The People's Court

Жыл бұрын

The plaintiff says she rented a basement apartment from the defendant, but the woman threw her out so her daughter could move in. She alleges the defendant tossed all her belongings outside on a snowy day, and she’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff owes her rent, brought in cockroaches, and refused to leave after a court-ordered eviction. She’s countersuing for rent and exterminator costs.

The laws for eviction exist for a reason. The fact that the landlord took matters into her own hands is a net harm for civilized society. Another less scrupulous landlord could evict anyone regardless of I they paid rent if the landlord, in this case, was not adequately sanctioned by the courts.

@Mike_Jones281
@Mike_Jones281 Жыл бұрын
@Amanda Of course, civilized people pay rent. I was not implying that civilized people don't pay rent. However, if we allow landlords to kick people out without a court order or some form of due process, that would incentives a system where a landlord could charge someone rent and then kick them out regardless of if the tenant paid rent or tenant doing outrageous things to stay where they are not legally entitled to stay in. For example, a landlord could jack up the rates on the property and kick you out if you don't pay the increased rent, which happens a lot, especially in areas where gentrification occurs. Another example would be a tenant ignoring a court order to vacate and the landlord trying to evict the squatter on their own, thus leading to domestic disturbance or some form of law enforcement intervention. These laws in the books simply exist to prevent the situation from escalating to a point where lives and property are at risk or to prevent a party to the contract from disrupting the economics of a fragile system.

Anyone else catch her face at 9:20 when she realizes she lost and has no answer. Makes you wonder how many times she's pulled this scam to get free rent. And did I catch that correctly, it was a furnished apartment? Would explain her scam and makes it easy to move in and out when the marshall's come and throw her out.

If I had to rent and someone said they needed their property back, even if inconvenient, I would never wait until a court date and the last ordered date to leave. It makes no sense. My friend tried to be a landlord and it was terrible, so much damage to the property they could not afford to rehab it and had to foreclose.

it happens more than you think. It's common actually. I was ordered to leave my house no later than March 1st. and on March 1st we finally finished cleaning the house out and left at 10pm that night. It was 17 years of stuff that filled a 1600+ sq foot home, it sometimes takes time to find storage, and most of the stuff got thrown out and the rest stuffed into my sedan. I bought that house in 2004 and was made to leave, the new owners waited for me, it was only theirs when I walked over that threshold, and only then.

So the Plaintiff is a THIEF. She knows how to work the system. Put the deadbeat in jail where she gets free rent, 3 hot meals, shower and a place to sleep. She’s a professional crook

If plaintiff knew she had to move back in mid February then the judge told her to be out by April 1st. She had plenty of time to get out. Sorry not sorry

She literally admitted to KNOWING how to “work the system” && F$cked Around & Found Out. Pretty sure this isn’t her 1st time “working the system”. It sucks to be thrown out w/ur kids & ur stuff but she had a deal/judgement & she should have left when she was suppose to.

The fault I find for the defendant, as with anybody, is using Craig's List...😂 Nothing good comes out of Craig's List. Other than that, 👍 TO THE DEFENDANT!!

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the defendant! Don't mess with Auntie! It's tenants like these, that will never see me EVER rent a room to anyone, even if I were to meet hard times. I'd rather give the flat over to a housing association and live with family members until I get back on my feet again. Good for the defendant! :)

Doesnt look like she had any intentions of leaving on the 1st. She admitted she knew the system and knew that it would take more time to physically get her out of the house. She also stated she came back on the 2nd to get ready for work, another indication that she wasnt leaving.
