It really depends what you are in prison for. From what I have seen experiences in a maximum security prison are very different than a medium or low security prison.
@Just1Nora
@Just1Nora 13 күн бұрын
In the USA people SAY that prisons are for rehabilitation, but it's 100% still just punishment. No one gets better by going to prison. Jail? Short time? Some do, but many become repeat offenders and eventually lifers because all they have to do is give up a few personal liberties and boundaries, and they are fed, clothed, housed, and told what to do and when. It can be very comforting to some people to not have to manage their own life and schedule. The problem is that when you basically remove someone from the timeline, control them back to childhood levels, then dump them in a vastly different future without even getting them responsible for their own lives beforehand, much less to the changes that have occurred, then the likelihood for relapse is ridiculously high because they just aren't capable of doing those things for themselves anymore. At least not without a tremendous amount of effort. Even the number of jobs available to ex-cons is ridiculously low and they're mostly low to no skill jobs without public interaction. How is that supposed to get someone reacclimated to society? Plus, people need lots of counseling and therapy, and none of that is provided. It's a system designed for failure.

@thaurane It literally gets in the way of my canvas, I like having background noise and sometimes music isn’t what I wanna listen to. The reason it bugs me so much is because it gets in the way of my screen, I do these things on a phone and I don’t have YT premium, when it’s landscape it takes up way less space and I can comfortably draw. Vertically it just messes with me and I accidentally move the Play in picture box when I try and do a line or color in close to it.

Many people will blame the rise of social media and growing development of technology as to why there are less kids outside nowadays, and that is partially true, but there's also the fact that our culture has gotten more hostile to children existing in public and car dependency has made it more dangerous if not impossible to travel to places by foot. Highways and major roadways keep getting built while footpaths and sidewalks for pedestrians get ignored. Not to mention that the growing popularity in the subject of true crime is making the general population more and more paranoid and distrustful. A group of teens just walking somewhere on a sidewalk and laughing about something is now seen as suspicious and like they're "up to something". Just look at the embarrassing posts people make on the Nextdoor app. I've seen folks say shit like "This car drives northbound past my house at 8:45 am and southbound at 5:15 pm every weekday. Should I call the police?" And then every terminally online pansy agreed that it's suspicious until one reasonable person chimed in "Sounds like they're just going to and from work." This country falls for fear mongering way too easily, and it's already negatively affecting the younger generations.
@milkyteadrops

Yes! People complain so much about how kids don't go outside, but in my town, by the time I was 10, a majority of the things meant for kids were torn down, by the end, and now the final thing from my childhood where I could go and socialize, the bowling alley is being torn down and replaced with a grocery store. We only have parks now. This town is grossly run by the fact its a college town
@onionbubs386
@onionbubs386 18 күн бұрын
@@milkyteadrops exactly, thank you. It's sad, I work in childcare and kids really do genuinely like being outside when the weather is nice, but there's hardly anything for them to even do without spending money or getting treated like criminals. You would think a college town would be more walkable compared to other places, considering all the students traveling to different buildings, but walking or biking for transportation isn't profitable. It's really unfortunate.

I don't know I find it super sad that he was emotional over a soda machine but I also understand it isn't the soda machine,.. i do love those machines though, cherry sprite is tasty,

Bro, the guards teasing that one inmate for not knowing how to flush a toilet is kinda sad. Like yeah, it's small and probably didn't matter that much. But just think of how messed up that is from the other side. Being teased for something that someone else caused. (Not that I'm blaming the guards: they probably weren't thinking that hard about it.)

Well to the youth part i can also comment is that older people now complain about youth being outdoors, listening to music and hanging out. More public areas are fenced in and are closed after some time or on some days. Something about how they're disturbing the peace or do criminal stuff or whatever shit. I think its less the avalability of modern tech and more the simple hostility towards youth (or people ig) that has resulted in places being empty earlier. You dont want to be somewhere when you run the risk of having some geezer so old thier friends have died of old age, call the cops on you because you're disturbing thier peace by: Being in a park and just enjoying the weather.
@lightsidesoul
@lightsidesoul 18 күн бұрын
Plus the fact that nowadays, it costs money to be in public places. Stay around a shop for too long without buying anything, get fined for loitering. Going to the movies? That's at least $40-$60 nowadays, even if you're alone/everyone is paying for their own tickets and snacks. Parks have the problem you pointed out, and even just hanging around on your own front porch in a neighborhood can have some old biddy calling the cops on you. And of coarse, the parental panic that's developed over the years, making parents think if they can't see their children every .02 seconds, they'll get kidnapped or murdered.

Bro if you hear the reddit statement that stated all the BS of what youth were doing hanging around back then, pointing out all the reasons why it’s not tolerated and still question why people don’t wanna have that hanging around nowadays then… geez. Don’t be the one to stink like Sht then say that it’s because of x,y,z why people are telling you that… no it’s because you stink like Sht. As a 20YO myself, no one cares about you if you’re just sitting somewhere because you’re ‘the youth’.

So many thoughts about some of these, mostly the youth culture ones. I’m certain that some places had teens/“youth” roaming in packs after dinner, but a) my neighborhood definitely did NOT have that in the 90s; b) people are too SCARED to let a lot of young people roam around by themselves now; c) they kind of talk like it’s a bad thing that there aren’t groups of young people standing on street corners or in parks doing drugs??? And d) I DO still encounter groups of teenagers wandering around together! The parks near my apartment have basketball hoops, and they’re almost always being used. They’re out here, but I find them just as obnoxious as I did when /I/ was a teenager lol. It’s not like youth culture disappeared. There is still VERY much new slang, jokes, references, music, games, and just pop culture in general. It’s just less in your face if you’re not part of it.

I can relate to some of this. I never been in prison i was just poor and sheltered from the world. Born in 1981 i just knew a little bit of technology from my gaming consoles. I didn't get my first computer ever and exposure to the internet till about 2011. To this day i am still in awe at the stuff modern technology does. 3D printers stun me. I can remember when I was a kid seeing a toy that was marketed as a 3D pen. Same concept except you were manually laying down the filament and building the print yourself.

To what they're saying at 3:15 Nah man, coming out and being exposed suddenly to modern technology is different than growing along-side it as newer and more advanced features came out. Tech slowly improved over time and we adjusted to it slowly over time. Most of us haven't had to learn it all at once. Kids grow up with it these days with their parents taming them by handing over an ipad with games or youtube on it. Learning to use today's technology definitely would've been a challenge for my 1990s brain. Today, I only have to learn about slight changes and feature improvements here and there. It's very mild adjustment compared to a time where phones were connected to the wall and you couldn't use the internet at the same time as a call. Early text messaging, you paid for X number of texts and call minutes per month. We're talking like 25 texts a month allowed in the early days. And maybe 250 minutes talking, I don't recall exactly. As a young teenager I was more interested in texting. We didn't talk about phone memory storage back then. They just texted and called. And you could only store like 100 texts in your phone. The cool / rich kids in early highschool has the HUGE 4GB flash drives. I was able to spend about 25 bucks for a 1GB. The other day I bought a new micro SD for my phone. 22 dollars for a 256 GB thing smaller than my pinky nail. I wouldn't've believed that was possible in 10th grade. lol This is your reminder to appreciate the technology we have. We get to learn and see more of our world and the universe than most of humanity ever has. You could be flying over and island sipping a mixed drink with olives imported from another country, shopping for drones on your mini pocket computer, sitting in the air conditioning and listening to music on your wireless earbuds. Or communicating with basically anyone on the planet while you're taking a shit. Maybe that's what you're doing right now. Either way, thanks for reading!
@elephantheart9988
@elephantheart9988 18 күн бұрын
Also you always had to ask before sending someone a picture message. If their plan didn't allow them, it would automatically charge their account for it. You gotta let people know when you're almost out of texts for the month, because each one costs 25 cents after you pass the limit. Wasn't TOO long before the text plans started allowing more like 300 texts per month and 20 pictures or so, but cell phone plans didn't have unlimited anything for quite a while.

I kind of feel the whole social media thing, though I was never in prison or anything. But my dad has worked in computer security since before I was born, and so he hates smartphones and social media. I picked a lot of that up from him,0 so I never really explored the modern internet until late middle school/early highschool, and I still just don't get the appeal of modern social media. It also doesn't help that my first real social internet experience was tumblr, and that was about a year before Yahoo bought them out, and nearly everyone I followed fled the platform due to the NSFW crackdowns, so I never really experienced internet culture properly. I've found a good community on Reddit, and I watch a lot of KZfaq these days, but that's really it. Also, I agree with all the other commenters about the landscape mode thing. I don't get why anyone likes vertical mode, even when I have used smart devices, I'd just turn them sideways and do things in landscape anyways.

Get back to landscape, please. Portrait is awful, and a terrible terrible choice. Literally no one likes this

Worked with a guy that was in lock up from 1978 and let go sround 2018. EVERYTHING he said. Nothing was even close to what he remembered when he went in. He had no clue how to survive in modern world. Never seen a laptop, or a computer that wasnt an amiga,poor dude was also a bit slow as well. He was doing his best to keep clean. He said it was crazy how weed was legal and he was in jail over 20 bucks of weed. The dealer he borrowed from was going wround town telling everyone he was going to kill this guy. So mu coworker found the dealer and shot him. He told the judge "i wasnt going to go around and fear for my life everyday" dude was fresh out of nam
