who had cornered her parents with her tantrum) and pulled out my (turned off for work) cellphone. 'Excuse me...are you being _naughty?_ Do I need to send my boss a text message about this? _Do I need to tell SANTA that you're being NAUGHTY??'_ To this kid's perception, she just got caught red-handed by an ELF, in public, who then threatened to tell Santa on her. She shut up, her eyes got huge, she put the toy straight back onto the shelf, and darted over to her mother and held her hand. As the family walked away, her father turned back and mouthed 'THANK YOU!' at me. I might have messed with that girl's head? But I hope she learned to be better from that incident. I still have no regrets about it~😂
