It wasn't cut because it would be no good, it was cut because the whole character was cut in response to the voice actor having health problems. Which is really sad...

It was, I'm sure they didn't want to be a burden on him during his final days than they needed to in simply removing him from the film.

It's not that disney did not think that it wasn't good enough, It's because the person that sung this died and they had to change the story, The last movie we get to hear his voice is "The jungle book" as king louis.

They have a soundtrack called “The Lost Chords: The Rescuers” on Itunes which features this song and other deleted songs too.

Everyone referring to this guy as the voice actor - his name was Louis Prima, he sang I wanna be like you from the jungle book and voiced King Louie, he's also known for his jazz song "When you're smiling"

Light-hearted? Come again? Those lyrics are as cynical as you can get. It's outright saying that people are more animal than the animals in the zoo! They didn't even try to make it subtle. It's lyrical dissonance at it's very finest. Not to say that it's a bad song though. If anything, I argue it fits with the sad and dark tone very well. I can't say that I agree with what it says, but that's beside the point.

This feels more like the Jungle Book or Robin Hood than the Rescuers. Not that that’s a bad thing. I have several conflicting feelings about this song, regardless of how catchy it is. On one hand, it has the "Humans are Bad" message that suits Madam Medusa, but on the other hand, it distracts from the main story. Within the movie's universe, the animals (minus Brutus and Nero) wear clothes and generally act like humans. But seeing the zoo animals playing a jazz song (e.g. an elephant playing a drum, a monkey playing a tuba, etc) looks kind of ridiculous. It feels like a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. The real reason the song was removed was because of Prima's health. But, in some ways, Prima's presence in this draft feels shoehorned. At the end of the day, the story was about Bernard and Bianca finding a young girl and helping her escape a cruel woman. Prima would have distracted from it IMO.

Once he had the health issues and was no longer able to finish his parts, they actually rewrote the plot of the whole movie since they completely scrapped his part. They wanted no one else to voice it. So the story would have been fairly different had the part still been in it

I mean to be fair the movie was extremely different when he was still in the movie. Prima's health issues and coma caused them to scrap the initial concept; so the entire movie would've been very VERY different.

Heh, yeah, Disney's "Robin Hood" also felt kind of Hanna-Barbera -ish, so much I made a KZfaq Poop about it! ("Disney Buys Out Hanna-Barbera") But the finished "The Rescuers" did have at least a few minor H-B -esque moments, like Luke running like Paw Rugg or Droopalong Coyote as he and the other swamp animals charge to Medusa's boat.

You want to talk about difference in plot. The villain was not going to be Madam Medusa, it was originally going to be Cruella deVille. Not even kidding, the villain from 101 Dalmatians. She dressed in crocodile skin this time and wanted to make a fur coat out of a polar bear from the zoo.

Nobody ever said that the song was no good; it simply didn't fit with the final script for the film. Many other songs were cut from this and many other films. Another presumably good song, written by the new song-writing duo, was also cut, called "Just Might Be Tomorrow," replaced with "Someone's Waiting for You." I for one I'm glad Disney steered away from another The Jungle Book/Robin Hood type film into something with more substance and depth.

TaranWanderer2 actually it was cut because Louis Prima found.out that he had a brain tumor. Disney didn't want to be burden.on him so the entire.character was deleted

Alex Le Quesne Actually Louis Prima died in 1978, one year after "The Rescuers" release date. However, Joe Flynn (Mr Snoops) died in 1974 after his voicework was completed. The film underwent a rewrite to the plot of "The Rescuers" that many are familiar of; I read that the bear Louie was supposed to be included in the scene where Bernard and Bianca look for Penny at the zoo.

TaranWanderer2 I remember around the time of "The Rescuers" Blu-Ray release (2012), some demo recordings of deleted songs initally written for the film have been uploaded on KZfaq for a while only for them to be, well, deleted. And some of those deleted songs weren't even released on the "The Lost Tracks" EP of The Rescuers that was released on iTunes. Also, I think there was another song called "The Need to Be Loved", which was replaced by "Someone's Waiting for You". "...To Be Loved" was to have lyrics by Paul Francis Webster (songwriter for the Spiderman song)

The voice actor had a brain tumor and went into a coma. three years later he died. they canceled the whole character and changed the storyline of the rescuers because they couldn't find anyone as good as him.

i think people are misunderstanding stuff about this song. This character was supposed to be acted out by the man who sang this song. all the songs for this character were previously recorded, however, the man had a tumor discovered in his brain and went into a coma and died, i believe three years later. they couldn't find anyone who could equal or be better to voice this character, so they cut the character out completely, including the songs. they rewrote the story after cutting out that character. this character though is apart of the original story.

That's because it was the same person, Louis prima, He had a tumor in the brain, fell into a coma and died three years after, not being able to find someone as great as him, they cut the song and the character that sang it from the movie entirely.

Sorry, but this sequence would work better in a The Jungle Book or Aristocats but it is tonally out of place in The Rescuers. I am glad it got cut out despite the sad reasons.
