The People's Court

Күн бұрын

The plaintiff says she hired the defendant to train her two dogs, but when she got them back, they had burn marks from being zapped, gashes, and other injuries. They were also untrained, dehydrated, and had worms. She filed a police report for animal abuse, and is suing for her training money back. The defendant says the plaintiff is a scammer who sent his dogs to him because they fought, which is why they had cuts.

Dogs do not have episodic memory, only associative memory, and their short term memory is about a minute. He is kind of right there except they do have separation anxiety. They don't just live in the moment. But it is because of how they associate people to actions. The dog will be excited to see you because he associates you with happiness, and will be anxious because not having you there is strange and wrong to him. That doesn't make him a good trainer. The shock collar is supposed to be a very temporary tool. Once the dog knows to listen to you and has associated a command with an action, the shock collar is not needed. If he is still using the shock collar after 4 weeks, he doesn't know what he is doing.

He only left if he heard the door (thinking it might be her coming back) or if he heard my mother talking in a different room (she sounds just like my aunt, so if he didn't see it was my mom he thought it was my aunt). Right. They’re “fighting” with each other because they have so much pent up energy. We have two Aussiedoodles and if someone didn’t know better, they would think they were killing each other when they tussle. But they are playing. Watch for the play bow before they jump on each other. You should be able to differentiate between dogs play fighting and dogs really fighting.

I avoided adopting a very cute dog because the lady at the agency said the breed needed a lot of exercise. Not just fetch, but engaging activities. That’s too much for me, and I just want the dog to find a fitting home. I like playing with a dog but I’m more basic than that. Sorry Susie Q 🤷‍♂️ People need to think about the animals more. Cats act out a lot because lack of play. People think cats are self sufficient and don’t need anything but that’s not true. If they’re knocking shit off everything then often times they just need to be tired out with some play. But people just get cats to have cats. It’s why I’d also never have a cat. I’d feel obligated to build my house around it so they can run up pathways on walls and all that to be happy. Instead of just walking on the floor and jumping up on some furniture. I forget what what my point was lol. I guess that people just need to stop buying or adopting based on visual aesthetic alone.

Cat stayed home, my neighbor would come 2-3x a day to feed/take care of her which she's done before, no prob. Now my cat is an indoor/outdoor cat so most of the time, she was outside. However, when indoor, our cat peed on the couch in several spots which she's never done before. My neighbor clearly said our cat missed us and did not like being left for such a long time. Dogs are known to die months after the death of their owners .. all animals get separation anxiety. A cow we had got super depressed when the farmer left and she refused to eat. Animals have feelings and they develop bonds .. just because you haven’t witnessed it .. doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist
@MusicTennis

I agree he's terrible but is correct that dogs only live in the present. Any animal behavioralist with a PhD will tell you that. For 5000 years dogs are pack animals and no member EVER left the pack. Today dogs can bark all day in protest of this unnatural separation. The dog jumps on the owner when they return home from work. Pack is reunited. If it's a dog learn from Cesar Millan. If it's a cat problem watch Jackson Galaxy My Cat From Hell.
@MusicTennis
@MusicTennis 8 ай бұрын
True but here's the solution. When a dog owner dies it's a huge loss for the dog and people feel bad. They see the dog bummed out and stupidly pet it which intensifies the "depression" by association. They are conditioning the dog to remain bummed out. Whoever the dog goes to must quickly put it on a consistent diet of daily walk, discipline and socialize the dog with other stable friendly dogs who will immediately dominate the new pack member. Dogs rehabilitate other dogs who are unstable much faster than humans.@@ABirdOnTheMoon

and dogs do have separation anxiety. If you raise a dog from a puppy, spend every day with it, and after 15 years one day you die or are just GONE, they don't feel any separation anxiety? That guy doesn't know anything about dogs and clearly "Trains" them cuz he wants to control and make them obey him, not cuz he truly loves animals and wants them to be happy and well adjusted.

I know this to be true. As surprizing as was to me at the time, I've seen my own dogs morn, with the loss of another dog within the family. Even animals have feelings. And with how my dog acts around me, and me around her, we have a special bond that can't be broken. And my dog acts sad when she knows I'm upset with her, or angered by something else. They're much more sensitive than we understand.

My grandparents got their family puppy when she was 8 weeks old. Yearsss passed and the previous owner happen to pay my grandparents a visit (now I'm talking like 7-8yrs) and she went absolutely insane over him. She hadn't seen him since he dropped her off. But the love she had for him, even after years of no interaction with him, never went away. Might I add she was a very unfriendly Chihuahua. She only loved my grandparents, tolerated my mother, myself, and my siblings, and barked and nipped at anyone else in the world. But the moment she saw him coming... She squealed and yelped with excitement and her tail was wagging a million miles per second. It was amazing for us to see. And in the years following up till her passing (17yrs old) that was always her reaction towards him despite length of time away. Yes, dogs live in the moment...but they also hold deep fond memories.

Most animals get giardia from dirty water which meant he wasn't taking care of them well enough, or wasn't changing their water enough. Giardia makes the mammal extremely thirsty so the fact that the dog was that thirsty when it walked in the door and was having diarrhea meant it had been in the dogs system for at least 3 weeks and had gotten to a bad stage. My kitten had giardia because the PetSmart we adopted her from was not taking care of their animals or cleaning their cages. She's happy and healthy now.

When i moved back to the state my old neighbor told me they watched him as long as they could but that he was really depressed and would look for me. They said he sat but my toy wagon every day for years and when he got old he went under the freeway and passed away there. I was 25 years old when they told me that. Still makes me cry. In all fairness, when used CORRECTLY and with knowledge they can be very effective training tools. When used correctly, they are set to such a low setting that there is zero pain, it feels more like a tap to get the dog’s attention and to redirect when they get fixated on something. When used correctly, it does not stress the dog at all

My sister has two dogs, and they do have separation anxiety when she is gone, as well as three dogs I care for when their owner is on vacation. This guy is not a real dog trainer, but a straight up abuser of poor, defenseless animals!! I remember working with a guy years ago, who was just like this guy, and he used shock collars as well as choke collars and he would hurt the dogs, and he said that that was the only way to train them! The guy got sued later and he met his doom.

I would think that an animal that lives in the moment would be MORE likely to have separation anxiety because they have no idea when their beloved owner will return. Separation anxiety has been identified BY PROFESSIONALS in animals that have been abandoned. It makes sense too - if they were abandoned once coupled with no sense of time to judge when their new owner will return that would make anyone be terrified that they will be abandoned again

The defendant comes across as very rigid and uncaring. I don't think someone who believes that separation anxiety does not exist should be training dogs. He will not have the right level of empathy. He was mostly relying on the shock collars. How do you train a dog against separation anxiety? Don't they get separation anxiety being sent away for a month from the owner? I cannot work out if all of her complaints are valid. Did she give him enough chance to demonstrate the training? Doesn't the training need to involve her as well. I don't think you just send the dogs off to be programmed. You train the owner in conjunction with the dogs.
