The plaintiff says she rented what she thought was an air-conditioned oceanfront room in the defendant’s house, but the defendant instead put her in a hot, dirty, rat-infested room, so she left. She’s suing for the money she paid. The defendant says the plaintiff arrived early, so she gave her a different room. The plaintiff left, so she doesn’t owe anything.

I loved that ventriloquist show--she's very good. Regarding the case, if I were the Judge, Plaintiff would have gotten her $500 plus an additional amount for misrepresenting the room--maybe an additional $100. If anything was stolen, that needs to be taken up with the thieves. Defendant likely had things stolen herself by them.

Defendant really needs to call a pest control company to eliminate entry points from outside into her house. Traps will not help when rats can just continue coming in. Also, she should've owed plaintiff for all her travel costs and stolen items as well. For defendant not to let plaintiff know in advance what was going on is inexcusable.

I don't always agree with JM judgement and this is one of them. I'm glad plaintiff got her $500 but she should have gotten additional money for living in such scary place of rats and stolen food. That food cost her money. Even an additional $200 would be something. The landlady had squatters in her home without warning to the plaintiff that they were going to steal her food. Also there is unsaid premise that person is not renting place that has rats! It should be rat free regardless. Both of these things are something that no one should have to worry about at all. If they are allowed to steal food then what else are they going to do?

rats can get through a hole the size of a quarter.....dunno if it works for rats, but nice are put off by steel wool.....plug your holes with steel wool and it will keep the mice out.
