@@ChespiritoChavo322that's right, i personally think that metronome is needed only when you are already an intermediate player or beyond and you're trying to get a better sense of rythm, I use metronome now that I'm an intermediate going to advanced, besides so many musicians never used metronomes and they get to share their music, it's about to being good and creative, knowing what you need to improve and what you don't.

Learning to keep in time with a metronome is my favorite exercise, you get a chance to jam a bit while getting good use from it, then you play along with a song and it feels alot more smooth.

Too accurate, I started in drumming, so metronome was a must. Learning guitar alongside that journey and later getting heavily into it,along with usingthe metronome already, is what I attribute to my progression. In fact in marching band wed have parts where wed have a met running and the director would cut it. Then start it at a slower or faster so many measures later and we were supposed to slow down perfectly to it. Taught me amazing tempo control for different signatures as well. Good times.

Some truth here and some myths if I can claim so, and with offerings of food for thought. Before though, great video and inspired me to contribute a reaction here for discourse. I found metronome practice led me to lose human instinct feel when playing with ensembles. To counter this robotic habit for time keeping I had practiced into being was to leave metronome work for quite a while. My groove and timing is way much improved. The point is like to make then here: metronome work should be done by all musicians but as a tool to developed rhythmic accuracy and universal pulse confidence. as a drummer it hurts me when I have to be the bands token time keeper because im the onky one who can. When every band member can keep good time a new opportunity arises however. Arrangement possibilities. A new feel can be achieved with members playing their phrases ahead or behind the strict pulse thus creating a new rhythmic sensation for the listener of the piece. When I left metronome work for a while I found myself listening to the timing of others and finding where I beat fit between their feels as to help glue the whole bands live performance together organically. I no longer superimposed a practiced perfect time and demanded the band fall in line with that. My pocket is more flexible and more considerate in live settings. now my metronome use isn't for time practice, it's for specific and strictly technical practice work to develop control based skill sets. I separate strict disciplinary based practice sessions from real live music performance settings. A footballer trains many drills but only uses what the live situation requires. The metronome is for the training but the real skill of ensemble playing is through ensemble playing. I'm yammering but I'm suggesting that a band who never played together before but who had years of metronome playing isnt garuanteed to sound great together over a band that had no metronome practice ever but whom had a month of rehearsing together

I will say I never practiced with a metronome, and I definitely see why it helps now. Although you may have a good sense of rhythm while playing with a song or band or, in my case, even by myself with an acoustic. At the very least, it will help you track your improvement when you practice scales or playing faster.

Then after metronome practice I could go further like 300etc

I used a metronome religously and rhat was a time when I made major progress. WARNING!! This may only apply only to me but I actually took a Boss BR (100?) anyahere I played and I got dependant on it Recent I laid off the cigarettes and starting metronoming ( must be a word lol) again. Well holy smack I suck at it. That's by playing at a tempo your uncomfortable with. Im working on SEXtuplets (not triplets now) and allot of things are as hard at a low tempo as a faster one .Bieng a pre- You Tube. guitar player was tough . The Boss drum machine really helps you learn allot about music and timing and is worth every penny.

This is where I have problems, let’s see if anyone can help. I learn a lick, let’s say from one of my favorite songs, I get down the notes, the fingering, the rhythm, and then I try practicing that lick to a metronome. Then I fail or lose time all together, then I realize most musicians don’t write licks in straight quarter notes, eighth, or sixteenth notes. Most licks, and riffs are written with syncopation, rests, etc. So what do I do? I can write a straight 8th or 1/4 note lick and play it to a metronome but it is very boring. So how do I improve? And yes I am like this guy, but I have tried not be this guy!

Yes its called polyrhythm I think. Hard to explain. Even harder to do. Try counting to three in one hand in a round and counting to four at the same time on the other. There are drummers who do it. When I listen to music, I keep, tapping along to the rythm and, its especially piano songs, that have this problem, every time theres a "drop", or like a chorus, or whatever, its MILLISECONDS off and it is so unsatisfying. I get it, pianists do this to build tension or whatever, but its not working. Its NOT WORKING. It just makes me MAD AS FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. Thats why I often have to just stop listening to piano songs, even if the melody is beautiful, because they didnt use a metronome.
